Had never heard this, but reading today that two brother grandsons of Paul Revere were killed in the Civil War. One died early on in VA and one at Gettysburg after having been wounded twice seriously in earlier engagements. Were officers in same 20th MA Regiment, known as the Harvard Regiment. Both had graduated from Harvard. They were well off from the family copper business & probably could have bought their way out, but not fitting for a Revere.

Sorry this is late but, a BIG SALUTE to all those that served the military and gave their all and to all those that served.

Good morning from ATX. Currently 66°F and partly cloudy. Today's high expected around 88°F.

Enjoyed a great weekend with daughter. She's back home in Forge Ridge. I asked her about Rock City and was surprised to hear she'd never heard of it. We may visit nearby Lookout Mountain Flight Park over July 4th week for some hang gliding. I took one introductory lesson there back in 1982. Heh, at the time, my uncle Thomas owned a house (cabin) located on a pond not far away.

Wishing all a fine Tuesday.

MORNING LEGIONNAIRES!

64° this morning with moderate winds. High to be in the mid 80's

Going fishing again this morning at the local lake (Ellsworth) in Elgin. Have not had much success there in the past, but I have reconned a couple of different spots so...

This afternoon at 15:00 I have what I think is the final test in my heart series, the stress test. After that I have 2 ball games tonight starting at 18:30. Ribs still hurting from the last time I hit the ground so I am not sure how well I can perform. Last week they had to forfeit because without me they did not have enough, and this week is the final two games of the regular season so I will go in case they do not have enough so as not to forfeit. If they have enough, I will just watch.

Well, got to get going as it will be light shortly and I like to get to my spots at daybreak. You guys be careful traveling to work today and enjoy your day.

God Bless you all.

Good morning folks. Hope the long weekend was restful. Back to work.

Enjoyed the talk about the 20th Mass and the Paul Revere relatives above. That regiment had quite a history. Their first battle was at Ball’s Bluff across the Potomac River from the county where I live in Maryland, and I’ve walk it many times. They were stupidly led into ambush by a U.S. senator who was a close friend of Abe Lincoln and therefore given an infantry command. A Mississippi brigade hidden in the woods at the top of the bluff cut them to pieces. The senator —Edward Baker —was killed.

One of the young soldiers in the 20th was future Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. He was wounded seriously three times and it was a miracle he survived the war. Years later he said in a speech:

“When we were young our hearts were touched by fire.”

Those were great men.

Yeah, that battle was murder for the 20th Mass. As I recall, the ladies of Boston had outfitted the entire regiment with high-quality blue coats with a bright red satin lining. it was a warmish October day, so the soldiers had their coats open, and the red linings were as good as bullseyes for the Confederates.

It was a small battle early in the war - a skirmish by later standards. But for that one regiment from Boston it was a real slaughter. Bodies floated down the Potomac to the outskirts of Washington, DC. Lincoln mourned a close friend in Edward Baker for whom he had named his son. Congress held hearings, and a mostly blameless general, Charles Stone, got scapegoated out of the army. All he did was pass along an order from overall commander George McClellan to Baker. But Baker was a dead martyr and McClellan had strong political allies. So Stone was the fall guy.

Clearing debris in the house that seemed hit by a hurricane... Actually cleaning up some... Still at it, determining now if I am going to apply for disaster funding...

(Not slighting any who have gone through disasters (I have too.) but I thought it fit my situation in this new house....

Our kitchenette where I just installed the light fixture. (Had to get internet input to wire the thing as the new wiring was complicated to me for some reason but I got it working. I've done this plenty of times previously but it's been a while.)

MORNING LEGIONNAIRES!

67° this morning with a hint of a thunderstorm in the area. Blanked in Ellsworth fishing yesterday so, once again the local lake and me don't have a good history.

Played 2 games last night and lost the first one 15-5 because our team did not hit well. I went 2-2 in the first game however. Then, we won the second game 10-9 and I went 4-4 in that one. Had a good hitting night even though I took a little off of the effort. Since my ribs are still sore from the last games I could not swing as hard, so I adjusted my swing. May have found a better swinging technique (don't tell my wife). Those were the last 2 games of the regular season so, there will be no more games until the end of July when the State tournament begins. Will give my ribs a time to recover.

Not much going on today other than playing Mr. Miyagi this afternoon. Moved training of my student to the afternoon now for summer schedule because she will be training gymnast in the mornings now that school is out.

You guys enjoy your day and God Bless.

With sore ribs and adjusting swing, I'm guessing singles. That reminded me of this. Was it Ralph Kiner who said, home run hitters drive Cadillac's and singles hitters drive Chevy's? Though with what they get paid today, who knows what they drive.

Yep, all dinkers or grounders between the infield positions.

Have a restful evening all... Just got in, haven't even changed out of my work clothes. I guess it slows down when you die. No rush.

Went to a couples bible study tonight. The inaugural meeting (Four couples), I was the only one that had to go to work in the morning. One a retired Colonel, one a retired SGM, the other a medical type retirement of some sort but seemed a decent enough guy.

I am thankful.... God Bless you all,...

Good morning everyone.

Going on another group hike to Natural Bridge this morning. Most will be taking the sky lift to the top for the walk down. Not me, nope, not a chance. I'll take off and meet them at the top.

Wow, it's getting hard to stay positive about the upcoming team/year. I may need to find another winter hobby to occupy my time.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Good morning D League. Tough day for the Cats yesterday - Oscar and Livingston gone and Reeves refusing to commit while he extorts the program for more money. First -tell him goodbye. I’ve been on the fence since his 1-15 performance in the K-State loss. Then, take the Oscar pot of Money and come up with three older, competent guys out of the portal who are willing to be role players at a school like Kentucky for a million dollars on their way to the mid-level overseas ball ranks. About 18 out of the 20 starters in the Final Four will never have NBA careers. Kentucky doesn’t need a team with 10 guys who fancy themselves as NBA draft picks like Livingston, a 6’6” forward who can’t shoot or dribble but thinks he’s the next LeBron.

Beautiful day in the east. I’m heading out to work. Hope it’s a nice one for you all.

Good morning all,

Heading inside, sneaked a Walmart pecan pie in my dinner (One of those 75 cent pies that used to be 50 cents...) Amazing what I look forward to, and I am completing a huge deal today as well but the top priority is that pie...😁

Have a pecan pie day. God bless you all...

Cal is channeling his inner Norman Dale.

Really? Sorry I missed it.
Yeah. To me, they missed a big part -Dan Issel, who was the face of the Nuggets franchise for many years as an all-star player and coach. I have friends who grew up there, and he’s still a huge part of the Nuggets legacy. When you include him, both franchises have deep Kentucky roots and a strong Kentucky present.

Agreed. Issel spent many years as player and later coach for Denver, He led Nuggets to first-ever 1st round upset of #1 seed by a #8 back in '94.
