NASCAR thread

Reckon NBC has a clause in that big $$$ contract that says it can tell nascar to butt-out after a certain number of stupid decisions?

I missed the race Sunday. What did he do?
Threw a tantrum after the race door slamming Bowman on the cool down lap after the spin earlier. Definitely not his first time, I remember the water incident throwing it on Alex at Indy several years ago. Just like his boss having something in common showing themselves during the post-race after a Bowman win. Not sure if Hamlin addressed it on his little podcast but he better tread carefully to not look like a hypocrite criticizing Bubba for following in his own footsteps.

With 5 races remaining it looks like Kyle Busch will miss the playoffs unless he can pull off a win breaking his playoff streak. If he can't win at all it will also break his streak of at least 1 win over the last 20 seasons.

Also looking like Bubba could be out too. I don't get why NASCAR puts him in all their promotional stuff when he has 2 career wins with one being a rain shortened race.

Talk of Austin Dillon possibly being out of 3 car at the end of the year. His replacement? None other than Ty Dillon and he will be in the #33 with his crew chief Keith Rodden for the Brickyard. RCR isn't the same organization as it was with Earnhardt and Harvick overachieved in their garbage equipment. Newman nearly was 2 laps from winning them a championship at Homestead before Harvick won it in his first year with SHR. Hell, I remember 20 years ago Johnny Sauter in the Busch Series saying "I have to get out of this Childress shit equipment before I ruin my career."

Apparently the Amazon/Discovery races will be broadcast from a studio in Charlotte like FOX did during the pandemic. I hate to bitch and moan about NASCAR all of the time but this is another direction the sport is headed that I can't stand. I have criticized FOX several times here for making it seem like they did not want to be at the track with their pre-race team doing coverage from the Charlotte studio before and after the race giving off the impression that they did not care to be present at the track.

In sports, the broadcasters need to be present at the venue of a game or a race from a booth or on the sidelines for basketball. This is another one of the cost cutting measures NASCAR takes while many fans who don't have Amazon or Discovery are going have to pay more to see the races already. I like seeing the broadcast teams at the race and FOX's prime years with Joy, DW, McReynolds in the booth and the Hollywood Hotel with Hammond and DW as well as Trackside Live with Speed Channel. Those days are in the past and it is ashame.

I haven't watched much racing at all this season, but I'm thoroughly unimpressed. The racing has been meh. Keslowski went 150 miles on a tank of gas.

And now, we have a red flag so the guys who are running out of gas don't have to pit. It's easy to see why the grandstands are empty.

I like Larson, glad he won but what a terrible decision to not throw the caution before taking the white flag with Preece stalled on the back stretch and end the race under caution. Race fans cheated out of a green flag finish.

I just got around to watching the race from yesterday and I get to the point of the red flag with the green white checker coming up and they say they are switching to the USA network. Well guess what? My freaking DVR feature of YouTube didn't get the memo so I miss the ending. Watched over 3 hours of racing and they can't wait a few more minutes to finish the race? Just another reason NASCAR is putting themselves out of business.

It's not NASCAR's fault this happened. There was an historic, wordly event they wanted to cover at the top of the 6 PM hour. Regardless of politic beliefs an incumbent President stepping down +100 days before an election deserves coverage above and beyond a sporting event.

NBC and affiliates did the right thing switching to USA when news broke then right back to have the race on NBC to maximize eyeballs/attention.

Larson drove his azz off yesterday and even Tyler Reddick credited him for a move he was pulling off that caught everyone, himself included, off guard. The fact that the 6 pulled off coming to the green was a lucky break. The caution on the final lap was clearly a case of not wanting another Nashville debacle. I understand the criticism there, but don’t under sell what Larson accomplished.

You can't ride both sides of the fence here. Saying you understand the criticism but underselling Larson has nothing to do with it. This is on NASCAR, not Kyle Larson as even Blaney clearly stated in his rant postrace. They had over half a lap with Preece just parked on the back stretch not going anywhere and knew damn well that their was a safety risk before the final lap once the cars would roll by. Drivers running out of fuel at NASCAR should set not precedence going forward in NASCAR deeming when to throw a caution when fuel mileage is all apart of the strategy that goes into motorsports. Pit if you can't make it or save enough to stay out, simple enough. Results of races need to be in the teams hands and not the sanctioning body of NASCAR. No one liked watching races finish under the caution flag and that is the purpose of unlimited overtimes in NASCAR.

Always liked Cory since I saw his picture with the long hair and long beard. Envisioned him as the type that he gave when his post race interview, he kept looking down at his watch until he had to say to his interviewer and finally said he wished he had more time, but he has a live studio 'rasslin match in 30 mins. What NASCAR needs right is more 'rasslers and less pretty boys. Need to go into the turns hard and scrub the speed speed off, no power steering, come out of their cars with blood and blisters on their hands. Seems like the last time I saw that was season before I saw a two door Taurus. They need to get back to when a template fit a show room car and the car at the track. Back when that particular make of car won on Sunday, the sales went up on Monday, and we "wannabe racers" got any advances that manufacturers made. Let 'em race what we can go to dealer and buy. STOCK CARS my ass. If you're old enough to remember, you know what stock racin' was, if you're not, you sure missed out some good racin'

RUBBIN' is RACIN'

Missed the last 100 laps or so, but saw "Dillon is the winner" tweet from Bob Pockrass. Knew something weird had to have happened for that to be true.
He was the best car and would have won outright if not for Stenhouse causing a wreck with a lap and a half to go. They had a green white checker and it looked to me like Joey got a slight jump but nothing egregious. Dillon drove into turn 3 hard and knocked Joey up the track into the wall and then as Hamlin started around them he caught him in the right rear sending Hamlin into the wall. Joey is just mad he wasn't the one who got to wreck someone for the win.

Dillion also barely missed getting crashed out before the last caution. They said he was 2 or 3 seconds ahead before then so he would have won going away.

Anybody that thinks what Dillon did yesterday is "OK" is not a true race fan. His team clearly stated over the radio " wreck him". There needs to be some serious penalties (taking the win away) for this. I do not care he would have won going away IF not for a caution, but there was a caution, it is not the first time one has came out at the end when a guy had a race locked up. IF they do not punish him severely, he will most definitely pay for it on the track in weeks to come (which he will either way). I can not stand Logano or Hamlin, but you can not have racers just moving guys out of the way like that. He wrecked BOTH guys on purpose with instructions from the team to do so. RC after the race tried to lie his ass off saying "nobody told him to wreck anybody", the reporter played back the soundbite from his radio clearly on of the crew saying "wreck him, now."

I'm not condoning what he did and never said it's okay but Joey don't need to act like a saint in his interviews. He would and has wrecked many people for a win. NASCAR wants to put so much emphasis on winning and getting into the chase that they have created this mess. If Dillon doesn't get into the chase without a win he likely doesn't get that aggressive so NASCAR needs to change their rules if they don't like what they have created with this format.
