That is called herd immunity/resistance over time. What the vaccine did was keep people from getting Covid so bad they required hospitalization and/or died. It was not a guarantee of not getting it...just helped to keep you from getting it so bad it killed you. Humans had no previous immunity to the novel coronavirus.
