D-League

One day as cashier at DG a guy came through that had a company shirt on that I observed. I asked him the location and what they did. They extracted hemp oil from the plant. I said Fascinating. He invited and I took a tour today. Yep, fascinating. Might try some sometime. But I was a bit giddy in the lab. Love to manipulate some chemicals and sling some glassware along. I can smell some fragments now. Ahhh. FCC/.

Just horrible news, happened yesterday. I drive by it everyday on my way to work plus all 3 kids will graduate from there (USI).

Some guy forgot to drop his 3 yr old off at daycare in the morning and didn't realize it until he went to pick him up in the afternoon....he was in the car all day.

Sorry to bring everyone down..., yeesh.
Couldn’t like your post hon due to content. but I will comment
I don’t know how the HELL anyone could forget their child in a car
And telling people to put something “valuable” in the back seat to remind you? Seriously???????
What is more valuable and precious than your child?

Please forgive the language...I’m usually quite mild with my words as several here can attest :sunglasses:

This happens way, way to much across the country. Occurs several times a year here. And you are correct that there is no excuse ever to justify exposing childen or even pets to such a hazardous life threatening situation. It doesn't take long to kill. Laws have criminalized this in Arizona. With passerbys allowed to bash car windows to rescue trapped children or pets.

I honestly don’t care if it’s allowed or not
I’m going to smash that window and gladly pay the penalty
There is never EVER an excuse

Agreed. I need to buy one of those small snap tools that will break auto glass. Anyone know where I can get one? I would use one of my ALIEN "tools" but I don't want to freak anyone out that might see me using it...:flushed::alien:

Nice! You are the proud owner of a Manx. The color is Seal Point. (I used to breed cats in a time gone by)

Yeah, wife and daughter have searched the internet and this cat already has them hooked. Problem is, dogs are not happy. Pyrenees mix is in war mode. Her breed is very protective and we have a battle on our hands right now. I have the cat in a big cage in the computer room with windowed doors so, dogs are viewing but not getting close. Wife and daughter in computer room playing with cat now. Going to take some time getting dogs on board.

I thought the same thing, how? I just can't imagine. Only consolation is that the child is in Gods arms now.

I just cannot for the life of me understand how in the **** can an adult let this happen. Truly horrible.

Prayers for #5. Gonna be tough I know but this too shall pass as grandma would say. . Prayers for as little pain as possible with an ordeal like this.
Thank you for your prayer for my little guy. He is back in his room now and asleep. Bless his heart. He'll be getting sore by the time he wakes up. His mother is with him. TLC. I'll go by and look in on him in the morning.

Yes, toys & play will temper the response. The Pyrenees senses predator and correctly so. The pradigm shift is to pack mate. No small order but not impossible. As appropriate, introduce the secured (leashed dog) into their play space to observe wife, daughter and cat interactions of affection, play and feeding. Make a toy (cane pole with badminton birdie on a line). Flip the bird, and play. with cat in dogs presence. Tensions will ease. The kitten will adjust quickly. The Pyrenees will pick up on this and may even adopt the kitten as part of his flock. Reward good behavior with hot dog treats. Your animals, like children need adult behavior and naturally want to please you. The Perenees, right now sees this.

I was going to tell him that it was not a feral cat. It probably came to your area via a car or truck. I had a manx one time and it was the coolest cat of all. You haven't seen a house cat leap until you've seen a manx.

The porch is officially closed in as of today. I spent 11 hours out there in up to 104° heat index.

It was hot when I went out there at 0930. I've still got to do all the trim work and build the furniture but that is for another day. Or forty.

We worked for a couple of hours and then stopped for lunch. I fired us up a couple of smash burgers in a cast iron skillet on one of those newfangled induction burners. It's magic and hot as hell in a very quick manner. Romain lettuce, tomato, real cheddar cheese, butter toasted cheapass buns. Mmmmm! They looked like the picture on the menu.

Yeah, she has been with us longer than the rest and is the the first line of defense. I have been giving her a lot of attention tonight to keep her calm. The picture below shows what kind of baby she is.

That dog will do whatever you want as soon as she knows . . . Play play play as family pack when safe to build the team. You got this.

edit: When that vet checkup occurs have him (her) scan for a microchip. Might be some little girls lost kitty. Never know. No chip then enjoy your treasure. Either way win-win.

We have been combing the local sites for lost and found pets too.

Good Thursday Morning D League

We are expecting a nice day with temperatures from 75° to 84°. We dodged Named Storm Barry which passed by on it's way to the Gulf. Weather girl said it may strengthen to a hurricane.as it heads up to New Orleans.

Meanwhile I have a lot to do around here and best get busy. A few more cups of coffee and I will be rarein' to go. Trust all have a great day.

Good morning D-League. Oppressive, muggy, ugly, damp day in DC.

The living-like-a-hobo fun of having the civilizing influence of my wife and daughter out of the country is wearing thin. My son, who in his defense is working 12-14 hour days, has reverted into a cave dwelling savage -- though I've never seen a cave as filthy as his room. And he's rubbing off on me more than the opposite.

And I aggravated my bum knee running to catch the subway this morning. The day will get better, I'm sure.

Horrible stuff above about the toddlers left in cars. About ten years ago, the Washington Post did a massive story called Fatal Distraction (I'd link it but all their stuff is behind a pay wall.) Their writer spent a year going all over America interviewing people who'd done this -- I think it must have been nearly 20 he talked with. And after reading the whole thing, the efforts to make me sympathetic failed. All I was left with is a puzzle about the human brain that I already had.

Even worse - and I know this story was linked in a thread on this board -- the grandfather who dangled the 1.5 year old out the 11-story window of a cruise ship early this week - and basically dropped the kid. What kind of imbecile lets a kid within ten feet of an open window above a 110-foot drop?

The cat is in their territory. I don't blame them.

Rome was not built in a day, nor will Ymmot's porch be built in a week! :grimace:

Unwelcomed the cat would not stand a chance. That is an impressive dog.

Morning D.
Thirsty Thursday
Not much going on ... hopefully.
Got most of the yard mowed, should be able to enjoy the weekend now.
Check back later.

But the grass is mowed. Mine must be mowed today unless I can talk my self out of it.

I see where the President signed an EO to assist in the treatment of kidney disease which is something I welcome. My father died of kidney failure and this disease hits close to home. Daddy was a fighter and was fortunate to have a doctor who set him up with home treatment. It fit daddy's independent style because he wanted to be in control, even his dialysis.

I understand part of the executive order will focus on more home treatment which is something I support. In the last month or so of his life daddy had to go to the clinic for his dialysis treatment and he hated every second of it. He could not stand being tied down with tubes and dependent on someone for his basic care. Once when I was with him he said he did not want to be hooked up to any tubes on his last days on earth and made me promise I would not allow it. I agreed and am thankful to say I was able to see that his wish was granted. No tubes and no breathing machine. Just a peaceful pass to the other side of the river. .
