Evan Daniels on Giles at UK or Duke

Here's all you need to know about the choice of going to either duke or Kentucky if you have NBA aspirations:

Duke has 5 players in the league averaging more than 3 ppg.

Kentucky has 4 guards that play for the Phoenix suns averaging more than 10ppg.

Lol WHAT?!? Based off of what? 1-2 games???

:joy: C'mon man you sound like a child. (Unless you are then I truly apologize)

Fox and Monk would be just as good a 1-2 punch as Giles and Taytum if Giles picked dook. It all depends on how you look at it. There would be no better guard tandem in the country than Fox and Monk, but then there'd be no better big man combo in the country than Giles and Taytum.

Surely you don't seriously want to compare Dukies in the NBA right now with Kentucky guys?

I mean....SURELY you don't want to do that...

We can compare whatever you would like. I'm just pointing out that moronic statement he's trying to pass off as a seasons worth of stats lol

  2. If Duke lands Harry Giles, to go with Jayson Tatum, would there be a better 1-2 punch in college basketball in 2016?

Since I've covered recruiting there hasn't been a class w/ four top 10 players. Kentucky has a legitimate shot: Giles, Fox, Monk & Gabriel
UK's 2013 class had 4 in the Rivals top-10 (5 in the top-11). With Scout.com we just missed 4 in the top-10 by one, James Young was ranked #11.

We will get some and lose some, Calipari can get most of the recruits not all, I can live with that[thumb2]

I love this kind of stuff. Good job brother

Tampa, kind of ridiculous to be talking about averages after one game. Not to mention, given the poster in question, I'm not inclined to think he was joking.

Well, I assumed it was in jest, but if not, it is what it is.

His point, however ridiculous and perhaps dramatic it may have been, was just that Kentucky guys are having more success in the NBA right now, which I don't think is disputable.

That being said, I don't think Giles is under any allusion that if he goes to Duke, he won't go to the NBA.

He's going to the NBA no matter what.

He don't have to talk about one game. It is a fact duke players suck in the league. Irving is all they have. Star wise.

I think UK or Wake makes sense. Giles is from the Wake area - I doubt he spurns his hometown school for another NC school. I truly have always thought this makes sense. I want him at UK, but would MUCH rather him go to Wake than Duke...either is a win compared to him being a Blue Devil.

Yea and Irving only plays one side of the ball. Everything he scores he'll give right back with poor defense.

I don't know if I've ever seen 4 guys from the same college on the same NBA team. That's pretty remarkable.

Should we wait until the end of the season? Wanna guess All Star picks?

I don't think there's any doubt giles ends up at Duke, but don't be stupid and compare NBA success between Duke and UK players.

One game is a pretty huge sample size...
All of those players got more than 17 minutes.

Knight and Bledsoe are both starters. Booker played the 3rd most minutes.

The point (a point that you can't refute) is that in the past 10 years, calipari has had four #1 overall picks among his top 5 recruits and is putting players in the lottery that weren't even top 20 recruits (bledsoe, booker, wcs). These players are getting into the rotation on NBA teams and staying there.

Who was the last non top 20 recruit that K put in the lottery and how many #1 picks has he had in the past 15 years? His only #1 draft pick this millennium is the kid that played a grand total of 11 games for him.

Your facts were wrong. seven of the eleven Duke players who played last night met your criteria of "averaging more than three points per game." Errors in fact compromise not only the quality of the work in question, but ones credibility as a whole.

Doesn't meant anything but Giles just recently started to follow Fox and Isaac Humphries on twitter.

Duke has 5 players that have been drafted in the last 10 draft classes that have averaged more than 10ppg for their careers. This includes okafor's one game sample size. Only 2 of those players have averaged more than 12ppg. Absolutely ZERO of those players were ranked outside of the top 10 in their high school class.

UK has 10 players that have been drafted in the last 6 draft classes that average over 10ppg for their careers. Four of those players average over 15ppg.

Dang it man! I had just come to peace with him going elsewhere and you had to post that.

Does it mean anything? Probably not, but it seems like every time someone follows people from a specific team on Twitter before announcing, they end up going there. Diallo with Kansas and Murray with us come to mind. His chances in my mind just went from about 10% to about 20-25%.

So just know if I end up with a broken heart it'll be your fault and you'll have to live with that for the rest of your life.

A lot will depend on this weekend's visit to Durham. If he's not impressed enough, then all bets are off. Otherwise it'll be tough. I'm sure K and his staff will put on the full court press.

Yet why anyone picks a school other than Kentucky is beyond me.

Watching the nba last night, not just the laker/wolves game, but checking in to all the games made me realize how incredible of a job Cal has done. Just look at how many uk guys are teaming up in the league or going at it every night. And that is in 6 years. He has always preached doing it for these kids and their families. It is absolutely insane to me thinking about the 5 more years from now how many uk guys he could have in the league. This is where it starts to enter into guys that have played for him reaching the billion dollar level.
This stuff is going to get really crazy the next couple years. Wont be able to watch a nba game without seeing 2 or 3 uk guys on the floor at one time.

How about you go back to the last 15 and add boozer brand maggette and deng to that list. Sure our pros have not been as good as uk but it's not as bad as some make it out to be.

I don't think it's appreciated how important it is for a kid to feel comfortable at a school and hit it off with the players that are there or are going to be there.

Giles is best friends with Tatum, but who knows, maybe he visits Duke this weekend and K has bad breath, Vrankovic gives him the creeps, and Jeter seems like a real dick. You never know.

I have no inside info at all, but I just don't think u can count cal out of this one. I am intrigued by the fact Giles left the state of North Carolina to play his final season of high school basketball. In today's Information Age, does it matter that he go to a historical national power---for exposure? Just so he can go back to his home state to play college ball? That just doesn't make sense to me. He is the clear cut number 1 player in America! Does he need the exposure? He's not likely to lose any suitors regardless of where he goes.

I know duke has gotten players from oak hill. UK has as well. Steve smith is a native Kentuckian and has always spoken highly of UK. Did Giles leave his home state to avoid the backlash of picking UK? The move makes him closer to UK yet still close to family. Oak hill plays 9 games in ky this year---I believe. He leaves the UK visit and sets a commit date---without yet visiting duke? I dunno. Seems interesting to me. Cal keeps talking about 6'10 players playing small ball. Well, we now have 4-5 of them if Giles commits. I never thought we would get wenyen but cal did. He was considered a huge duke lean. Giles comes to UK midnight madness----a second time? Because he wants to go to duke? Giles may well b friends with Tatum , but both will be in the league in a year. Will they not be friends if Giles picks UK? Unlikely.

This boils down to a business decision for all of these kids! When simplified to that most basic premise, UK seems like the obvious choice for Giles! Jmo. Cal has created a fraternity atmosphere here at UK. I think Giles wants to be a part of that. Why wouldn't he?

Bridges did the same thing after his mich st visit, he started following a couple of their guys on twitter and later committed. I'm a little more hopeful now for sure.

I am predicting tears and waxing poetically about his angelic eyes.

Am I wrong to hope that he has a bad visit this weekend? Lol

I think we have a shot to get him but duke could seal the deal this weekend.
