Good (late) morning from the beach D-League. Just spotted a pod of 5-6 Bottlenose Dolphin close in. Eight-nine footers. Beautiful, graceful animals. Inevitably so dope up the beach yelled “shark!” on spotting the dorsal fin. Lots of pelicans flying over.

Last night took the crew out to dinner. Near the end the manager came over and asked us if we’d change tables because they had to clear an area for the band playing later. Sure, why not? Then when we were finished the waitress said the manager picked up our $180 check. Not bad. Hope you all have some luck as well.

MdWildat55, my daughter does volunteer work for the Clearwater Marinne Aquarium that is actually a non profit rescue center for marine life . The most famous resident is Winter the Dolphin. They rescue marine life from the Gulf, rehab them to the point of being able to survive a release back into the wild. If you love marine life it is one of the best rescue operations going. Several movies have been made of the operation.

Sawnee, that sounds like really rewarding work. Congratulations to her for finding a meaningful vocation.

I lived in South Florida for a couple years right out of college in the late 1970s. My boss had a decent sized boat and he took a liking to me, so we’d go out fishing and just looking around on the open water. I loved seeing all the ocean life - turtles, dolphins, sharks. I was telling the story last night of coming upon a giant Manta Ray that, in my memory, was 12 feet across. (That’s my story and I’m sticking with it.)

Actually she is a volunteer and this is not her full time vocation. I guess it is more of a love or hobby. She lives in Ocala and comes down on the weekends to the aquarium. She loves animals and this is the perfect job for someone with a love for marine life. They rescue sharks, otters, sea turtles, pelicans, sting rays and other marine life that have been injured and bring them to the aquarium to rehab. For example Winter the Dolphin lost her tail when she was trapped and crabs ate it off. She has an artificial tail and can never go back to the Gulf. But there are others that are brought in they can be saved and returned to their natural habitat.

As far as your Manta Ray, I can vouch it is the truth. Manta Rays are often as big as 24' across so the 12 foot one is very common, especially in the deep waters. Rays are some of the oldest creatures on earth and were here before dinosaurs.

Now that is funny right there. I have been giving my daughter ( age13) $20.00 a week now for a few years based on school performance and house hold chores being done without a fuss. A's a must for school. She has missed a few payments but, has gotten most of them. She has over $2000.00 last time I counted and that was a while back.

When out and about shopping and not a special occasion and she see's something she wants she has to buy it. So far, when it is more than $20.00, she will not buy it most of the time. She is very frugal with her money. There is another motivation for me as well, while she has not to this point been in to stylish clothes, she is starting to begin to take notice of them. I told her a while back, if you want the expensive jeans or what ever, you must foot half of the price. So far that is working out but, I fear that will not last much longer.

I bought some smoking wood from Bourbon Barrel Foods that were actual staves from a used barrel. Being a Kentucky boy I bought that marketing gimmick hook, line and sinker. Expensive and not worth it. No real distinct taste that we could discern.

Bummer. The lump has enough of a smoke flavor for me. Sometimes I add wood for flavor but not often.

For those of you who might not know. NASA has a site where you can plug in your location and it will tell you when the space station will be over your location. Good activity for the kids,
grandkids or if your the kid

Spot the Station

I've checked it out many times.

Sounds like the inter-stellar has been awaken in the D!!!!!

I've got Sky Map on my phone. It seems to be pretty accurate. I love the universe with a universal love.
