"NO ONE has contacted the Knicks on my behalf. I am the coach at Kentucky and will be for a long time! Even in Egypt I can’t escape the rumors. Are you kidding me?! It’s 5 in the morning and this is what I wake up to? Off to go see the pyramids in a bit. And by the way, I like my team. And my USA Basketball too!"

So now we need to figure out which school/coach started this and get them hammered for it. Has to be one of the 4 I mentioned using that douche to start rumors to screw with our advantage over in Egypt.

Hit a nerve?

The point was you have a connection from where you got a degree. If you didn't experience that then you can't comment on anyone's situation about fandom.

You also need reading comprehension. I do root for UK and grew up here. How hard is that to understand? It's like you didn't comprehend a single thing that was previously written.

You can gladly eat a fat one too.

I comprehended plenty of your posts on the UL board. No nerves hit, just calling it like I see it. If you root for UK and also some random no name school you graduated from, why suck up to UL fans on their board? Your opinions on this board are also pretty questionable.

Not sure why this is so hard for some to believe. The guy works pretty darn hard, for a pretty demanding fanbase. It's not outside the realm of possibility to think he may like a less stressful job.
Going into that mess and the NYC media would not be less stressful. Cal has it easy at UK compared to that.

The only responsible thing for UK fans to do is leave him slightly impolite voicemails. Get to work BBN.

Edit: need to clarify: Ian Begley, not Cal.

Espn really is the cnn of sports reporting, just crap stories based off rumors with no real sources all the freaking time. Shameless.

What happened to the days where they required reporters to actually have legitimate sources before the newspapers or news channels would report on a story? Now it is more like the National Enquirer. Just make up stories and hope one of them eventually is right.

It's pathetic. News organizations are just machines now with zero maintenance or oversight. CNN and ESPN are the same, pump out whatever garbage that fits their view and get clicks and ratings, the truth be damned. The sad part is a large portion of America has a view of the world around them through the lens of fake news because they hide behind an old establishment network news name.

Coach K's buddy trying to create uncertainty in recruits minds....cough, cough, Reddish

You left Fox off the list and everything you said is both accurate and also applies to them. They just do it through your lens, so it's cool. I get it. I'm not trying to pick at you or start an argument. Just adding balance. I actually agree with your take completely. I just included all MSM not just the libbys.

As someone with a (worthless) journalism degree who has previously worked a decade in print media in small to mid-size markets, my take on media these days is it's gone downhill rapidly thanks in part to:

A) Infotainment cable news where "opinion" and "news" are intertwined. For example Hannity and Maddow both report on the news of the day while interjecting their personal opinions. Their opinions are then taken as facts by people who don't know any better. If you're going by the book, that's highly unethical. But neither person or network cares about ethics. It's about ratings, ad revenue and making as many green backs possible. News used to be stuff the public "needed" to know and verified for accuracy for days or weeks at a time. Now, it's spun through the filter of stuff our readers/viewers "want" to know, which results in slanted coverage aka pandering to the base.

B) Talk radio is the right-wing equivalent to the left-wing TV game. It's dominated with one belief system and most of the hosts are over-the-top personalities who are good at riling people up - good and bad. They get a reaction. Kind of like pro wrestlers. They also mask opinion as news at A REALLY LOUD VOLUME. It's entertaining for sure, but hardly informative.

C) Social media is a cesspool of mis- and disinformation and both political sides are guilty of spreading it. Morons fight in half-truth memes in comments sections. DeplorableSteve battles SnowflakePierre. Some sites peddle stuff so preposterous (Occupy Democrats, ConservativeTrubune for example) the average person should know better, but the stupid one doesn't and it spreads like wildfire and lies become facts after a while. (Obama hung Muslim drapes. Trump raped a kid. Hillary ran a sexy pizza shack. Remember those?)

The real problem with news organizations today, IMO, is nobody verifies claims for accuracy and then re-checks them to make extra sure. It's all about being "first." Gotta get that scoop. It applies to Cal/Knicks right now. I'd prefer news organizations be more concerned with being fair and correct. Journalism can be done correctly, but as long as red/blue partisans refuse to accept negative news about their preferred ideology, it doesn't really matter. People will believe what they want and yell "FAKE NEWS" or "FAUX NEWS" at anything they don't want to hear.

tl;dr Media sucks because of cable news, talk radio, social media and wingnuts. Nobody verifies anything in order to be first like this Cal/Knicks story.

Strange take, I don't think any of our fans would like another title

That's clever, but you might want to think about that. We get it, you're saying that obviously all fans want another title. And you're correct. But I see more and more fans recently taking the same pride in "draft day" as Calipari.

I didnt include fox because its by far the most accurate of the cable news networks and I only mentioned CNN, the network that just ADMITTED that they are basically fabricating news for ratings. That came from the boss. Even Van Jones said the Russian conspiracy is a "nothing burger", a hoax. Fox has never perpetrated such unethical journalistic behavior. Fox really doesn't lean right as much as people believe. Chris Wallace is the toughest hard news guy in the business. Bret Baer is real hard news. Sure youve got Hannity, who's the only registered conservative news opinion show on cable. Do away with him theres only one side left on the table. Fox is about to go more moderate anyway, Murdocks boys are raging progressives. Funny you call what you're arguing "balance". Without Fox there wouldn't be a moderate or right leaning voice anywhere on cable TV. That's not balance.

As for talk radio, the reason its dominated so heavy is because liberal radio failed miserably. Air America went bankrupt as soon as they started. Maybe if the left cared more about real Americans and not globalist propoganda it would be different. Talk radio is a different animal that shouldn't be conflated.

You are misunderstanding the media. It's not about being "first". That stopped over a decade ago. It's about dominating the narrative. As CNN just said themselves, push the agenda. We know for 100% fact now that they have no credible evidence yet they force their anchors and heads to keep pushing the Russian conspiracy. (not to get totally political, just an alarming example)

The real problem with the media in large is they are activist. Mostly all alt-left leaning (not traditional liberalism), and that goes from the top down.

I am a politard and I apologize for myself.

KyUps is a strange one. I say that not because of his positions, but because years ago he was a huge pumper. I had a few run ins. Total flip.

Multiple personality disorder? Honestly it's like someone else is using that account. Enjoyed the pumper much more. Just strange.

I love how Cal just swats these rumors down left and right. He really was made for this job.

Cal in the news long after the season, and a week after the draft. Extension and raise coming next.

Interest doesn't have to mean that he's gone, it just means he is interested. Why wouldn't he be interested in running a pro team?

New York, Cal, and the talent cal would be able to assemble has the making of something big time. Making the Knicks relevant and bringing some star power back to the eastern conference...yeah, I would be interested in that.

At the very least he's interested in keeping his name out there in relevant conversations because that helps him with recruiting and getting more money here.

Not trying to start an argument cause you are obviously at least somewhat intelligent as a postet but do you really see this ? I see lots of people mention the significance and importance of it- but never (cept for obvious UL/ other team fans posing as uk fans ) seen anyone actually say that ...

I cant think of any UK fan I know or have seen on here think that a title is less important or imperative than "draft night "

The argument that you must attend the University to have a special "understanding" or "connection" to a sports team is flat out bullsht. I played baseball and graduated from Memphis. I do not follow Memphis baseball, I follow UK baseball. I do not care about memphis basketball, I care about UK basketball. It's a degree, not a fan badge. I guess if you've never worked for the Lakers you can't be a super fan? Such a stupid argument on so many levels. I cherish my UK memories, on campus and off, and have thousands of dollars worth of memorabilia but hey, better take that authentic 2012 final four dome banner down signed by the team. Didnt go to English 101 at UK. Smdh.
Rack.

I went to UK for 3 years and then transferred to a D1 school in SC an graduated. UK is a passion since birth; I follow the other school and pull for them but I'm not near as emotionally invested and if the 2 ever meet then I hope UK crushes them and I'll proceed to rub all the salt in the wounds of my friends.

I have no doubt Ian Begley can now land a top flight job in the CNN mailroom. To those there, I'm so sorry.

You guys realize there's a difference between cleveland and New York, right? Cal knows that he has a good thing and isn't going to leave for just anything, but this is exactly the type of job he would take a long look at.
You've convinced me. Abandoning what might be his best class in 2018-2019 (that's the Bagley group for those who stink at math) and leaving his son at Kentucky for one of the worst jobs in the NBA - one that just fired a living basketball legend in Phil Jackson. Yup, I'm convinced.

Every year, someone tells us all, "this is exactly the type of job he'd look at." Every year.
