I don't think that explains it. The demotion came last year before the season. The Lawson stayed. Right? Perhaps there was something that happened during the season? Or, was it resentment building up?
He's the head coach, he can demote, fire, or hire anyone he wants. He demoted him because he aint one of his guys, he brought his staff in like every other coach in the country does. I'm not sure why Kentucky fans care so much since they don't hate Tubby.
If they were not happy with the demotion they should've left before the season. The demotion was clear and the father accepted the demotion and the kids chose to play. Making a video saying "f*** Tubby" shows they are classless. Say what you want about his coaching skills and recruiting prowess, Tubby has always been nothing but a class act personally.
The Memphis AD has to be feeling like a huge idiot right about now.

By that time it had become apparent to all but the most loyal of Tubby's nut huggers that he refused to recruit the elite players, and UK fans rebelled.
A "class act" doesn't slink off in the middle of the night per say, and not even say good bye to his players, he just doesn't. To me, that shows a lack of character. Tubby recruited these young men, and just up and left them without bothering to take the time to wish them well speaks of a person who wasn't as "classy" as some would have us believe.
All he cares about is cashing checks and taking care of Saul. It's well known we lost out on Duhon and other elite PG's because they knew Saul was going to start. That's simply pathetic.
Saul had no business being on scholarship at a D-! school, period, much less being the STARTING PG at KENTUCKY. Once it became apparent he was going to feature his son as the PG, to the detriment of the program, I was done with him.

I don't dislike Tubby, but I don't think he needs to be retired at Rupp, either. I definitely don't think anyone needs to be taking up for him at this point.

The people with their panties in a bunch over OTS a decade later likely are the same type of people who would get so upset over a game they'd threaten a referee (jokingly or not) on the Internet. This type of person calls radio shows and tweets at players and recruits. We all know the type.
This same type of person exists on the far fringes of both mainstream political parties and numerous pro and college fanbases across the country. UK doesn't have the market cornered on wack jobs, but we probably have a central location in Crazy Town given the sheer size of BBN.
Keyzer Soze might be Saul Smith in disguise. The guy defends any comment on any forum regarding Tubby. Call a spade a spade and talk about how shitty Tubby's coaching has been since he left UK and you're toast.
Some of them probably. But why do people feel the need to back Tubby and not offer that same backing to Joe B? Half of this board acts as if Joe is some bum on the street. He's light years better than Tubby, and he's just as classy if not classier.
And not to mention, he was Cal before Cal was Cal. He kissed no ass and the establishment hated him for it. That's why he's not getting into the HOF. That should be the point of most threads but instead we pretend Tubby is mistreated and deserves recognition for accomplishments he really didn't accomplish.

I like both. I also like Eddie Sutton, Mitch Barnhart, CM Newton and Cliff Hagan. I don't understand the hate for men who put their heart and soul into our program. I don't like Pitino, but I respect what he did while here and the memories he provided. The guys who compared Tubby haters to Higgins nut jobs are probably right. It's a game. If it causes you to hate people to that degree, go get a hobby. Some of you bash Tubby more than BCG. Joe Hall lost in the first round two years in a row with teams that had Minniefield, Master, Hord, Hurt, Bowie and Turpin. I don't hate the man for it. He loves UK and we should respect the fact that he is such a huge ambassador for us, even when half the fan base wanted him gone.

Eddie Sutton walked into a dumpster fire. Seth Hancock and other boosters ran the show at that point. Eddie was too drunk to fight them. He was a damn good coach, though. Alcoholism is terrible. It damn near destroyed him once and then a second time when he put those two kids on the plane that crashed at Oklahoma State.
Tubby stayed quiet when asked about race playing a part in his departure. He knew damn well that was pure BS. I will not forgive him for allowing that narrative to run wild and watchinng this program take a pounding over it. That's not class. Tubby is a good guy but why do we not apply that label to other coaches who have failed to meet expectations? Plenty of good men didn't cut it.

I must add, I grew up in a Team Joe B household. I remember wearing a "Hang on Joe" shirt when I was a small child as Joe was contemplating retirement. Mom sent him a polaroid of me wearing the shirt. Hall responded with a one-page hand-written letter thanking us for our support and wishing me well as I grew up. I've been a fan ever since.
And, yes, Hall was better than OTS in every category + he followed THE legend of UK basketball.
