Markelle Fultz Announcing Tonight.

Without fail Washington always seems to pull in a 5-Star kid every year or so. Almost had Terrence Jones as well. For the life of me I can't understand it, but hey, #AnyoneButLouisville

Got an offer from his so-called dream school and doesn't include his dream school in his top 3? Sounds like the kid just wanted an offer to pump up his resume.

Louisville fans and insiders were so sure that the kid was #L1C4. Obviously PayPalCal/Wes/Nike must have paid him to go to Washington.

Did people really believe UK had a realistic shot at Fox, Monk, Bridges and Fultz?

Monk is probably coming to Kentucky. I don't really think Calipari prioritized Fultz over Monk and Bridges. It's probable that those two are his first options.

This will sound like sour grapes but check all my previous posts. Fultz is a great prospect, but Monk is significantly better and Alkins will be a better college player (Fultz may have more ceiling but Alkins is college ready). This will be good for both him and UK. Best of luck to the young man.

We will get Monk and probably Fox and one other sg . I hope it is Alkins now though I did like Fultz more but if he wants to go to Washington I look at like the Brown or Newman decisions - stupid is as stupid does.

Why do you insist we will land two shooting guards in addition to Bridges and Fox?

We will have Mulder, Matthews, and Hawkins to give Kentucky wing depth next year. We don't need a five star guard coming off the bench to play 15 minutes/game.

Fox (possibly Ulis)
Monk - Mulder - Hawkins
Bridges - Matthews
SKJ - Wynyard - Willis
Ayton - Humphries

Ive wanted Fox and Monk all along. I'd rather this young man go somewhere else. He's a good looking player, but I believe there is separation between the 3 at this point in time. Alkins, Monk, and Fox and if we only get 1 of the 3 then so be it. Good luck to Markelle.

I'd say it's a combination of three things. Lorenzo Romar is one of the good guys in college basketball (or at least he's perceived as such) and he and/or some of his assistants likely do a very good job of being able to relate to kids and selling themselves as trustworthy people. As has been mentioned in this particular case, I'm sure Romar and Co. have promised this kid he'll get plenty of run at the point guard spot and be "the guy" there, which may not have necessarily been the case at not only Kentucky, but also even with his other two finalists in Arizona and Louisville.

Even though I don't think Romar is a particularly great coach and think his teams tend to play a little sloppy/out of control, some kids are okay with that as long as they get to be the big fish in the smaller pond (at least in comparison to UK, UL and U of A in this case).

Yes this announcement is getting national attention with tons of twitter responses, huge fan following, big news articles........um, wait a minute.

Alkins is the two guard we will get and want, fultz wanted a UK offer, also he was a second option if we didn't get our first

Who was the last really good player to commit to Washington? Terrence Ross or Isiah Thomas? Yikes, a "shooting guard" loses a 3pt contest to Thon Maker? No thanks, guess he just wanted to be the man. Nothing wrong with going your own way. Good luck to the kid.

Yeah, as the hypochondriac pessimist that I am, that's what worries me with recruiting though. As of this moment we're the supposed "leaders" for several great prospects, but as the Fultz recruitment has seemingly shown us, things can change in an instance. You're the leader for a recruit until you're not.

But the optimist in you should that it works the other way as well. While he may not be the leader for a recruit at the moment, we very well could be later in the process. A lot of the big names won't decide until Spring or close to it and Spring is still a ways away. Try to be the optimist, your hair won't turn gray as fast and your wife/GF will be a lot happier. And you know what that means!! LOL!!

This.

The only way I see us getting Monk and Alkins is if Cal plans to play them together (Monk at the 2, Alkins at the 3).

That's only happening if we miss on Bridges or Cal plans to play Bridges as a 4 (a la Winslow at Duke last year) alongside Monk and Alkins at the 2 and 3.

But I think your lineup is what Cal is visualizing as well. It's how I see it playing out if Ayton reclassifies. Not sure what direction he goes in if Ayton stays in 2017.

There sure is a lot of confidence from Kentucky fans in regards to Monk. Yes, Calipari has the best track record (next to Coach K) in getting the players he wants to get, but has Calipari ever pulled a legacy recruit away from the home school? No matter what is being put out there, I just cannot believe that Monk will not play at Arkansas. That program could be a dumpster fire and I still think he would go there.

If Calipari can get Monk, that would be something else.

He plucked John Wall right out of Tobacco Road with Duke and Carolina gunning for him. But yeah it will be though to get Monk out of his home state. But tith these things in mind, the longer his recruitment plays out, the better for us. He's about to go into his senior year of high school. If he were to commit Arkansas now, he would be a hero to all of his friends and all of the locals. If he were to commit to Kentucky now, he would be ostracized and hated by everyone. So if he plans on coming to Kentucky, why not just wait until the spring?

I thought that Duke and UNC weren't seriously recruiting Wall until late in his recruitment or not at all? I agree on the timing of Monk's commitment, as you described and my gut tells me Kentucky leads in his recruitment, but in the end can the home school legacy be overcome?

Devin Booker pulled away from Missouri.

I don't understand the legacy comment towards Monk and Arkansas. Cal pulled Goodwin away from Arkansas and he practically lived on their campus. Shouldn't you be worried about Kansas and their recruiting?

I thought he meant legacy as in had a family member (dad, brother, etc.) play at the school, since Monk's brother played at Arkansas.

Yes. That's what I meant. Also, doesn't his brother work at Arkansas. Didn't realize that Calipari had a track record of pulling kids away from the home school, although the allure of playing at Missouri has to be 0.

His brother doesn't work there anymore according to a poster here TIFWIW. Plus, Monk's comments basically mimic Archie Goodwin's words before coming here.
