God only knows what is going into this bill. It may end up being a Nancy Pelosi Special where you have to "pass" the bill to see what is in it.

The way it is written at the present one could get more money not working than if they work. The unemployment benefit pays someone $24 an hour. So how can an employer keep or call back an employee who has made $15 an hour who if they stay on the couch can get $24.

Our congress sucks

$25M across 438 members is more than $57K per member. Of course, that would be if the $25M were annual. If it is spread throughout a congressional term, that would be closer to the $25K per member mentioned above. In any case, that's a much larger percentage raise than just about anyone in this country will ever get without also getting a significant promotion.

I did notice that the language used in one of the tweets was "salaries and expenses." So, you know those leeches are going to spin it as work-related expenses rather than personal income. Incredible, if true.

Honestly I've accepted that there's gonna be another civil war in my lifetime so I don't even care

I don't think so. If your right it will be between 10% of the population because the other 90% will be the ones who won't even speak out against this farce. Just happy to get a check. More important than choosing what is right. The right choice is not always the easy choice.

Lol I literally bought survival food in October of 2016 because I thought someone might completely flip out based on election results. It's been 4 years and I just see apathy or childish screeching. Nobody is motivated enough for a civil war and this is an election year. How do you think a civil war would play out?

Just bad optics. We heard all yesterday that the Dems halted the bill because they cared about paying people, not corporations. Tons of social media posting and slobbering all over the left. It was the mean old republicans who weren't going to give the people money (instead give it to businesses, which keep people employed).

.. and then today, the Dems try and hand themselves a $50k pay raise.. So much for helping the people. At least the Republicans are giving money to businesses because of what they believe in and what they believe will work. This is far worse.

Just a bad bad look.

California will secede from the union one day

Just saw that an entire nursing home in New Jersey is infected - all 94 residents. They might as well soak it in gas and light a match.

Between that and the nursing home in Washington, you have a large chunk of the deaths. It's still sad. But a much different perspective.

Oh well Italy and Spain death tolls still soaring I'm sure

Is that in the Senate version? I have what I believe is the copy and I did a search and could not find it in there. Not saying it is not but it just seems odd to me the Senate would put a pay raise for the House in its document. I work with financial institutions and there is some wording regarding the new bullshit loan loss standard in there so I have been trying to follow vary closely.

House version. Haven’t seen Senate.

KRJ--I owe you an apology for smarting off the other day. Been a hectic few days but no excuse. Sorry about the stupid reply.

I’ve had my fair share of foot in mouth moments on here too fishers. No worries. Agreed on the hectic part. Hardest week plus I’ve had at work in awhile.

Dems getting 30M for the Kennedy Center of Performing Arts is confirmed as true. I'm glad this is coming out. They are basically admitting that Trump wins again in 2020 so they are just "trying to get theirs."

When we are dealing with a 2 trillion dollar package, 30 million is like pennies to normal people like us. At first glance, the optics don't look too great but when you put things into perspective it's not that much.

The raises, on the other hand, is definitely not a good look.

This is mostly NYC
First it was China's problem. Then it was Italy's problem. Now it's New York's problem. When does it become everyone's problem?

It's pretty clear to me that there's almost no chance this kills more than 2,000 people. Hell it may not even kill 1500
Okay, I think I've figured you out now. You're trolling everybody because there's no way you really believe that.

Well done, sir!

I don't see it your way. I see it as Democrats using a Pandemic to get things they want that have absolutely ZERO to do with the Pandemic, which is a disgrace.

i mean look whatever it is it is but I'm ready to start living my life again. Flu kills about 45k a year so it's a damn drop in the bucket and it's mostly political if not all political. Why do you think the rats included their entire Christmas list in the so called stimulus bill

honestly this hard lesson that socialism and open borders kills was badly needed. If that sounds harsh well tough. Too many people have their head up their ass

Random thought—i was just wondering if the whorehouses in nevada are being considered “essential businesses?”

However much it is, it isn't sensational enough. That's why italy and Spain stay in the news

The thing is, the United States is about 2-4 weeks behind where Italy is currently. I'm afraid the next few weeks will show what we're up against in this country.

The argument about the flu killing X amount of people is a strawman argument man. The thing is, we likely won't have a vaccine for this for another year or so, and that means tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of people will lose their lives from this virus. Whenever people use this flu argument, they might as well be saying, "Only Y people died from the Covid-19, so it's not a big deal" when in reality, those are people that had families, friends, and livelihoods.

Yes, tens of thousands of people in the states die each year of the flu, and hundreds of thousands die globally; however, the deaths from Covid-19 will be in addition to that number. Stop using that argument because it means you don't care about human life.

Also, with regards to the socialism boogeyman, that is also a misleading argument. This nation functions on many socialist ideals and programs that most could not live without. Shoot if FDR was running today ya'll would say he's a commie and yet his administration helped pass one of the most important pieces of legislation our nation has seen. I'm talking about the New Deal, which brought about Social Security. Sure it had some faults, but there are millions of Americans today that could not live without that safety net.
