D-League

Ymmot, the way you describe retirement makes me determined to hang onto a rung on the work force ladder as long as possible.

I hope all is well with the D-Leaguers, including any as lazy when it comes to home improvement as I am.

Please note that he "goes back in the house" quite often and goes to piddler malls a couple of times a day. Remember, he's been working on that lan, uh, screened in porch, since that last snow melted.

Rental car turned in. I rode the bus back here to the house. Now it's time for sorting and washing clothes from the trip. We're at 90°F with 59% humidity. I hit a helluva rainstorm in West Memphis, Arkansas late yesterday afternoon. ATX also received some rain yesterday. We've experiencing another "wet" summer, as in no triple-digit days yet. But humidity makes up for it.

Back later. Behave.

Since this is mostly a no cussing thread (when not drunk) I offer this list as an alternative for those days we learn that a recruit ain't coming.

I've got quite a day ahead of me. Have to get everything off the porch, take up the base boards around the perimeter, pressure wash the entire patio, mow the grass, weed eat. All that is in preparation for tomorrow when we're supposed to put the last coat of sealant on the roof, lay the carpet, and hang the screen. Whew!

Got my part done today. Wasn't that bad. Moved 24 cedar planks 1x6's 8 feet long but I spread it out and just took 3 at a time over a 2 hour period.

Question: If it took ymmot31 2 hours to move 24 boards, how long would it have taken him if he was 42?

Love to see some pictures of the finished product. All of that hard work needs to be shared in pictures with the group. It sounds fantastic

I'll get some up here when the time is right.

Going to leave a big hole in your life for sure.

No doubt. I stayed busy today. And drank beer.

So says the guy with the fancy-schmancy lanai.

I wasn't thinking about that. I'll show pictures when I get my solar powered salt water olympic sized natatorium.

I'll have it ready before the first football game. Plan on tailgating there.

And won't send us photos of it.

I sent you personal pictures. To your phone. All you had to do was click on them.

Morning Legionaires! (Waits for customary reply) This mornings topic: What to do?

Not a cat fan, (Kittens, cats, feline's) but wife and daughter have always wanted one. Have fours dogs and would be difficult to introduce one at this point but, Monday morning as I was enjoying my wake up juice, I heard tiny meows coming from outside my front door. When I opened it this small kitten was sitting there looking at me. When I approached it arched its back, hissed, then almost fell over. It was very weak and sickly. I sat down in front of it and talked to it then got up got it some water and tuna. After eating it let me pet it and then it went into the bushes in my front yard. It has been here three days now and my wife and daughter have taken a shine to it. We have looked around the local pet lost and found news and no mention so far. Taking to Vet Friday afternoon to get it looked at. Daughter has given it a name: Manx since it looks to be a cross between a Manx and a Siamese.

Good Wednesday Morning.

The word for today is wet, wet, wet. Wasn't there a band by that name? Well people are worried too much rain will hurt the hemp crop.
So we can expected scattered showers with a temperature range of 73° to 84. Today's bad news is the scallop season is not producing as much as last season. For scallop lovers like me that is not good. But not too worry, fish and game say that is normal and just the way it goes. Next year is another year.

Trust all have a nice day.

Good morning D-League. Grinding away at the job while my wife and daughter continue the grand tour of Italy - the villas of Tuscany today, Rome yesterday, the beaches of Cinque Terra tomorrow, etc...Something feels wrong about this picture...

I see Rip Torn died. Always enjoyed his brand of humor. Many don't know he was kin to Sissy Spacek, and helped her get started in the Picture Bidness...

You are not getting the best of that deal. Wife and daughter vacationing in Italy and you are grinding away trying to make a dollar.

I really enjoyed the career of Rip Torn. My favorite character was his role in the movie Cross Creek, it is one of my favorite movies of all time and one we like to show our out of state guests when they come down. The movie is based on a true story and he plays it better than anyone I can imagine. Solid performance.

  • Good Morning, Wildcats. 77º in Johns Creek. Hazy. IFR Probably.
  • Hope y'all are doing well on this Hump Day.
  • Today is #5's day to for an operation to correct his bite. The operation is to begin at 10 bells. Fingers crossed for him. It's a 5 hour deal. Can't chew for 4 weeks.
  • Take care. Be safe.
  • Carry on.
  • As you were.
Prayers for #5. Gonna be tough I know but this too shall pass as grandma would say. . Prayers for as little pain as possible with an ordeal like this.

Something to contemplate.

They passed an ordinance in the town they said we'd have to tear it down
That little old shack out back so dear to me
Though the health department said its day was over and dead
It will stand forever in my memory

Don't let them tear that little brown building down
Don't let them tear that precious building down
Don't let them tear that dear old building down
There's not another like it in the country or the town

It was not so long ago that I went tripping through the snow
Out to that house behind my old hound dog
Where I would sit me down to rest like a snowbird on his nest
And I'd read that Sears and Roebuck catalog

Oh I would hum a happy tune peeping through the quarter moon
As my daddy's kin had done so much before
It was in that quiet spot daily cares could be forgot
And it gave the same relief to rich and poor

Don't let them tear that little brown building down
Don't let them tear that precious building down
Don't let them tear that dear old building down
There's not another like it in the country or the town

Now it was not a castle fair but I could dream of future there
Build my castle to the yellow jackets drone
I could orbit round the sun fight with General Washington
Or be a king upon a golden throne

It wasn't fancy built at all we had newspapers on the wall
It was air-conditioned in the wintertime
Oh it was just an humble hut but its door was never shut
And a man could get inside without a dime

Don't let them tear that little brown building down
Don't let them tear that precious building down
Don't let them tear that dear old building down
There's not another like it in the country or the town

Just horrible news, happened yesterday. I drive by there everyday on my way to work plus all 3 kids will graduate from their (USI).

https://www.14news.com/2019/07/09/usi-childrens-center-closed-due-medical-emergency-involving-child/

Some guy forgot to drop his 3 yr old off at daycare in the morning and didn't realize it until he went to pick him up in the afternoon....he was in the car all day.

Sorry to bring everyone down..., yeesh.
This happened in Georgia a few years ago except the father murdered the child. He was having an affair and wanted out of it all. Kill the child by allowing it to burn up in a car in the hot Georgia sun and divorce the wife for his "sweetheart". He is in a Georgia prison for a long time and I hope it is for life.
