Louisville This Rick Pitino That

One thing I have to ask, are many of their fans just low life trash or are they really so ignorant they can't see that they hack and grab as much as they accuse other teams of doing? well actually more than what they accuse other teams of doing.

Come on fellas CardGame confirmed it. .......
Maybe they just didn't want to take another ass whippn'.

Well, its nice that one doesn't even have to go to the Tards board to get a laugh.

I went there so you don't have toooo.

They lost again last night 102-94. Went to overtime tied at 87.

34 fouls called on the hackers to 18 called on PR. Sounds typical.

Rick quotes:
"Good game. Good game tonight." Many positives for Louisville."

Pitino joking about the home cooking PR referees calling a foul on Johnson: "That was a perfect block. You're in Rupp Arena now, guys."

"We are getting so much out of this. I am so, so pleased with this."

Jeff Greer

Puerto Rico beat Louisville twice on Wednesday, but Rick Pitino was particularly upset with the second loss, which saw Puerto Rico's senior national team paste U of L by 34 points.

Pitino insisted that this is all part of the reason why they took this trip.

Anyway, here's a look back at the two games tonight, and a thorough review of each player's performance.

And here's the transcript of Pitino's postgame Q&A. I left out the Puerto Rico-centric questions ...

Opening thoughts

The guys in the Louisville locker room were worried too much about officiating and not about playing basketball, and it takes you out of the game mentally. They learned a valuable lesson because they're going to have to go at Duke and at Michigan State, and they can't worry about anything other than that.

On if it's difficult to not convey that during the game because he's with Puerto Rico

I just conveyed it now. (my emphasis of pissed off Rick) These are pro athletes and it's no different than Michael Jordan, when the college kids beat them in the Olympics and one guy went off, Michael said, 'I've got that guy.' The same thing they did with Damion Lee tonight. Vassallo said, 'I've got him.' Because they were embarrassed with him getting 36 points. These are athletes with a lot of pride.

On if his U of L team was tired

I think their spirits were destroyed tonight. They learned a valuable lesson ... I think the other team played great. And that happens. This is what this is all for. Our road schedule, they're going to learn to play with hostile fans, and these fans are cheering for us. They're going to learn a lot from this.

On if he took any positives from U of L's performances

No, I thought our team was horseshit tonight. The reason they were horseshit is this team (Puerto Rico) played defense like they've never played defense before. They're getting a culture for the first time of what defense is all about.

On whether it's difficult to convey the learning lesson message to young players

Look, they were concerned with the wrong things tonight. The bench was getting under their skin, from Puerto Rico. They didn't respond the right way.

On learning more from Wednesday's blowout than Tuesday's close game

It's the summer. They've got to realize right now what defense is all about, because in three weeks, Puerto Rico's learned what it's like to play great defense. They've got to learn to play the same type of defense.

On U of L's first game of the night
They should've won both games but they don't have the guard play to win both of those games.

On Ray Spalding
He needs to just learn defense, run the ball into his hands. He's slow reacting to the ball when catching the ball. (defense is when the other team has the ball, Rick.) He's going to be a great player. I don't know when it's going to be, but someday he's going to be a great player.(trust me, i'm a coach.)

On Duke and UNC on Big Monday
I'm just trying to get through this trip. I've been going nine or 10 hours a day (try hanging with Cal some day)and I'm not concerned about Big Monday (knows he's gonna lose both.) or any of those things like you guys are.

That's fine if you don't want to believe me. You don't have to but I am not one providing the information. I am just sharing it. CardGame confirmed that he was at the gym at the hotel this morning around 11. Jeff Greer also put out an article about the game being canceled tonight and he didn't mention anything about it being for Rick playing golf. If that was the reason, it would have been part of the story.

Terry's jersey issue was totally shoe related. Notice all the Nike school kids had on their college jersey's. All of the Adidas kids did not.

I haven't heard anything about Wayne. Please enlighten me as to what he said and where he said it. I stay pretty much on top of UofL things and I have never once heard this.

Also, I have never heard anything about MegaTrezl either. Please feel free to inform me on that. Why can't he stand Rick?

MegaTrezl???? By Mega, is that some UL jargon for 2nd round?

Pitino also compared one of his 17 sucky big men to Nazr Mohammed.

Rick, we get it, you really miss your time at Kentucky, but please, move on. I'm tired of you comparing your players to former Kentucky players. Compare them to your former Louisville players, since you have been at Louisville now nearly twice as long as you were at Kentucky.

I can't believe Louisville fans actually put up with hearing Rick constantly bringing up his time at Kentucky.

Yes, Lee played better than Mercer ever could have, Mathiang played like Dwight Howard, and Anus played like a All-American, but alas, it wasn't enough.

Demling and all of the Pitino nut lickers are trying to put lipstick all over this pig by tweeting about how good all of the Freshmen are gonna be. I'm sure you'll see alot of "Bridge year" comments this season from the Baghdad Bob Louisville media. [eyeroll]

I heard the end of the NAZR comparison. Who was he refering to?

Also, Pitino has been at Louisville for 14 years, can he please compare his crappy players to former Louisville guys and not insult KY greats?
I heard it and I believe he was referring to Motz. Rick just stated that he is good but it's going to take time for him to fill into that. He has to put the work in more or less.

As for the poster who asked if we are tired of Rick bringing up his time at Kentucky. If I can be completely honest, the answer is yes and no. Yes, I don't want to hear about Kentucky or his time at Kentucky. But no it doesn't bother me in a lot of ways because he did have such a great run and when he compares something to that stretch of his career that typically means that someone is going to be a very good player. Also, I will freely admit that I like the fact that it drives the UK fans I know crazy. For that reason alone, it bothers me less.

Not really.

Comparing Matz Stockman to Nazr Mohammed??? Jesus christ. Nazr Was a back to the basket bruiser with phenomenal touch. "Matz" isn't even the same type of player [laughing]

Stockman will never start for Louisville and cant even score against the PR Junior Team

Did anyone see where Oniku or whatever his name is shoved Barea in the face during post game handshakes? Boggles the mind how they recruit thug after thug..

Just as sure as the sun rose this morning.....they lost again. Rinse and repeat all weekend long.

During handshake line after the game, UL big man Chinanu Onuaku took a swipe at Puerto Rico guard JJ Barea.

"Chinanu Onuaku, during Wednesday night’s postgame handshake after U of L’s 96-62 loss to Puerto Rico, gave Puerto Rico star J.J. Barea a shove instead of a handshake.
That move will cost Onuaku one game in Puerto Rico, and maybe more.
Berea, according to most accounts, is a famous trash-talker, and even though he wasn’t playing on Wednesday, had plenty to say to the U of L players during the lopsided affair.
When it came time to shake hands, Onuaku wasn’t having any of it. But instead of bypassing Barea, he tried to sweep the NBA guard away with his left arm and elbow, and Barea grabbed Onuaku’s shirt in response.
The shove is one thing. Who Onuaku shoved is another. Barea is one of the most accomplished athletes in Puerto Rican history, and his teammates have his back.
In an interview with WDRB before the game, U of L assistant Kenny Johnson said, “We won’t see him tonight.” When asked if he would play the rest of the week, he said, “Everything is coach’s decision. I don’t know.”

They blamed the loss on officials fouling them out. 1. They all said the stream was down so how do they know their players weren't just fouling since this is the first game pitino coached them? And 2. After the onuaku shove, did they really think a physical style would be allowed the next day?

With berea out its basically the same team plus balkman that we destroyed twice last year and remember how badly they made fun of our competition last year

But a lot is being pushed by the powers at UL to promote their team this year. The same way we do football even when we know better deep down to not get our hopes up

Damn, that was actually worse than I thought. Not violent or anything, but much more of a intentional gesture. I figured they brushed in the handshake line and he game him a small extended elbow. But that was very blatant.

Rotflmao. They'll be lucky to get 12pts 12rbs out of their bigs

I think they'll average 5blks easily though

Our 3 bigs, Johnson towns and WCS averaged 25 ppg and 18 rbs per game. That's two nba lottery picks and another draftee. But they think their 3 guys stockman, onuaku and anal can do 20/20? lmao. They are seriously going to make me bust my stitches and die. They just won't stop making me laugh

They've already used his absence to justify the loss last night. Rick will sit him for the rest of the trip and use that as a deflection for his rag tag team going 0-fer.

Anytime Rick can lay blame on a player for HIS shortcomings, it's a done deal.
