Here’s how teams shot from 3pt range against us in our 5 conference losses:

TAMU 12-32
USCjr 11-24
Florida 10-26
Tennessee 12-27
LSU 9-20

If we played those games with the same defensive gameplan we did against Bama (force them off the 3pt line at all costs, even if it means giving up some easy points in the paint), we likely have one conference loss at most. As long as Cal plays the correct lineups, we simply score too efficiently for teams to beat us unless they go insane from deep.

I realize KU, Wilmington and Gonzaga are outliers, but imagine being 23-4 right now. We’d be in the 1 seed conversation. Even in the KU game, we win if we don’t give up two wide open 3’s to Harris at the end.

1. Pressure fullcourt not necessarily to force turnovers but speed up the game. Also gives our opponent a few seconds less to attack in the front court
2. Have guards attack ball handler in the front court. Bama had several turnovers due to this pressure and were forced to drive instead of looking for 3’s. Also helps us when they are trying to feed the post.
3. Perimeter defenders should not sag to help so much. Getting too deep allows kick out passes to open shooters.
