Crimes that could be considered nonemergencies include theft, suspicious person or vehicle, verbal disputes, prostitution, animal services, and burglary of a residence, business, or vehicle, police said.

Last month, a North Carolina man said his daughter was in Austin for a bachelorette party with friends when the home they were renting was burglarized, KXAN-TV reported.

"They proceeded to call the police and were referred to 311, who instructed them to start an online report. And no law enforcement official arrived at the location," Darin Short explained.

After not hearing back for weeks, he said they received a call Wednesday afternoon saying an officer should contact them within 48 hours, according to the station.

Reports gathered by 311, or online at ireportaustin.com, will still be given to investigators – and detectives will follow up on them when they are able to do so, Chacon said.

He added that the nonemergency response could be reevaluated if the department is able to fill empty officer positions.

You have to be a hard ass on the little stuff so that the bigger crimes don't spin out of control. Say what you want about Rudy Giuliani, but that is how he transformed 1970/80s NYC into NotChicago NYC.

My teacher wife at the start of the school year doesn't put up with any infraction. You can always ease up, but it's hard as hell to clamp down.

Agree. That approach was based on the "broken windows" theory of a criminologist that Rudy hired. The main initial focus was to stop fare jumpers in the subway and remove graffiti.

Worked like a charm.

Fast forward to today and the complete opposite approach is used. Predictably we get the opposite results.

The guy isn't liberal at all so its a pretty stupid post. Raised in a 100% conservative family obsessed with guns. Arrested for trying to talk to Trump not kill him and claimed he was a sovereign citizen with is a far right nutjob hate cult. He also claims he hears people talking to him so he is just a deranged idiot, another far right trait. He is now a mass shooter, another far right trait. He was beat up by an unarmed black man, another far right trait.

Thanks.

Yeah, because of leftist city council and their stupid decision to cancel cadet training classes, Austin is literally falling into anarchy. Police will not come out unless a crime in progress.

Thank you, leftist assholes.

Yep. You’re just like Anne Frank. Poor wittle oppressed white guy :( The victim mentality is strong in here. Conservatives are pussies.
You, just like the other morons you vote with are oblivious to the signs being sent. You are willing to let your freedoms to go in favor of "free" stuff. Be careful what you ask for. Free becomes forced labor when you give up yours rights and you will have to come out of your parents basement and actually work for a lot less than you have now.

They are changing the script on what is and isn't a crime.

Stealing is just a product of capitalism. Thieves are simply grassroots champions of redistributing wealth.

But, look at Australia, they sure clamp down on people leaving their house.

Hate speech and misinformation is up on deck across the globe. They get to decide the qualifiers.

You can't protest your school board without being labeled an extremist.

Terry McAuliffe, running for governor of Maryland Virginia, said the same. They are so confident that the take over is complete. He's not in office, he's running for office and said that.

One of the worst things we ever did was to consolidate our community schools into countywide schools. Where my wife is from, they still have high schools in every little town that have 150 total students. My county high school has 2200 students.

If I have an issue with how things are taught or implemented, what system do I have a larger voice?

Those little schools, without the class offerings of the big schools, have better average ACT scores than ours.
Those little schools even play football. Every able bodied boy is needed. I had a nephew years ago that played football and was in marching band.

They aren't going to play against a St X, but there are plenty of small schools there to have their own leagues.

Arm yourselves folks, this is coming to a city near you. Either way, the police still get there about 95% of the time after the fact so...

Striking Austin off my list of places to visit. That list is getting absurdly long these days.

r

Went to Walmart yesterday morning & I went to where the fig bars stay, in the past they would have had 10 or 12 packs of figs. Yesterday they had 2. Then went to the candy aisle. One of the shelves in the candy aisle was 75% empty. I was taken aback to see this. Then I thought, where have I seen picture before? Then it came to me. We've all seen TV videos of empty grocery shelves in Venezuela & the old Soviet Union. And now thanks to the Marxist Biden regime we're seeing it here & to think that I saw a poll yesterday that has this idiot at a 43% approval rating. Biden is so dumb & incompetent that he makes Jimmy Carter look like Mount Rushmore material. Nikita Khrushchev said that communism would take America over without firing a shot & here we are. Any of you democrat Biden voters having buyers remorse yet?

Isn't there some smaller Schools have their own 7 of 7 league where they can field smaller rosters?

If you live in Florida you know the left has been on a never ending campaign to destroy our governor. Each attempt ends in failure. The latest attempts is a COVID video that makes me proud I voted for him and will make him even more popular

Do they really think quoting DeSantis saying "we trust people to make their own decisions" is going to get them votes. This is hilarious . Oh by the way COVID is not surging down here.

Need to have hard daily or weekly discussions with them asking them what they want for their future, lead them in the direction that benefits their generation the most. Teach them to fight the tyranny and if they have it in them to be leaders in the fight against it. Good Luck to you and your children. Unfortunately I've personally been too late to the game to see what's happened, my three kids are all in their early 20's now. My Fiance's five kids range from 16 to 23. My youngest son is pretty conservative and not falling for all the nonsense. He's got a good head on his shoulder. My Daughter is a lost cause when it comes to wokeness, she's ate up with it. My middle son is fairly woke too, but I think he will come around eventually. My Fiance's Five are pretty much all ate up with the wokeness too and a couple of them question their sexual orientation. We both wish we could have a do over with some of them.
My condolences. This is our worst fear for our kids right now (losing them at college)...

As for the public school thing (and college, too), I'm reminded of the phrase that goes something like if you continue to send your kids to Caesar, you can't be surprised when they return to you as Romans.

"learn to code" was more prophetic than originally thought.

If I can ever get my wife to finally walk away from pharmacy, we'll ALL just sit here and learn C++ together, contract from home and sit here and yell down the hall at each other all day.

I don't know.

I'm talking about central Missouri just outside of KC. They don't play KC schools or Columbia for that matter. The furthest school in the 8 team district is 45 minutes away, two are 15. They've always done it that way and no one school has a competitive advantage because of enrollment. You have a bunch of smaller kids going up against their peers. They'll have 75 boys in the entire school with 25-35 on a team. A third of that will play both ways all night.

My county high school will have 1100 boys and 60 on varsity and most have to dedicate to that sport by middle school. In my wife's town, you still have kids rotate through the sports seasons.

When you ask someone there where they are from, they tell you what town. Your town is known because of the school.

There are 10 or fewer cities in Ky that people will tell you that they are from. People in Ky tell you what county they are from.

There are little towns around us that are like that. One town...the Sr. class is maybe 60 kids. A few miles away is a town that is even smaller...imagine their Sr class is 30 or less. At that school, it is too small to field a football team, so any boy who wants to play football can to down the road to the bigger school and play on their team. Even at that, the bigger town (with the 60 class) fields a football team that only has less than 30 total players. It normally has more than that, but for some reason this year the team is very small. Maybe the 'soccer moms' are finally destroying H.S. football.

Isn't there some smaller Schools have their own 7 of 7 league where they can field smaller rosters?
I think they do that in Iowa. Maybe other states as well.

Maybe some of the people that voted for the idiot Biden, might not be as dumb as we thought. At last they realize that they made a horrible mistake.
Can't read the article. It's behind a pay wall for me.

Anybody who voted for this corrupt ideological imbecile is a f**king idiot. I don't care if they now have buyers remorse. They are all shit for brains and I hope they suffer for it. We all will, unfortunately.

It was a colossal mistake that will negatively affect our country for generations. The current shit-show situation was fully expected by anybody who wasn't totally ignorant or a card carrying leftist pos. I can't forgive that kind of stupidity.

Stop PHUCHING with our Children's minds and start LISTENING to the parents, then maybe you won't see hostile parents outraged at the forced indoctrination and mandates you woke ass liberal clowns are subjecting the kids to. It's borderline abuse. There's a REASON the parents are pissed. Maybe if you don't want this sort of thing happening, then Stop doing things that elicit this sort of reaction. Most parents will fight to the death for their kids.
I increasingly realize that public schooling will not be an option much longer.

We will do our best (perhaps even better) with a combo of home school, private school, and other online education.

But my real question is: what society are we preparing our children for?

I honestly don’t know what this is going to look like in 10 to 20 years, but my mind just keeps going back to Nazi Germany and poor little Anne Frank.

I suggest watching the whole segment, but starting at 6:10 it shows a clip of former Democrat governor Terry McAuliffe saying, “I don’t think parents should get to tell schools what to teach.”

Okay. Then who does? And why? People like this jerk make it more and more clear that the state does think they own your child and they know what’s best for them so you should just shut up and let them handle your kid.

If it were solely up to me, I’d probably already have pulled my children. My wife is one to think the bad things you hear about aren’t happening in central KY. I talk to my kids everyday and so far my kids haven’t had any interactions I’d be upset about... but that could easily change from one year to the next... and with people like Terry McAwfulie, that could be sooner than later.

It all started with timeouts, safe spaces and participation trophies. I truly believe kids today are a lot softer than just 10 years ago. God help us if anybody tries to invade the USA.
They certainly are. I see multiple kids crying (4th and 5th grade) at least 3-4 times a week.

For the most part trouble kids are treated with baby gloves so they don’t listen and continue to act out. If the rare occasion arises where a teacher raises their voice or actually makes them miss something fun, they cry and some will have a tantrum... again 4th and 5th grade kids. It’s crazy.

Oh, Trust me, I know. I've tried a number of their brews. I'm in Wisconsin fairly frequently for work. Actually have a case of Spotted Cow at home that one of the guys from our WI office brought me. I've had Serendipity, the Triple 5, Totally Naked, Spotted Cow, Their Belgian Red, their Raspberry Tart and Two Women (the beer, unfortunately).
Ive got 4 packs of Pear 101 , belgian , rasp tart , and ?? something else from my travels south coming home

This is so dumb. The Russian trolls reading this thread are twirling their mustaches and laughing at how successful they have been in helping divide our country. What's the saying, united we stand, divided we fall?
