Cal Trending Down

There was a time in the Tubby era where the majority of fans knew we needed to move on. We appreciated his winning the title with Pitino’s players and all the success he had after that, but we collectively knew his days were numbered.

Am I alone in wondering if we’re not seeing the same thing with Cal? This team has absolutely no shot at being special. Next year there’s going to be a logjam, meaning more transfers and disgruntled players. It really is, and has been for the past three seasons, a hot mess.

We can all remember how, at Memphis, he assembled athletes, but not many basketball players. He’s gotten back to that, and it just doesn’t work in 2019.

We are witnessing the beginning of the end.

Blast away.
lol

Anyone that didn’t acknowledge Cal’s trending down after the last game care to do it now?

Penny Hardaway’s offense, minus Wisemen, looks much better than Cal’s. Think about that.
Cal still isn't trending down. You're just running around screaming the sky is falling. Look around, there are no elite teams. We'll be fine. Losing sucks ass. But it's not the end of Cal, holy crap.

I think you are a funny troll that's waits until the game's over to respond.
Not everybody is a troll if they don't worship Cal. We are pissed because we love UK and don't care for how the program is being run. The next poor coach that comes in will be left with nothing because all of Cal's guys will either bolt to the draft or transfer. There is no sustainability in how he runs our program.

Be careful what you wish for.

We haven't played our best ball in March for a long time now.
No we have not. And the last two tourneys we had very favorable draws. And here we are in a year where nearly every team, including the one we just played, has serious flaws. And we’re going to fight to make the tourney and rely on an opening night win as our best win.

Ha, I remember your trolling ass from last year, you only come out to fling shit as always disappear [laughing]

No one wants to lose, but shit happens...long ass way until March when 9/10 we're playing our best ball.

Were we playing our best ball in March when eliminated by Auburn playing without its best all around player in Okeke? Or the prior March when eliminated by a mediocre 9 seed KSU team also playing without its injured best player? Or when taken out by IU in the first weekend?

Let's just say the narrative about Cal's teams peaking in March has hit some ugly bumps in recent years.

That "peaking in March" thing is one of the more overblown lines that gets tossed around on this board.

To be honest, I can think of only two Cal teams where that's clearly true, the 2011 and 2014 teams did raise their game to a new level in the tourney (or course, the latter had no other direction to go after its woefully disappointing regular season).

The others all performed either worse or as expected for their seed.

Has MJ ever seriously criticized Calipari?
You had to see the walk at the end. 4-5 steps, even bad for an NBA walk. If they call it after we chose to play D instead of foul and it works but no call and they hit 3 with 2 on the shot clock so instead of down 3 with the ball under a minute we are down 6. No team can come back from that that late. We were right there and no team can overcome that kind of missed call late and swing in momentum. Cal got it right by going for a TO and they got it, but the refs didn't get it. Down 3 with the ball, we are right there. If you're honest you have to see that was one of many bad calls that broke our back.

IU.. the IU that missed the tournament last year, beat final four Michigan State twice last year....... just because we came close to OSU, doesnt take away from the fact we lost to 2 horrible teams and we're at 3 losses before Christmas.

Calipari will never sink as far as Tubby, he’s on another level here and always will be.

The program has slipped a little since the Wisconsin game. Something was lost that night and we’ve never gotten it back. Hence, 0 Final Four trips.

Will be interesting to see if he can figure this team out. So damn flawed yet so are most other teams this year.

No shame in losing to a strong Tosu today , they are as rock solid as any team out there —but playing without passion or focus Wed night and losing to a outgunned Utah team was flat out embarrassing . When they don’t have a player that Cal would even remotely consider recruiting and they dominate you — that’s a piss poor effort by ALL involved .. after being embarrassed last month by a mid major . I don’t know if Cal is trending down but this team sure is . Sad , such high hopes to be good this year when there isn’t any or many great teams to contest with .
But watching live allows you to see much more the cameras don’t pick up . EJ and Nick would never see the floor on most Cal teams . EJ seemed to struggle to get up and down the floor. And Nick doesn’t understand much about basketball . Has an uncanny ability to foul the other teams PG on layup attempts . And Whitney and brooks are just meh . Haven’t shown much since OCT . We just aren’t that good . I’m not cashing out on them but for my own sanity I need to check my level of fanatic fandom .

This is spot on. It amazes me how fans are now so dismissive of things we used to really care about. Increasingly the new view seems to be that the only thing that matters is what round of NCAA tournament you reach. Well, if that's how you feel, then why watch the regular season at all?

People here now act like losing the Indiana series was nothing, but honestly the end of that rivalry was a real loss for the sport. It was recognized nationally as the best non-con rivalry in the sport, it was a cernterpiece event all college hoops fans tuned into every December, it'd be the highest attended game of the season each year (it packed out a friggin Dome during the years they had it in Indy).

For those too young to remember those days, let me tell you, that atmosphere was a lot cooler than playing at a neutral site thousands of miles away in a partly empty arena.

My biggest concern is how Brad did.
