State of 2022 Recruiting

Would Smoke even be considered a top 10 SEC back if he was the starter in 22?
Poor man's Boom IMO.
Hope to see Wright get some carries this Sat.
Definitely see an opportunity for a transfer to come in and start next year.
I think smoke is plenty talented enough. I just have doubts if he can stay healthy as an every down back .

Personally to me....Smoke is not a top SEC back. I'd hardly consider him a worthy starting RB in SEC at this point. He has to stay on the field to start. Secondly, he just doesn't break a ton of tackles to be an every down back at top tier SEC back.

I'd consider Lavell Wright as more of a bigtime SEC RB vs. Smoke if I had to guess for 2022.

And here I thought this was a recruiting thread. But I was wrong. It's a current RB thread. Oh well. Maybe the OP can change the thread title.

Its a recruiting topic.
Do we have a sure fire starter already on the roster or will the staff try to upgrade through the portal?
CMS obviously wasn't satisfied with what was already on the roster at QB coming into this season.

Back to recruiting, TOS has recently listed a new Dline recruit from California. Name escapes me. About 6'5 280. Apparently, he is pretty under the radar. Not ranked and has few/no comparable offers to a UK offer. However, his tape is very impressive. Looks like he plays with a mean streak, and he is clearly a large human being. I know my recruiting posts con't to focus on defensive recruiting, but I do wonder how UK plans to replace 9-10 starters--so I have been tracking the recruiting on that side of the ball. Anyone know anything about this kid? Ill try and edit when i find his name.

EDIT- Ruben Adams, Salesian HS, LA, Calif. Tape is pretty impressive. UCLA and Fresno appear to be the competition. I like this kid's film. Appears to have a mean streak.

Barion Brown, WR, Nashville, TN (Gonna have to fight off Alabama for his services, maybe we can sell early PT)
Brandon White WR, Cincy, OH (delayed his commitment date, Per Rock, may not be a take to UWV or UK at this time, staff is watching)
Tyrese Fearbry, EDGE, Pittsburgh, PA (visiting IU, have no idea on this recruitment)
Joshua Joseph, LB, Kennesaw, GA (Two CB-6's for Michigan)
Deone Walker, DL, Detroit, MI

Dijons Jennings, QB, Reynoldsburg, OH

Elijah Reed DB, Louisville, KY
Osiris Ross, ATH, Ramseur, NC
Justin Jenkins, DT, irvington, NJ
Mikeece Jones, CB, Nashville, TN
Grayson Morgan, OL, Nashville, TN (Decision coming soon) (visiting today)

So does Wagner brother on UK staff pretty much lock him as our 4th OL recruit? PRetty awesome group IMO
I read an article where they interviewed him after a game. May have been a ND reporter but he was saying he had talked to their coach the night before and text or talks to them every day. So probably not a lock.

Tyreese Fearbry, edge, Pittsburgh PA, becomes our 14th commitment for the 2022 recruiting HUGE GET

2022 UK Commitments

Decarlos Nicholson, CB, Mississippi Gulf Coast, Petal, MS
Tomiwa Durojayie ,DE,Middletown, DE
Alex Afari, ATH West Chester, OH
Grant Bingham, OL, Paintsville, KY
Kiyaunte Goodwin, OL, Charlestown, IN
Josh Kattus, TE, Cincinnati, OH
Treyveon Longmire, DB/WR Corbin, KY
Jackson Smith, K, Danville, KY
Andre Stewart, DB, Snellville, GA
Destin Wade, QB, Spring Hill, TN
Keaten Wade, LB, Spring Hill, TN
Nikolas Hall, OT, Austin, TX
Jordan Anthony, ATH/WR, Tylertown, MS

As CH has linked above (thanks!), Pittsburgh area edge LB Tyreese Fearbry committed to UK earlier today. Fearbry was formerly committed to PA St but decommitted from the Nittany Lions on July 29. Fearbry fits in Stoops' 3-4 defense as a Jack LB and has a similar physical build to Josh Allen in his college years. Other than in terms of body type, I am not comparing Fearbry to Allen (a first team AA).

At this point, Fearbry's commitment comes as a surprise to me. UK had a lot of juice with Fearbry in August, but his recent behavior has been trending in the direction of Pitt or IU. So getting Fearbry's commitment is a nice surprise that takes a lot of the sting out of UK's flat performance against Chattanooga earlier today.

Fearbry holds 5 SEC offers. Paired with Keaton Wade, Fearbry gives our recruiting class two potentially elite edge rushers. It has become obvious that elite edge rushers are a missing piece in our football program. Thankfully, that is getting addressed now.

In addition, I think this probably spells the end of UK's recruitment of Joshua Josephs who appears to be trending toward MI anyway. I would rather have Fearbry.

UK's current 2022 recruiting class-

Alex Afari, DB, West Chester, OH
Jordan Anthony, slotR, Tylertown, MS
Grant Bingham, OL, Paintsville, KY
Tomiwa Durojaiye, DL, Middletown, DE
Tyreese Fearbry, LB, Pittsburgh, PA
Kiyaunte Goodwin, OL, Charlestown, IN
Nikolas Hall, OL, Austin, TX
Josh Kattus, TE, Cincinnati, OH
Treyveon Longmire, ATH, Corbin, KY
DeCarlos Nicholson, DB, Perkinston, MS
Jackson Smith, K, Danville, KY
Andre Stewart, DB, Kennesaw, GA
Destin Wade, ATH, Spring Hill, TN
Keaton Wade, LB, Spring Hill, TN

In other UK recruiting news, Jordan Anthony is sidelined from football activities for at least a month after fracturing a vertebra in his back. Although I don't think this is as bad as it sounds, it will take some time to heal.

I have my watchful and hopeful eye on OL Aamil Wagner from Dayton, OL Grayson Morgan from Nashville, and WR Dane Key from Frederick Douglass hs in Lexington. Any of these three could commit to UK at anytime, although there are certainly no guarantees. WR Barion Brown from Nashville would be the jackpot grand slam commitment to watch out for, but I think we should assume Alabama will be hard to beat out for Brown.

It will be interesting to see how UK's recruiting board evolves during the football season. As things stand, UK's coaching staff has overcome the loss of Steve Clinkscale and has put in place the foundation of a very nice class. Clinkscale's replacement Chris Collins already has his first verbal commitment (DeCarlos Nicholson). So far, this has been a productive recruiting year for Brad White (Fearbry's and Durojaiye's primary recruiter). Coach Marrow, as usual, is having another decisive recruiting year.

Let's assume UK get Dane Key and Amil Wagner now with is brother on staff.

1. UK had to address the edge pass rush woes and 2 four star guys in Wade and Fearby are just where we needed it the most.
2. UK is losing tons of Oline....Goodwin and Wagner are 2 four star guys (how Goodwin isn't 5 star is head scratcher to me). Then Bingham is a prototypical road grater guard prospect I love. And Hall to round it out
3. UK had to replace some DBs as we are losing a ton. Andre Stewart looks dang good to me, Nicholson is top rated JUCO DB and Alex Afari is a four star safety.
4. We need more WR talent IMO as you can see Ali and Wandale do it all for UK and will be gone next year IMO....if we get Dane Key....that is huge in this offensive system.

Given Stoops has stated we're going to always leave a few spots for transfers in today's world.....another damn good class to build off of. About the only thing as a miss so far is DLine recruits look like an issue is all I can say we didn't get the job done on that unit.

Still say we have to find our starting RB for 22 in the portal.
Another underwhelming performance from Smoke yesterday.
Not confident Jutahn will be back.
Snag the best transfer you can and let him and Wright battle it out.

From reading the tea leaves it seems Morgan really wanted to go to Vandy, so he has been giving them time to see if they can put anything reasonable on the field (not unlike Key wanting to see us prove we can pass before committing). It's clear Vandy is beyond terrible, which as time passes, makes it more likely he will come to UK.

Not so sure about that. There are connections with his high school and the VU staff. I wouldn’t bet against Vandy right now.

Late October. Believe the 28th or so. He visits South Carolina unofficially this weekend.
I'm a little surprised SC would bring in Key for our game if it is between the 2 schools. Sure, you're able to show off a Sat night crowd, but you're giving the other team (us) a free road demo.

I'm guessing (without taking time to research) that SC does not have many winnable Sat night games left on their schedule. (The trip may have been scheduled before it was announced as a night game.) Plus, Beamer views it as a winnable game -vs- the instate recruiting opponent.

Are recruits on the field before the game (warmups, etc...)? It will be interesting to know if there's any conversation with Marrow, UK players, etc...

He may not have to leave spots for transfers now that the NCAA has ruled teams have have 32 man recruiting classes due to the transfer.

We best hope he sees a UK win........lose against USCe and he may be theirs, seems he has a connection with their DC as the DC coached his brother at WKU
Saturday SHOULD be a win on the road, against the team hosting him, but then again its football, anything can happen. That's why they play the games, and don't just award wins and losses based on evaluations.

If I understand the rule, incoming transfers still count against the 25 limit. The extra spots are a 1-1 exchange based on outgoing transfers, but not to exceed 7 additional players regardless of number of players who leave early.

This was discussed in a separate thread a few weeks ago. I'm guessing coaches will leave open 3-5 slots in December signing class for transfers. Most stable programs still have a few players to transfer out each year and the additional incoming transfers will be based on what happens in the spring. (Crazy times for recruiting because coaches want to get their classes signed in that Dec signing period, but several players transfer after this date.)

I certainly wouldn't bet against Vandy, because it seems that's his first choice, but they are increasingly making it harder for him to commit.

I haven't really read into the fine details of the rule, I just remember seeing it as a headline on Finebaum while I was home with Covid.

UK does this with recruits as well. When you feel you have to overcome a geographic/legacy connection, inviting the recruit to see you play your competition could be a well-received gesture, especially if, as a new coach, you pull off the upset.
