Not a farmer but since I live in the midst of the corn belt (farms all around me that grow corn and/or soy) I know quite a few. Have talked with a couple and they are all bracing for not only much higher prices to do what they do....gas and fertilizer....and perhaps a lower yield this year. Either will add to higher food prices.Anyone a farmer on here? Was talking to one today and he was on about buying non perishable food. Basically that fertilizer, something about nitrogen or something, don't know the amount of measurement, but basically it was $300 something but now it's almost $1000. Out of my wheelhouse of understanding.
Some are talking about trying to cut back on fertilizer...but if they do the yield won't be nearly what they want.
