Not a farmer but since I live in the midst of the corn belt (farms all around me that grow corn and/or soy) I know quite a few. Have talked with a couple and they are all bracing for not only much higher prices to do what they do....gas and fertilizer....and perhaps a lower yield this year. Either will add to higher food prices.
We have quite a few Old fashion German Baptists on the farms around here. Much like the Amish. While many use fertilizer bought from local farmer co-ops...they also do it the old fashioned way...horse manure. When they spread in on their fields you can smell the, uhh, aroma. Favorite saying of farmers around here....'it smells like money'.
