GOLF thread

Monahan stepping down temporarily for health issue. No more details. Has 2 c-levels stepping in for now.

Professional golf is at a crossroads and I am concerned about it. PGAT buckled to the Saudi money publicly with little to no plan, LIV's future seems to be a (?), and the justice department might have all of them in the crosshairs.

This week should be fun, anyway...really cool course!

No, they didn't buckle to anyone or anything. Regardless, they now control the purse strings.
Sure they did, they refused to talk to the Saudis a couple years ago when approached, shamed their players for taking Saudi money, trotted out the 911 families, and used stars like Rory who had some moral backbone to fight their fight.

Then, when sponsors got maxed out and they got scared of what rocks might be turned over in discovery they buckled.

That's exactly what Norman would say....lol.

Cole is such a buffoon. He's ALL IN that this ordeal is a big ole nothingburger, and absolutely nothing has or will change, and that the PGA/Jay did no about-face or 'concession' whatsoever. He tries to argue on Twitter that it's not even a STORY! 🤣

The degree of delusion required to hold such an opinion is staggering.

There is a very small chance that when all the dust settles from this that Monahan does look like a genius. But, as he stated to the entire Tour staff earlier this week, he bears the responsibility for this decision to work with the Saudis and no one at the Tour works for the Saudis. He knows he betrayed everyone at the Tour and I'll give him credit for not trying to spin that otherwise.

But, dude totally took the money and forgot his morals and convictions along the way.

Btw, they had another update meeting and much like the deal with PIF, no one knows a f'ing that that is going on with Monahan right now.

Keep rambling little man. When all said and done you'll be eating more crow than you are now. Enjoy.

Sam Bennett is going to have a short career if he does not fix that swing. Way too much stress on his back. Will join Will Z who likely will never be the player he was just a year ago.

Tom Watson just sent an open letter to the PGA re the LIV merger, makes very interesting points and asks a lot of pertinent questions. Be interested to see the response, if any.

The plan B question is relevant. The 9/11 and other issues tied to "Saudi money" needs to go away. The PIF bank is tied to many companies we use daily, without so much as a whimper.....pretty much equivalent to how China goods are a staple for us, but we bury our heads in regards to their atrocities towards humanity. Our own Lexington economy has benefited from Saudi expenditures via Keeneland.

I can't relate to what the 9/11 families experienced and I do understand their views, however, my opinion is we can't put this venture at the forefront without bringing light to all of them.

Also...it isn't a merger.

It is just an agreement to agree so I think "what is plan B?" is a very good question.

So, I read that now that they agreed to drop suits, and assuming that has actually happened, under US law, they are not permitted to refile the lawsuits. So, if DOJ says no go to this agreement, back to square one and no more litigation. Seems like a win for the PGA.

Not sure if this applies to all the litigation, like any related to specific players, I assume not.

If you move the ball by accident but it returns to it originalspot or you as a player move it back, no penalty.

That is done all the time, especially in thick
rough. The rule does not say the ball cant move but if your club sets down beside the ball, it moves but then returns to it original spot, thats fine. Lets say it had rolled a foot but he didnt touch the ball, just place ball in original spot,no penalty.

Scotland recap, stayed in St.Andrew’s so really only played within a 2 hour radius. As a 10hcp, and strictly speaking on course quality and overall vibe here is my rating:

1-Kingsbarns - absolute must play, get caddies here

2- Gleneagles - Kings course, great course, tough

3- St. Andrew’s Old Course - caddies here recommended, worth the extra $$$, walking hallowed ground , just soak it in

4- Gleneagles Centerary - American course style/feel. Excellent condition
*** there are 3 courses at Gleneagles, kind of remote locale, would be worth staying in area and playing all three in 2 days

5- North Berwick - real gem on the coast, deceptively nice , great track

6- St Andrew’s New Course - probably a better course than the old course, I would say it is, just missing the major championship history

7- Crail —Balcomie - nice little par 69 on the coast , water views plentiful, fun track

8- St Andrew’s Jubilee, good course, also fun, but one course had to finish last. Would play again

Nothing here is cheap…. Cheapest round was 130 pounds, think about $145, caddies add 100 pounds, no reason to use them anywhere but Old Course and Kingsbarns. They offer the experience /tips, great history/stories. Weather can go from sun to pure shit in a minute, don’t buy cheap rain gear and never not have it your bag ( weather predictions are shit). True links golf can be a total mind ****, you need to be creative and really have an attitude of indifference, great strikes are not always rewarded. You literally could have to fight a 6 iron from 140 …. LOL, don’t fight it, embrace it !

Anyone planning a trip feel free to reach out. Amazing trip and very doable without paying the crazy money the tour companies demand.

CHEERS !

Working hard on my game this year, and taking some lessons, and lo and behold, my HCP index is melting. Which is a wonderful thing.

However, I am rediscovering what all improving players find out, the better you get, the more important putting becomes. Shot 79 yesterday, but had 31 putts and missed 5 or 6 makeable putts, had I made just 2 more putts, would have shot 77, a hell of a score for me.

What putting drills do you guys use to improve? Looking to shave a few shots off my score (aren't we all?)
