As much as I love shitposted pictures with text, the Political Thread should implement a submission statement policy.

If you're going to shitpost a picture with text, you should have to accompany it with an explanation of why the text is correct and why you agree with it.

If you want to post a meme or something intelligent, carry on as before.

-Amen, booty. The education industry/academics/certain politicians have managed to convice people that *everyone* should go to college...and hey. Dont worry the state will loan you the money. That has created massive demand for an inferior product/cheapened degrees. Tuition increases of <7% per year over 30 years is obscene and immoral. "Big education" is a parasitic industry.

-before some dumbass brings up "free" post secondary ed in Scandinavia...its generally limited to the top 25% and merit based. Everyone else goes to trade school.

Will Rogers

"There are three kinds of men: The ones that learns by reading. The few who learn by observation. The rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves."

The dude has hundreds of folksy, old-democrat, depression era quotes and you pull the fake news. What are the odds?

From your buddies at factcheck.org:

Texas Railroad Commission candidate Roland Sledge broke the public urination taboo in a TV ad titled “Electric Fences.” Sledge starts off by quoting — erroneously as it turns out — one of the nation’s most beloved humorists: “Will Rogers said there’s three kinds of men. The one that learns by reading. The few that learn by observation. And the rest have to pee on an electric fence.”

As he walks along an electric fence, Sledge chastises elected officials who are in it for “personal gain” and incapable of making “hard decisions.”

High Speed Rail Abandoned in Cali.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom says he’s ending the state’s effort to build a high-speed rail line between San Francisco and Los Angeles.

Newsom said Tuesday in his State of the State address it “would cost too much and take too long” to build the line long championed by his predecessor, Jerry Brown. Latest estimates pin the cost at $77 billion and completion in 2033.

Newsom says he wants to continue construction of the high-speed link from Merced to Bakersfield in California’s Central Valley. He says building the line could bring economic transformation to the agricultural region.

And he says abandoning that portion of the project would require the state to return $3.5 billion in federal dollars.

Newsom also is replacing Brown’s head of the board that oversee the project and is pledging to hold the project’s contractors more accountable for cost overruns.

KATY PERRY

'BLACKFACE' SHOE HAS BEEN PULLED FROM SHELVES

http://m.tmz.com/#!2019/02/11/katy-perry-blackface-shoes-for-sale-backlash-pulling-from-shelves/

Katy Perry's shoe that is under scrutiny for resembling blackface is about to be yanked ... TMZ has learned.

Katy's got a whole shoe line for sale at retailers like Dillard's and Walmart -- and a couple of her designs feature what looks similar to blackface ... the "Rue Face Slip On Loafers" and its high-heeled counterpart, "Ora Face Block Heel Sandal."

The "face" shoes have two eyes, a nose and red lips on them, and they come in two different colors ... black and beige. The black one is problematic, because it looks a lot like classic blackface makeup, which the fashion worlddoes not seem to recognize time and again.

The "face" heeled sandals are also problematic ... and Katy's catching major heat for having the shoes on store shelves. Even singer Masika Kalysha is calling for Katy to answer for this, saying on social media ... "So we just gonna let Katy Perry slide?"

Now all they need is the legislature to override the executive's decision to scrap the plan, and they can be exactly like Cincinnati and have a toy train while paying over 1,000 times the price.

I haven't kept up with this, but he does say they are preceding with high speed rail to the sticks.

Eminent domain is easier in the rural areas because there are fewer land owners to bully.

I can't imagine the hundreds, maybe thousands of property owners to deal with in a metro area. Then you come across a few owners that actually have some clout.

Great point. You'd have countless interests including owners, utilities, and on and on. Would presumably have to steer clear of any condo building, commercial high rise, strip mall, or any other large multi owner property

Would be a nightmare

So Trump shutdown the government for a month and managed to get an even worse deal then was offered before? What a master negotiator! !

Could not agree more. The value of a college degree has literally never been lower. Need a legit, federal-level campaign for trade schools if we want to keep decent Americans employed in workforces that college-educated folk deem "beneath them." Low-hanging fruit for our countrymen and women when given the current and future state of our infrastructure.
