Calipari has interest in Knicks presidency, per Ian Begley

It's been openly stated that the only reason he didn't take the Cavs (i think Cal even commented on this) job, is bc the Twins announced their return and he didn't want to let them down after preaching about 'family' the last 8 years. If the Twins don't return, there's a 90% chance Cal's with the Cavs right now. No notable returning players this year to fulfill a commitment to. The two situations are completely different IMO.

And yet, you made up the 90% chance math and you're taking a rumor and treating it as fact.

Keep trying. Low post count + giddiness over the Cal to NBA summer rumors = obvious.

This- and he took that comment completely out of context "cal would 90% be gone had the twins not come back " ok whatver lol

Funny this thread blew up with a bunch of negative nancies ... and those of us who knew better kept saying it wasn't gonna happen. We're still here in the thread but the doom and gloom crowd / fake uk fans/ posters who have like 37 posts and never ever post unless it's something "negative " for UK are nowhere to be seen

They're pulling a @Steelers2012 - they disappeared lol

It is kindA weird he would turn down 80 mil to coach the Cavs but wants to run the Knicks. Always makes me worried another Camby or Rose situation will follow...Cal knows something is brewing and wants to bolt.

You must be worried on a semi-annual basis. How do you cope with life?

This- ain't happening

Knicks is a dumpster fire and will be for the foreseeable future. Cal already turned down a chance to coach Lebron - he's not leaving and he's certainly not leaving for the freaking knicks lol
He never turned down a chance to coach LeBron. LeBron was not signed at the time and Calipari denied ever being offered the job.

The Cal/Cavs/Twins comments were in the context of being a player's first program. Like, "How could I leave when they came back and trusted me with their futures?"

He went on to say that maybe people come back every year and he never leaves.

Last I checked, we just spent a month dancing with Diallo and he came back. He's in Egypt with Cal right now.

Does Cal have conversations or do his people have conversations about every high profile job? Probably so. Does it really matter?

He's leaving at some point, for some reason. Probably not this summer to that dumpster fire in New York.

How do we know he'll leave for an NBA job? People have always assumed he wants a spot in the NBA. Generally speaking, what evidence of that is there out there? Anything? This question is open for discussion and not directly intended for you, Aike.

Not trying to start an argument cause you are obviously at least somewhat intelligent as a postet but do you really see this ? I see lots of people mention the significance and importance of it- but never (cept for obvious UL/ other team fans posing as uk fans ) seen anyone actually say that ...

I cant think of any UK fan I know or have seen on here think that a title is less important or imperative than "draft night "

No but I see fans on here posting the very things Cal tells us about our players and the draft. "If we support them and their desire to be in the NBA they will carry us to a title". Almost restating it as defense of losing so many players every year.

There is no evidence anywhere other than rumors. Just like there is no real evidence of whether Cal did or did not approach the Knicks. Odd that some are so confident either way.
Coaches never fib. NBA teams never fib. So it becomes a case of believe what makes you most comfortable.

So....

We shouldn't use the rumors of LeBron returning to Cleveland in our argument for reasons Cal is secure at Kentucky because LeBron hadn't committed to a return to the Cavs when Cal was offered the job? In your world, those rumors didn't matter toward Cal's decision because Cal's people couldn't have possibly spoken with LeBron's people in back channels?

But...

We can believe these rumors because they make Cal's status at UK less secure and Cal's people - who were too inferior to know what LeBron, Cal's friend, was going to do - have suddenly mapped out Cal's demand with the New York Knicks? So totally incompetent and out of the loop with the Cleveland job, but suddenly competent and in the loop with the New York job?

Okay.

And yet, that’s not really so. I’m rather surprised that you would make a lackluster rebuttal regarding this issue.

We can follow the strength of an inference. For example:

  • Cal’s son is on the UK team. Does that matter at all, considering the next coach might not want him on the team?

  • Diallo’s return. The kid chose to turn down real money to come back and play for Cal. He trusts Cal. Does that matter?

  • Ellen Calipari’s openly public discomfort with moving across the US. Does that matter?

  • Cal’s coaching the Under 19 team, and building massive inroads with what might become his best class ever? Does that matter?

  • Cal saying he gets more pleasure out of helping these young men reach their dreams, and that his coaching legacy will be found there. Does what he actually say matter?

  • The fact that New York just fired one of its own, a living legend and a man who won a title as a player and 11 titles as a coach. Does the logic of following such an icon matter when it’s clear New York has zero patience for even their own internal icons - icons who are proven basketball minds?

  • Cal has already turned down jobs in Brooklyn (formerly New Jersey), Cleveland, and a half-dozen other NBA cities. He’s said he is offered NBA jobs pretty regularly. Does any of this matter?

  • Cal has said, many times now, that he wants to finish at Kentucky. Does any of that matter?

I could go on. The strength of your inference is mostly based on Cal’s charisma and charm and the view that he allegedly wants some form of play at redemption in the NBA. No quotes (Cal has stated many times why he wants to finish out at Kentucky), just weakly strewn-together inferences based more on his personality than any real logic.

Your argument is the weaker one. Don’t act like both arguments run in equal proportion. They don’t.

@UKCoachCalipari: NO ONE has contacted the Knicks on my behalf. I am the coach at Kentucky and will be for a long time!

“Can’t be true. He’s Italian and swaggy and listens to Frank Sinatra music. Those three components outweigh all the quotes he’s given to the contrary, the logic, and the sharp evidentially-based reasoning to the idea of remaining at Kentucky.”

"NO ONE has contacted the Knicks on my behalf. I am the coach at Kentucky and will be for a long time! Even in Egypt I can’t escape the rumors. Are you kidding me?! It’s 5 in the morning and this is what I wake up to? Off to go see the pyramids in a bit. And by the way, I like my team. And my USA Basketball too!"

Took this from facebook

Excellent! Best part is that about half of the current USA team will have played for Cal at UK within two years!

We don't.

He has the best college job and almost definitely won't ever leave Kentucky for another college job.

The only job that might conceivably look better to him at some point, is a high level NBA job that looks like the perfect storm coming together. One where he likes the ownership, and they want to give him all the money and power, AND they have a good chance to win.

That precise situation may or may not ever develop. And even if it does, he has to weigh it against the incredible job he has now.

But at some point, for some reason, he will walk away, unless he dies first.

And even if he "retires", he will probably still be working in basketball. Jerry West is still a consultant for the Clippers at nearly 80.

Why is this thread even going? When the news broke, I saw it on ESPN's FB post, and I came right here. Someone, somewhere, jumped the gun or even tried to mess with Kentucky's recruiting.. Cal, as soon as he could, debunked these rumors in his usual fashion.

It's done with.. move on to the 10th or so NBA rumor when it comes in the next few months.

Sounds like a classic case of the Knicks putting information out there to make it seem like a high profile person wants the job so the seem relevant. They have been bad for so long and are in such a horrible place as a franchise they need to spark some interest from big names.

It's true Bc I seent' it on the interwebz and cal is trying to skate past an impending storm of sanctions that is coming UK's way.

Lol--- ya some people actually believed that he was interested in the knicks Bc "something bad was about to happen "

Amazing to me that some people still get riled up and nervous about NBA rumors. It happens every damn off-season with the same outcome: he does exactly what he says he will do, remain at UK. He's definitely not going anywhere while his son is on the team.

Cal is dominating college BB and there's really nothing any of his rivals can do about it. It must be maddening for them. Fling out some rumors to maybe, possibly put a little bit of doubt in a recruits mind is pretty much their only ammo at this point. There will always be a "reputable" reporter eager to get put this stuff out because without fail it will generate traffic and clicks.

I just feel bad for all the poor little guys that got their hopes up thinking they won't have to deal with the Cal/UK dynasty anymore. It's pretty great watching that tiny little glimmer of hope get snuffed out with a single "I'm not going anywhere" tweet. Sorry folks, the dynasty continues! GBB!

I just dread the day when I see the rumor of Cal taking over the Harlem Globetrotters. That's a gig no coach could pass on.

I cannot for the life of me understand why people took cals comments about returning for the Twins in the direction they did. He wasn't leaving for the Cavs. He was making a point about loyalty.

I will admit that I get nervous when these rumors get started. As many say on this board, where there is smoke.... That being said, I'm still nervous, of course Cal refutes the stories. If the Knicks didn't show interest he would be stupid to say he did inquire, that would almost totally ruin recruiting for the next year. The true reason I am still nervous is this:

Cal refuted stories he was going to leave Memphis and we see where that went. I love our coach and our team, but you would be a little insane to think there may not be some truth to him wanting be the president of the Knicks.

Why do so many get hung up on tbis.

Cal is a salesman. Of course, you cant take a master salesman's word as Gospel. Hes also a coach. Thats as bad as a used car salesman who's also the town mayor.

But the incident at Memphis was blown waaay out of the water. He jist lost a tournament game and his team was getting off a plane. That wasnt the time. All he said was "memphis is where I want to be". Thats it. Never said he wouldn't leave, or that the next day it couldn't change.

Yes you're correct. This is why I get nervous. It COULD always change. And true to your statement, it did change the next day for him.

I want to see any big name coach say yes I did talk to school X about going there or to this NBA team. It got real serious and then didn't happen.
Heck you can find comments from Donovan saying he was not leaving Florida for Orlando even after he had signed the contract.

My point exactly. They may just be rumors, but if you're a true fan of Cal's, they are nerve racking rumors.

Sure, at the end of the day it's all coach speak, and a coach could change their mind before the day's over, but as a fan of said coach, it's still more calming to here him come out and deny any interest than just stay quiet and ignore the rumors.

I'll always be nervous that he could leave, but I'd be a lot more worried at the moment had he not said anything and just flat out ignored the rumors.

Well say this is true....i'd like to see him leave with at least one more title to go along with 8 years of #1 ranked recruiting classes.

Sorry. Looks like it fake news. Cal said on Mike and Mike he'd be at UK awhile. Best job in the country he called it. Sorry
