D-League

Good morning from ATX. Happily still counting myself amongst other upright walkers.

Have a good one

At least you're not "wine-ing" about it. Ohhhh! I'll be here all day. Actually, no I won't, I have an EKO on my heart at 0715 this morning.

Glad to see you still around too Austin. God Bless.

Ahead of Memorial Day I think this is something all you folks, especially the veterans, will want to read.

A quick aside: Yesterday a woman I know who is an accomplished Washington-based journalist called me to tell me that her father had been inducted into the Kentucky Journalism Hall of Fame, and while touring the building where it is housed she saw my plaque, unaware I was a member.

The fact that her father, John Fetterman, hadn't already been in the HOF was a travesty, because all would-be newswriters back when I was a kid grew up admiring his work. Here is a piece for which he won the Pulitzer Prize in 1968: The story of a young Kentucky kid killed in Vietnam being brought back to his hometown for burial:

I probably read that article when it was written. I remember reading John Fetterman's articles.

There are a thousand what ifs. You might be alive because you were standing a foot away. You were on a chopper today instead of yesterday. You made a mistake, but got lucky and the other guy didn't.

I can't play music except CD or phonographs et.al. but if I could a sax would be in the top three. Piano and guitar are the others.
The sax sound is so cool. Only reason he chose to play it is because older sister stopped playing & it was the instrument laying around the house. Family had bought 2nd hand for $120. LOL. He volunteered for the jazz ensemble which is where the solos were. Only four total solos. Goes to school early couple days a week to practice. Oh yea, I'm music & playing clueless.

Or like my former BIL not getting on that first helicopter but for some reason getting on the second. That decision saved his life.

MORNING LEGIONNAIRES!

64° this morning with a high of 82° expected.

Had the EKO yesterday and ask the person doing the EKO how it came out and he said that I will be told at the end of all of my testing's what the results are. Have had about 4 appointments so far, doctor's first direct checkup, an EKG (3 of them), and the EKO yesterday. Tuesday is the stress test. Not sure if that will be the final test before they tell me anything so...All of this since my March 2nd chest pains. Sure takes a while to get any real answers around here. I guess if there was any real problems, they would have already notified me (one would hope).

Stopped by my old office yesterday after the EKO appointment and my old co-workers were asking me when I was returning. There is a rumor that I was coming back to take the now vacant supervisor's position. "News to me" I told them. My last supervisor (before they hired the new guy when she took a higher position) was there helping out, and the next level supervisor was also, and they ask if was I ready to come back (semi-joking I now suspect). Apparently, there are some issues with taking care of the AIT (Advanced Individual Training) and BCT (Basic Combat Training) units with the current workers and issues with the CTO (Central ticketing office) and those workers. I told them before I left that the new supervisor they hired was the wrong hire. He is now in another job. He was/is a jerk and is the reason I retired at that time. They offered the job to me before I retired but, I had plans of retiring a few years after the hiring so, I deferred hoping they would give it to the lady who had been there for over 15 years and was very knowledgeable. Nope, so as soon as they hired the "Jerk" (apologies to Steve) I dropped my retirement paperwork.

Well, enough of that, Happy Friday to all of you (especially you grinders) and God Bless.

Good morning folks. Been wrestling with computer problems all day but finally up and running.

Beautiful day here in the east. Hard to set at this desk and see the glorious sun outside and know its cool with no humidity -- perfect for a long walk. Maybe after lunch I'll sneak away.

Enjoy the fish stories. I loved fishing as a kid and did my share through my 20s...then life just seemed to get too busy. I haven't been on a memorable fishing trip in 30 years. In my early 20s I worked for a guy in South Florida who had a pretty good sized fishing boat and we'd go out into the open ocean and catch Wahoo and Dorado up to 15-20 pounds or so. In my later 20s after I was living in the DC area we'd get a crew of guys and go out into the Chesapeake Bay. In the 80s and early 90s the Bluefish would swarm in schools in the fall and you could have 5-6 on different lines at a time, uniformly between 11-13 pounds. You'd spot gulls swooping on bait fish breaking water trying to escape the Blues, head the boat right into the birds and all the lines on the boat would snag a fish within about a minute.

From what I hear it's nothing like that in the Bay today.

Hello all,

I hope you are well. Been busy here, had a good time late last night. Then headed back to the bhgjnnb? Rbnb? Heck some of those letters...

Most of my activities are to observe and engage as required.... Ole grandpa has been required too. Was dancing several jig's last night playing...

Have a great afternoon...

Ought to be a Merle Haggard song in there somewhere....

I had actually picked up my guitar and was hardening my fingertips again before this trip but...

My brother in law was an excellent guitar player. He chewed his finger tips and then he would use a nail file to grind them down so he could feel the strings.

Several years ago, I was having spells where I passed out. They sent me to heart docs with all kinds of tests, including stress tests. I guess they figured heart problems were the most serious, so they wanted to go there first. Good heart, but still passing out. Then they sent me to a neurosurgeon who told me I had a growth on my brain and he wanted to do surgery. I told my family doc, if I'm going to have brain surgery, I want a second opinion from a top of the line guy. He sent me to Memphis to a world class guy (who knew and acted like he was extra special). He called the first neurosurgeon a clown and told me to go home and see an ENT, and quit wasting his time.

This had been going on for 2 years. The ENT knew right away I had Meniere's Disease, but did testing to confirm. It took a bit, but diet and plenty of water got it under control enough that the passing out stopped. It's just seeing the right doc at the right time.

Hello all,

Just settling down to be able to sleep. Threw the cat out, penned the dog up, and muzzled My Darling. (Now all knows this last sentence was a lie..)

Went to see where my son and I guess daughter want to build. (Both nurses for the VA.) Little do they know, Mom and Dad going to make it easier for them...

May your sleep this evening have sweet dreams.... God Bless you all....

My brother in law was an excellent guitar player. He chewed his finger tips and then he would use a nail file to grind them down so he could feel the strings.

Sir, that just doesn't sound right... But I guess it is, when I played classic guitar and some rhythm and blues, I had my fingers built up to where they had no callous, the interim to me playing again decently will take some hard fingertips. Not sure if I will get my "leather fingers" back... I did used to enjoy playing but life decisions took me away from maintaining the skill.

Just recently with our move we are able to join a couples bible study small group. My Darling and I want to contribute in some small way... I will give it the ole college try....

Good morning D-League. Another fabulous, cool clear and dry day in the east. I hear the heat’s on the way so I’m enjoying these days.

I’m glad you are getting to see your daughters today Austin.

My two youngest are back in the area and it is nice to have them around. My oldest, her husband and my two grandkids are off on a cruise in the southeast part of Alaska.

Watching some great blue herons and a snowy egret stalking some small fish in the shallows of a small lake. Hope you all are enjoying the day.

Good morning everyone.

We spent the day decorating my wife's family gravesites. Long day. But, I finally got a good nights sleep last night. It's been a few weeks.

Church setup in a bit, church, and then back home to enjoy this cool & dreary day inside.

Will we have a better idea of who our Wildcats will be by June 1st? I'm trying to stay positive, but geez.

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. If anyone has family, friends, or served with someone who gave all would you name them and tell a little about them here so we can recognize them.

Good morning all,

Heading back to Jacksonville in an hour or so for our trip back home. I have some pics I'll post when I can sit at my computer. Had a good time but My Darling and I will separate ourselves next trip in our travel and accomodations.... A bit much but that's another story for another day.

Enjoy your days...

Good Noon Legionnaires!

64° earlier this morning so, I went fishing. Fishing Report Follows:

Both good and bad report. Bad first: Bass won the day as I hooked 6 and only landed 2. No doubt there would have been personal best sizes today as the pull from a couple that got away rivaled the one pictured below.

The good: The one pictured below. 6.9lbs.
