Anyone a farmer on here? Was talking to one today and he was on about buying non perishable food. Basically that fertilizer, something about nitrogen or something, don't know the amount of measurement, but basically it was $300 something but now it's almost $1000. Out of my wheelhouse of understanding.

Talked to an old guy the other night about the fertilizer situation. He discussed it in a way I don’t understand, but he said don’t worry about it. So I guess I will trust him lol

Not a farmer but since I live in the midst of the corn belt (farms all around me that grow corn and/or soy) I know quite a few. Have talked with a couple and they are all bracing for not only much higher prices to do what they do....gas and fertilizer....and perhaps a lower yield this year. Either will add to higher food prices.
Some are talking about trying to cut back on fertilizer...but if they do the yield won't be nearly what they want.

We have quite a few Old fashion German Baptists on the farms around here. Much like the Amish. While many use fertilizer bought from local farmer co-ops...they also do it the old fashioned way...horse manure. When they spread in on their fields you can smell the, uhh, aroma. Favorite saying of farmers around here....'it smells like money'.

we were never energy independent. That is one of the dumbest made up Trump lies. We imported 6 million barrels a day of crude last year. We were exporting about 5million of refined products and importing 2million. There is nothing "independent" about those numbers. We had net exports of some finished products but still relied on the rest of the world for the raw crude. and as of the last update we are still an exporter for 2021 at 3million bpd. oil production went down last year from 13million bpd to 11m bpd. it is projected to return to over 12mil bpd by the end of the year and back to over 13mil bpd next year. Our most dramatic increase in production was from 2008 -2015. hmmm, I wonder who was in charge then? If you haven't figured it out yet gas prices don't follow our production rates. They just go wherever rich speculators **** with the market. production is up, imports are down, prices sky high because rich assholes in NY and TX need some more yachts. The only real world problems that should have effected prices is the TX refinery shutdowns from their stupidity and lack of trucking to move product to customers.
