Tubbys seat was severely hot. I don't think we could know for certain which players would have came with all the issues uk was about to have to work through reguarding staff changes etc. tubby was only going to be extended 2 more years. Thank God our fans make the needle move.

I have it on good authority that which school that the Lucas kid would choose that Patterson was going to choose the opposite. It was between Florida and Kentucky for both players Patterson did not like Lucas that much not like the media portrayed it to be. He was annoyed with him. Lucas was going to come to UK and Patterson was going to go to Florida but since Tubby left and Billy Clyde gilispie became our coach then Lucas chose Florida instead. Much to the dismay of most everybody on this board. I was thrilled to high heaven that he chose Florida instead because I thought he sucked pretty bad. And when he chose Florida I knew that it was between Kentucky and Duke for Patterson and Billy Clyde sealed the deal with Patterson and his family.

Also Rondo is the guy who brought in Crawford and Morris.

Tubby is also hot on the heels of a 7'2" kid in Arkansas wonder if he is the next Allegne or Jared Carter

So Tayshaun really wanted to go to UCLA but they didn't offer the 12th rated player in the country that lived in their city, and didnt have any behavior or academic issues? They did sign a bunch of lower rated recruits but didn't offer Taushaun? Hmm.

Pitino had already been recruiting Prince before Tubby was hired. I do know Prince did like UCLA a lot.

Coaching is one of the most secure professions in America. Once you get your foot in the door it's hard to get kicked out. I guess you just make so many connections that someone is going to give you a job. Even the NFL has assistant coaches that jump to a different side of the ball when they have to move staffs.

If you ask any of the players on 1998 team whether Ricky could have won the title with that team they will all tell you no way they were too slow and couldn't press. So Tubby coached that team to the Title whether folks like it or not

Coach G is just easily forgotten. He was here for a cup of coffee and so awful I think most have tried to eliminate his tenure from their memory. He was wedged in between a massive underachiever in Tubby and a very memorable and successful coach in Calipari. Coach G was an idiot...Tubby could have been a very good coach at UK if he had recruited better. He had some very good seasons record wise, but his inability to recruit hardly any upper tier talent was the reason he never won his 2nd title or even got to another Final Four.

Nothing for a fact here, but the way I understood it at the time was Patterson would have gone to Florida with Lucas had Tubby stayed here. That was the consensus with the guys that usually steered me right on the recruiting scene back in 07. Guess we'll never know, but the pattersons were swayed by G like you said. Not tubby.

UK assistant, George Felton was the key recruiter getting those guys, when he left Tubby, recruiting dropped off the map. I believe Felton left UK to become a scout for a shoe company. I forget who Tubby replaced Felton with.

G didn't fail because of Tubby. He failed because he's a psycho. The moment we give a coach like Gillispie a pass is the day we start looking at coaches like him again to head up UK.

Gillispie wasn't dealt a great hand, but it definitely wasn't horrible.

Problem was he took that hand and then played it as poorly as it could possibly be played.
