D-League

Good afternoon to the D-League, beautiful day in beautiful Lone Oak a small piece of Paducah. Flood gates still in place for a while longer. Haven't been on the D in days. I had a KY friend from Arkansas come and spend 4 days watching the tournament with me. My wife has been to Omaha to see our daughter and grandson. Now on her way Home!

My friend Bill is on his way to the Villle to see his brother. My wife is afraid I| might
fall again. I don't think I can stand another one. Well I'm 66 now but my back is in terrible
shape. On the 23rd of April I'll have 3 vertebrae replaced. Another section has 3 more that has fused together. Discussion on the bone-fusion is he can't touch that and after viewing the Cat scan.

I'll eventually catch up on likes, I'm behind a lot right now. Like ever body else I'm still getting over our loss to that sweaty pig.
Will be talking about other topics soon.
I invited my friend to join us when he returns to Arkansas.
Blessings to all I'll and you too Bert.
I'll be back as often as possibly, take care all!
?..Has GostVol been bye.

That looks really good.....a little piece of paradise on earth.
Since it is almost supper time let's carry the Cuban bread and sandwich a little deeper. Cuban bread was "invented" in Tampa (Ybor City), Florida, not Cuba or Miami. Tampa's Ybor City also claims the invention of the Cuban sandwich. Cuban bread was invented at La Joven Francesca Bakery in 1895. It sold for 3 cents a loaf and was delivered to houses. The residents had a large nail in their doorframe and the delivery boy hung a loaf on the nail. Cuban bread was suppose to be eaten the same day it was baked. The sandwich was named a Cuban sandwich because of the bread. Lard and palm leaves was key. People say you can look all over Havana, Cuba and not find a Cuban sandwich. It is American. It first started appearing in Ybor City around 1900 and made its way South to Miami.

I am so hungry now I might go out and get me one. Fresh and hot and pressed. There all over the place around here and sold on the side of the road. Freshly made. I like mine pressed.

I walk in your shoes railroadkat. My back is a train wreck due to spinal stenosis and I have had 4 back surgeries. I have titanium rods holding my lumbar spine together. Of course you have constant pain and numbness but I refuse to let it get me down. I have never taken narcotics though the doctors would give me as much as I want. When I had surgery they gave me a morphine pump for pain but I did not use it so they took it out of the room. At my age I am just going to ride it out until they put me in the ground. If they dig my bones up in about a 1,000 years somebody is going to say, that boy sure had him some back problems. Yes he did. My prayers are with you. Keep in touch D-League needs your talent.

Good to hear from you RRKat. Don't worry with the "likes". We're just glad you are back. (No pun intended) Take care of that back and don't fall again.

Thanks for taking the time out to share the history of the Cuban sandwich. A good Cuban sandwich is one of life’s food pleasures and I hope you were able to enjoy one this evening for supper

Thank you so much Sawnee Cat and Ben. Every time it reaches this level I Pray. Jesus died on the Cross for sinners like me. I'll never reach the levels of pain he had period. So sorry to hear about your back. I hope I'm not breaking any rules but FCC is another that suffers back problems. You know if I've said the wrong story you can punch me without any reaction from me. FCC is a good friend. We remember playing competitive baseball before we had driver's license You couldn't get a ball past him at short-stop and I caught everything he threw to first base, Glory Day's.
Thanks for the kind remarks that meant so much.

KYBound GoCatsdotUK UPDATE: scheduled the movers today. Plans of selling 2nd car in motion + had brief inventory w the belle on what we wanted to bring w us so I can sell the rest before we leave.

Just gonna go thru craigslist with a Moving/Estate Sale (B.A.O) 5 Days ONLY!!!

-figure we could get away w a 19-footer VS the 1.5 25-footers it took to move here. F'd up thing about that move was I sprained my knee 20-mins into it, worked my ass off that day but was a bit hobbled.

Anyone ever tow a vehicle w a 19-footer? Not really looking forward to it...BUT I will be completely fine around the 20th mile of our move once we pass the Illinois line and get THE FVCK OUTTA MISSOURI and Come Back Home!!!!!

The tourney playing "My Ole Kentucky Home" after our 3 wins this year*...just got both of us "misty eyed" airytime!!!!

See you all soon, again...gcduk

*I am completely happy w our season today, just wished our incredible team this year could move into lore, alas. RT, PJ, Herro et al were a helluva club, loved watching them when they were on fire: UL, UNC, etc. Best team in the nation then imo.

I love a good Reuben and one of the best I have ever eaten was at a place you wouldn't think would have a very good one and that is Keeneland. They have a great Reuben on the 2nd floor down toward the first turn.

KT's off Lexington Rd. (Lou) has an amazing rueben + killer shrimp alfredo!!!! Haven't been in 9+ years....not sure theyre even open anymore?

Good morning from ATX. Currently a chilly 42°F and clear. We could see 70°F later. Nice.

Second day after a loss is much better than the first.

Later on, I'll post pictures of a couple Cuban sandwiches I've enjoyed down over the years in FL. Those things are wonderful.

We'll check back later. Y'all behave.

Good morning! Adventure day with Dad coming up.

Might split a cuban with him today.

Playing golf tomorrow, more appropriately, I'll be getting played by golf tomorrow. At least I know I'll do better than last week.

Summer basketball should be starting up in a few weeks. Since it's played indoors in a climate controlled environment, I see no reason why they can't play year round. Come to think of it, they do play year round. Why not televise it and have a summer tournament just before the regular season kicks off?

Absolutely agree. Eat maybe 2-3/year.

When I do...I savor 'em.

btw you into gyeros? Its the cucumber sass my friend...the cucumber sass lol
I do like a good gyro. I live a few hours from Tarpon Springs and this little Greek Village has some fantastic Greek restaurants that serve some of the best. Plus they are in most sandwich shops around here. Another thing that is common is the Falafel which is my wife's favorite. The food that Jesus ate. My favorite falafel sandwich is made with cucumber sauce and a slice of cucumber with the falafel I pretty much like all Mediterranean style cooking. that is why I enjoy Cuban / Spanish style food. It has the olive oils and spices that give it that Mediterranean touch.

Good morning D League

We have a current temperature of 62° and some clouds with a 20% chance of rain. The high will be 72° in mid afternoon. The rain will be good for our lake which is down a little.

Today is a piddling day. Need to go over to Lowe's and pick up a few things that I need for a few house repairs. Nothing major, just maintenance. I am still sorry for our loss but it does not sting like it did when I was a young man. I have lived through 8 National Championships so the good Lord has blessed me. But still losing those over the years we should have won does leave it's mark. Glad to see Coach has a lifetime contract. I doubt Adolph Rupp got that. Rupp even complained about not having a parking space at his Memorial Coliseum office. The parking lot behind the Coliseum was where I was assigned to park when I was a student (Lot C then) I don't know if Rupp had a marked space but I do know we understood where the Cadillac would be parked and everyone avoided that space. I saw Coach Rupp often on campus and he was very friendly. I remember one time I was walking by and we greeted each other then he said,, "how are things going and do you write mom and dad" He said that was important and if I didn't, do it. The man was nothing like he was portrayed in the national press. If you think Kentucky basketball was not hated back in those days, I have news for you. It was. That has not changed, we are still hated.

Yes, you can see it in the media, the seedings, the officiating, the opposing fans, etc. Our love for the Cats is passed down from generation to generation. Unfortunately, the hatred of others is too.

I wonder if Herro likes a good gyro?

The best Reuben that I ever ate was in my kitchen cooked from scratch by Ymmot. Even the mayo was home made by him.

Thanks for the thoughts railroadkat.

Bad backs are a pain just above the ass! :flushed:

As we age we pay for the sins of youth. I ran track, played football (5'10" 135 pounds) and basketball. I got kicked in the nose in football. I was a spelunker and fell into a pit and screwed up my right knee. I built crap around my house and beat my left thumb up because of my bad aim. I smoked for about 20 years. I paint my own house and have fallen.

Because of my sins I now have experienced:

Appendicitis 1975
Gal bladder removed 1980
Nose reconstructed
Two knee surgeries
One knee replacement
One open heart surgery
No cartilage left in ankles
Left leg 2” shorter than right from breaking femur.

Once you stop you are finished, so one must push forward and never give up until there is no more push left.

Got us a German restaurant on the west side...Gerst Haus...makes a great Rueben sammich.
Bert, was it around during your E'ville days? ....on Franklin St.

It used to be an old Hardware store for years.

I actually think I remember it.

Evansville has some great places to eat. One German Restaurant on the north side on Highway 41 was wonderful also, I can't remember the name.

Bert, I was also 5'10" and weighed 135 when I graduated. I was a lightweight (135 lbs max) when I fought in the Golden Gloves tournament in Knoxville in 61 and 62.

I have never eaten Cuban but have decided to give it a try soon if I can find a place.

When I read about some of you guys" ailments, especially rrkat's, I thank the Good Lord that I have no aches or pains at all. Hope it remains that way until the old ticker takes me out..

Good morning D! What a beautiful morning here in the Berg!!! Sunny with the temp at 47 going to surge o 60!!! I am getting that metal detecting itch!!!! We walked yesterday 3 times around our block yesterday, trying to prove to myself that I am getting stronger in both my new hips! For those who are having older age pain I pray for all of us!!!! I got kneed in the back playing softball over 40 years ago, x-rays showed a small crack in the bone and I think I am paying for it now. Going back out to walk in a bit but I have to get rid of all I drink before I head out!!!! 4 glasses of water, one glass of cranberry juice and 4 or 5 cups of coffee!!! Takes a bit to drain every thing back out!!!!! One more thing I like about the D is the language else where! Thanks for keeping it clean D!! Everyone have a great day! Going to try to change carburetors on my weed eater, wish I had paid more attention to my dad when he did things like that! Miss him and Mom all the time! I wish I still had them, but not the way they left this earth! They are better off in HEAVEN and are with my brother who we lost 52 years ago!!!!

If you ever get to Tampa,Florida you must go to this one. It has been operated by the same family since 1905. It a historic landmark and the menu has not really changed in over 100 years. The one in Ybor City is the original one and also the largest Spanish (Cuban) restaurant in the world. In my opinion none is better. Atmosphere, food and culture is all authentic. The food is not only delicious it is beautiful and the presentation is superb. They make the salad at your table and also the sangria. Right before your eyes.
