At 6:10pm cst tonight I'll be in front of my television jerking off and watching Elly de la MF'ing Cruz start his audition for 2024 NL MVP. Probably play around with a finger in my own b-hole while I'm at it.

I'm that GD excited.

FYI: he wears #44. This guy is our 2020s version of Eric Davis.

This post has aged well. Didn’t even need lube.

Took my daughter tonight at her request for her birthday (turning 5) and she watched about 4 innings then dove into the food and playground, the latter mostly with my wife.

She saw the walkoff land from the swings in right field and said “wait? We won? The reds never win!”

But she had a blast. And I did too. Elly rules.

@bradyjames

I've been mainly buying older product but this kid(Elly) presents an opportunity to maybe get his cards at a bargain price. If he doesn't shit the bed, how long do we have before his cards explode?

So my boy Christian Encarnacion-Strand isn't getting the call up? All he does is put up 1.000+ OPS's year after year yet this flash in the pan Elly gets all the love. 😉

Will anyone even remember Elly didn’t hit the game winner?

I said last night De La Cruz is so good those around him will over achieve, and Will Benson in 47 games played of a career is a .200 hitter with no HRs. That guy hit the game winning home run tonight though. That’s the impact a guy like Elly brings that doesn’t just show up in a stat sheet.

Unbelievable!

It’s already too late. His Bowman Chrome 1st is skyrocketing.

Nate will know better than me, but it seems like his official RC should be out with Topps update, as Topps series 2 just came out this week.

Hope this helps.

I remember Bowman starting that trend when they made a comeback in the 90s. They basically gave everyone who was anyone a rookie card, so their set was like twice as big as all the other brands. Just wanted to make sure they always had the very first, original rookie card for any potential star.

(caveat: IIRC)

Chief — ever thought about orange juice futures instead?

I’m still watching it because he does it so effortless and fluid. A trait that not many hitters acquire.
To me, Matt Olson has an effortless swing. That homer Elly hit was a violent attack on an innocent baseball. Just raw power. Love it! And preferred over what Olson does.

LEX is so easy to fly out of that it's hard to have any complaints... but not having a direct flight to NYC is a huge hole.

Blame covid, and the fact that many NYC companies are not fully back in the office yet. That Delta 6am to LGA may not come back for a while longer.

I miss that Delta direct to LGA that used to fly from Bluegrass. Left at 6am, returned at 10pm and flew 5 days a week. I never did it same day, but I knew people that did for business. I did several multi-day trips on those flights though.

Flying direct to LGA in 10 days out of CVG. Not sure how there's a bigger need to fly direct to Philly than NYC.

At least the non-stop to Denver on United takes O'Hare out of the equation on flights to Vegas and such and Allegiant non-stop to Vegas is there as well.

SDF has a few directs to LGA if you don't mind the drive there. It at least takes the Atlanta or Detroit connection out of the equation.

I ordered my son and I an Elly tee shirt jersey and a 22 Bowman Chrome Hobby Box Lite because my son says the Super refractor Elly has yet to be pulled. Also told the lucky shit he better save his money from his summer job for when we go to Grand Slam in a few weeks. That said, guys…THIS IS WHAT ITS ABOUT. My 17 year old son and I share a love for a game, a team, and a hobby that has been reinvigorated by a 21 yr old super hero baseball player. Preston thinks I’m doing this for him when I buy this stuff, but it’s for the kid inside of me (metaphorically speaking, I’m not celebrating this month, not that’s there’s anything wrong with that). Man, it’s like I’m a teen again. Let’s just hope he’s more 89 Griffey instead of 93 Van Poppel.

Spitballing:

I think Brady/Chief/Krazy should buy a riverboat near GABP…sell high-end sandwiches off of it to the pregame/work lunch crowd.

End of summer book for you guys: Out Aug 22

Gambler is more than a traditional autobiography. In addition to sharing his against-all-odds American dream story, Walters reveals in granular detail the secrets of his proprietary betting system, which will serve as a master class for anyone who wants to improve their odds at betting on sports. Walters also breaks his silence about his long and complicated relationship with Hall of Fame professional golfer Phil Mickelson.
On a typical weekend gameday packed with college and pro sports, Walters will bet $10 million—a small sum for someone as wealthy as he is today, but an unbelievable fortune for the child who was raised by his grandmother in extreme poverty in rural Kentucky. By the age of nine, Walters became a shark at hustling pool and pitching pennies. As a young adult, he set records as a used-car salesman, hustled golf, and dabbled in bookmaking. He eventually moved to Las Vegas, where he revolutionized sports betting strategy and became a member of the famed Computer Group, the first syndicate to apply sophisticated algorithms and data analysis to sports gambling. He became extraordinarily wealthy while overcoming addictions and outmaneuvering organized crime figures made infamous by Martin Scorsese’s film Casino.

Teams I grew up following with rabid intensity, listed in order of optimism for future prospects:

1. Bengals
2. UK football (tie)
2. Reds (tie)

(Oh hey look, FCC is leading MLS!)

4. UK basketball

Would rather have Brady take over UK Athletic's NIL deals so we can start pulling some Illinois State talent again.

Any room on the Reds/Elly De La Cruz bandwagon for a fella down the river?

I need something to follow during the up and coming dog days before fall camp begins.

My qualifications include my grandfather (he absolutely worshipped Pete Rose and before that The Big Red Machine) occasionally taking me to “Cincinnata” in the summer to watch the Reds play at Riverfront. That stadium seemed so big at the time and seeing it as part of the skyline as you get ready to cross the bridge was magical to a young kid. Loved getting the ice cream in the MLB replica mini helmet.

I also have memories of spending the night at my grandparents’ house in the summer … The radio in their living room would be tuned into Marty Brennaman on the call while my grandmother huffed down cripises and enjoyed her evening Scotch on the rocks.
