I'm a Pat Buchanan Republican and Trump is the closest thing we've ever had to that.

Once again, that is such a simpleton way of looking at things. Depends upon the commodity, of course. But if the tariff is enough, then companies will flee manufacturing in cheap ass China and bring the plants back to the US, or favorable countries to the US. It CAN help the US and hurt China at the same time, what is not to like about that?!?!? Would you rather continue to enrich China and make US workers pay?? They are not playing a game, they are playing long-term to win.
Tariffs funded this country until 1913 when the government effed over the universe by passing the income tax. Tariffs increase wages which offset price increases, and bring jobs back to our shores.
I know tariffs exist and always have. As I stated, I do not understand them. Will these tariffs be bad, good, or neutral, on the economy ?? That is my question. I do not know enough about tariffs to be or “get bent.” What do you think ??

Yes. I’m 72 I consider myself a centrist independent. I saw the discussion about SS and it appeared that there was civil discussion about it and good exchanges of thoughts. I was surfing Yahoo Finance to review various stocks I own, saw the recent headline, wondered how the proposed tariffs would affect the economy and thought folks here might share thoughts. Some have, which is appreciated. Time will tell how the economy is affected. There are pros and cons to tariffs. No surprise there …

American tariff's are charges for certain or all portions of the global economy outside of America to sell stuff to America. You make money by producing stuff, not buying stuff. The key behind tariff's is to make it profitable to produce stuff in America and sell the stuff to others.
Keep in mind, America put China in business with U.S. taxpayer dollars. (Not money from the U.S. "government".) America funded China to what it is today and STILL provides untold hundred's of billions of dollars to China to this day from American tax payers. (Hint, hint SS general fund dollars.)
Without American tax-payer dollars China would be a third world country barely able to feed itself to this day. That is what it was before American tax payers funded China.
That is why President Trump touts tariff's. It makes manufacturers and businesses produce in America which provides livings to American's.
In a nutshell... tariffs will be terrific for America and Americans. America will grow leaps and bounds...
What will happen though is there will be areas that will lose badly for a while. That is called thinking and working strategically versus tactically. President Trump is working strategically and America needs that strategic thinking and planning back badly.

Trump has experienced this strategy - he threatens tariffs and countries make concessions. Often he doesn't actually have to enact tariffs to get what he wants. It's just a shame that the same idiots who were bleating about tariffs last time didn't learn a damn thing.

Tariffs can be a bludgeon to extract more favorable trade terms. That is the one weapon we still have- the ability to consume. Not many countries can go for long without our markets.
Besides, at least Trump is TRYING to put us back on a more fair trade landscape. More than can be said for the uniparty bastards that have sold us out since NAFTA. I can’t see why people want to endorse the status quo. Things have to change asap.
Pelosi absolutely deserves to be raided and imprisoned with her husband. They are criminals with obvious money laundering and I have zerooooo doubt of her involvement in the Capitol hoax and knowledge of the attempted murder of Trump.
Also she clearly threatened Biden to not seek reelection. Biden does not willingly do this unless by threat and bribe.
We definitely need a strong manufacturing base. So many of those jobs are gone. Everyone can't work for the government or fast food and we need to incentivise work, not living off others.

What pisses me off is that they take money from great movies like Deadpool and Wolverine and use it for DEI projects instead of reinvesting into what made them over a billion dollars. Really hoping Iger is fired sooner rather that later.
This is lengthy but deserves your attention. It attempts to give an academic explanation about the obvious things that we know and see about DEI but could not quantify. Suffice to say, DEI is poison and should be eradicated like a weed.

There was. It wasn't explained well enough to convince those who are scared of chamge. They couldn't make them understand that the SS fund is being squandered or that the ROI with having a choice in how to invest your own money would be better and more lucrative.
