What a sham NIL is turning out to be.

First, the whole concept was based on the idea that schools make tons of money off the "name, image, likeness" rights of players and players deserved to be able to control their own rights. But that is not what is happening. Instead, it has turned into pure, unadulterated, and unregulated pay for play.

Second, the mantra of so many was that schools make so much money they could afford to share it with players. But that is not allowed. So, the boosters who already spend money buying tickets, donating money for perks, etc., are asked to donate more to pay the players.

Third, and perhaps the most predictable thing of all, was that having players earn enormous sums of money might lead to a more disjointed, less cohesive team. The results of this are still developing of course, but if Oscar is really not living in the Lodge because he makes too much money and doesn't have to live there, think about how crazy that is. The Lodge is supposed to be a palace for the players - unique to UK and a big selling point to recruits.

This is not a knock on Strokin at all, complete opposite. I use him because he is a coach and assume he knows more than most in here. But I would bet a decent amount of $ he could take this roster and be within 2 games of their total wins at seasons end.

And for a helluva lot less than $9m.

Not too late open up the GYERO glow in the dark putt putt? It’ll be setup as a non for profit where all proceeds benefit the buyout. Thinking out loud here.

The Top Golf Putt Shack is gonna be sick.

-Oscar's interview last night was a really bad look, imo. He's been playing like ass (numbers be damned), and getting ABUSED defensively - and spending a LOT of time whining and crying out there for his own mistakes.

I agree much of it isn't his fault, and I never doubt his actual effort, I love the kid and he's frustrated -- but he basically threw the team under the bus. I'm sure players are wondering just who he's talking about, as he was pretty clear he thinks several are lazy pussies.

He may be correct, probably is, but I'm not sure saying all that publicly was the best idea.

Livingston
Oscar
Wheeler 25 min off bench
Toppin 25 min off bench backing up the 4&5

That’s it, no one else. We are avg at rebounding when we play big. Our D sucks despite playing the guys who are “good” on D.

Roll with this lineup. Try and score 80 and live with everything else.

* Cal wasn't going to UCLA. That was pure negotiating and Topbutton fell for it.

* Who knows if Livingston is good when he's out of position constantly. He can't be worse than Ware and Collins at the 4.

* Schools should be paying players directly from their athletics budget. It is insane they don't have to pay for the labor of their most valuable asset.

Anyone who thought NIL would be anything but a free-for-all circus is a fool - specifically our AD.

Yeah, tough to judge any specific players when the machine is so jacked.

-The first 30 seconds is how I watch the 1st half and the last 15 is the second half.

-Mitch was screaming for the offense to score late. Screaming/clapping like his future depended on it. I’ve never seen him even remotely animated until last night.

-You had Ware and Wheeler back talking more times than not. It’s a reality show that keeps me entertained more than the game now. Cal isn’t even remotely close to having control of his team. They do whatever the f* they want.

Back talking the coach or within the team? I did notice Wheeler putting his hands up a few times last night, ALA Oscar, after a made 3 by SC.

“I think he’s lost the players,” one head coach said after facing Kentucky this season. “Their offense is so shitty. He doesn’t run anything for their guards. He has no idea how to use Cason Wallace.”

“They should still be getting the best talent,” another coach added. “And they have enough talent right now to finish in the top three or four of the SEC.”

Sad Season 2 GIF by Friends

Cal tries to teach/explain and Ware/Wheeler typically have something to say/excuse. Toppin is like that too when he plays but last night he was a pretty dang good teammate. They don’t respect him as a coach. They may love him but they don’t respect him/what he’s saying.

It reminds of when your awful fraternity brother “coach” is trying to tell the team what to do during intramural games.

Sure, Calipari can still recruit at a high-level, but it’s far more frustrating for Big Blue Nation to watch talent wasted. Cal has pulled in 36 Top 50 recruits since 2015, and he’s put 18 players in the NBA over that span. For comparison sake, Kansas’ Bill Self has brought in 12 Top 50 recruits and coached nine NBA players since 2015.

But he hasn’t made a Final Four appearance. Over his first six seasons in Lexington, Calipari went to the Final Four four times. But he hasn’t been since 2015.

“The game has passed him by,” said one head coach.

I think that pretty much sums it up. He’s done less with more than damn near anyone I can remember in college. I also don’t understand the rationale of waiting on next years class. What makes anyone think it will be any different? Supposedly there isn’t a Wall/Cousins/Towns type player in that group so it will (probably) be more of the same. Tigers don’t change their stripes and Cal ain’t changing his either. Maybe 10 years ago he would have but it ain’t happening now.

- I’m just a fool waiting for that “where has that been all season” game. Sadly I thought it would be the BAMA game, but it seems it will more likely not happen now.

- I get the Oscar living off campus “shouldn’t” matter, but I could see that being an issue when these guys need to be galvanized, sitting around and figuring things out together he isn’t around.

Too cool for school. I hate it, but I also can see how that doesn’t help.

- Sounds like UK and UL have offered current Mr Kentucky Football a preferred walkon. Good to know.

- Dexon Dedman is tied to a ton of barrels that were made up in Minnesota somewhere and I have samples coming. I love that my guys call me with anything somewhat different knowing that’s all I’m after.

Really hope these barrels are good.

- This time last year I was in the hospital with Covid Pneumonia. It truly feels like it’s been years since that happened.

- Just found out my manager used all my connections to build him a new house and is almost done. I had no clue but he had been writing down everything sub I mentioned for a year before he started.

Gave me a thank you and a gift card for a nice dinner.

I’ve been itching to get in the construction business and build a spec home. Now I’m irritated I haven’t done it yet.

- 17 year anniversary in 6 days. 17 f***ing years, time flies!

Before her I don’t think I stayed with anyone longer than a few months.

Really weird when I sit back and think about it. She deserves better.

- Meeting Boat tomorrow to taste a few barrels I’ve been experimenting with. Might crack the Bookers bottle his group got me.

Arabs absolutely love Wrestling, TS

Is this really how it’s going to end with Cal? Like, seriously? What in the absolute f*ck happened. I know it seems like a decade ago but this time LAST YEAR we had arguably the best team in the country with like 60% of the same players, including key starters. Absolutely baffling and not a talent issue - something absolutely happened behind the scenes.

Like the end of Dazed and Confused. Cal refused to sign the pact to run a modern offense. He'd rather go smoke dope with his buddies and get tickets to the Sinatra Tribute Band at the Hollywood Casino in Lawrenceburg.

I'm going to start DVR'ing every game and only watching those 20 possessions before deleting the game.

Is it possible that he really may be f'ing with us? Information on best rotations is available on any statistic and data software. It's not some kind of complicated, analytical system. Hell, our staff can click a couple of buttons on Hudl and get that info in 5 seconds. Cal has to have seen that.

If his troll game is that committed:

1. He needs to GTFO immediately.
2. Kinda respect the spite.

Drummond and Rowland hitching their wagon to Barnhart so feverishly is odd. Must be connected to how they get their info.
But now locking threads because he was proven incorrect isn't the best look. What a mess. Please get me a new AD.

For a while I really thought he was just a stubborn SOB, but at this point I'm convinced he is trying to get fired and get his payday. That buyout would be pretty attractive for anyone, and if you're irritated with your current employer...

Cliffs? Something to do with JMI?
