You think a Democratic administration would've come in with the dogs and fire hoses? How warped is your persecution complex? Trump had four years to be a dictator. He often submitted to the deep state, appointed uni party goons, and got impeached twice. As for me and my personal position on opposing that treatment, even when turned against my opponents, I agree. That's the main reason why I'm pissed about the actual riot on Jan 6th at all. I already knew what Trump was plotting with the fake electors because I'm a political nerd. And Pence had by that point publicly released he wasn't going to do it. No one was really in any true danger of violence that day(other than overzealous stormers like Miss Ashli), and all those out of touch politicians could do with being brought down a peg or two. Depending on the circumstances and motivations I could've been there protesting with them. But bad actors intentionally went too far on Trump's orders and it gives them all the excuses in the world now to crack down. Possibly on more legitimate protests.

Think about it, I'm about as far left as you get in this country and even I'm like, "Yeah, you do not get to whine about being the victim of government oppression when that crackdown was precipitated by the leader of your movement being the president of the United States, the most powerful position in the world, and using that power to try to destroy our Constitution and associated rights just to retain it." I constantly champion those rights you're claiming are being trampled on. Imagine how everyone to my right, the normal liberals and centrists, feel? They barely give a crap about those rights on an average day, let alone after someone smeared poop on their sacred Capitol. All they ever care about is stability, the veneer of things going moderately well, not abstract principles.

Ultimately we are America, not Russia. Alex Jones was on Tucker just yesterday reacting to the SOTU, not disappeared off to a gulag somewhere. Because we have a Constitution.
