Of course the entire holiday is based on the republicans freeing the blacks that democrats threw into bondage. Such that even after it was declared illegal and slaves freed, democrat slaveowners refused to tell their slaves they were free.
So if people really want to teach about the injustices of the past, this is what should be taught. Exactly who threw blacks into bondage, who released them, and who refused to let them go.
