During covid someone created an entirely fake pediatrician that had a huge verified social media following and made the virtual rounds talking about how dangerous covid was for kids and why lockdowns and school closures were great. Iirc she even had a recurring piece in the nyt.
After a reporter did some digging to run a puff piece, she kept getting the run around. Then tried locating her contact info on state medicine boards. Wasnt there. Upon further digging she wasnt anywhere. Her office address was actually a massage parlor.
When it got out the story was about to hit the accounts closed down and everyone acted like it never happened. Id love to get some investigation on who set that up and was complicit. Social media was at least complicit because they verified a profile of someone that never existed.
