Cal Trending Down

Just goes to show the pumpers are pathetic losers who only care about Cal.
Trollaparis.
Not even real fans.
I spit on them ...
People were the same way with Marvin Lewis. People simple conflate being a fan of the team with being a defender-at-all-costs of the team’s coach.

It’s okay to love the team, and question the coach. But not for pumpers.

Hell no we don’t need to replace Cal. He does, however, need to adjust his offensive scheme since it’s often, well, offensive. We need to actually run an offense other than just driving to the basket hoping to score or draw a foul. He also needs to either recruit better shooters or figure out why the players he does recruit struggle so much with their shots. My theory is he relies far too much on the players working on their shooting on their own time and not emphasizing it during practice. He’s basically said as much before about shooting and shooting free throws. Regardless, we’re never winning another title until we can shoot a decent percentage from the perimeter. It’s bitten us too many times in the tournament. I also wish we wouldn’t switch so much on defense. We get caught in bad matchups too often.

Well we do pay Cal $9 million dollars and the players nothing. I'd say he has a little more accountability.
Sure he does. Never said he shouldn’t be held more accountable. But both sides deserve criticism in a loss. Quickley went 2-10 and missed numerous wide open looks he normally knocks down. He makes one or two of those we win and people aren’t blasting Cal for the most part. Just the way it goes sometimes.

Wait, you think players don't get criticized on this board? Did you miss the two threads trashing Nick Richards or the Tyrese Maxey threads?

This is definitely the most divided I have seen our fan base since Tubby was coach!

I think its still mostly detractors. Im still 80 to 90% in Cals corner. And im sure he will make adjustments.

No need to pull any alarms yet..

But I think its perfectly fair to point put his flaws.. flaws that he didnt have his first 5 years or ones he was somehow able to hide.

You really just brought up Marvin Lewis to get your point across? Lol wow

What about the tournament runs we’ve had against teams we had no business beating and did?
When? We made one run to the Final Four in 2011 that could be considered overachieving. That’s been the only time. Some will say 2014 but that’s bull. We had the most talented team in the country that year and just underachieved during the regular season and only began playing to our potential in the SEC tournament.

It’s time to send the used car salesman packing once and for all. Maybe Mitch will finally have the guts to make the mid-season change so many of us have been clamoring for.
I think we’re just hitting the time where the writing is on the wall. He’ll likely be here 1 or 2 more years. But it is the beginning of the end.

Wtf are you talking about? The guy I was responding to was giving all of the blame to Cal and didn’t say anything about players performances. Of course there’s posters who criticize players

At the end of the day, I love UK. Coaches come and go. I love our players as well, when I actually get to know them for more than 10 mins. Draft night may help recruiting, but what does that mean to us if we aren’t winning games or championships? Cal was revolutionary when he came here....now he isn’t. So he adapts, or UK does....

I think Cal is too stubborn and arrogant to make adjustments! He hasn’t adjusted to running a decent offense against zone defense since he’s been here. And that’s what got us beat by WVU in the elite 8 his first year here.

I think he was able to hide his flaws his first 5 years at UK because he had top 5 recruits. He had NBA all star caliber talent! Now that he’s not getting those type of players his flaws are glaring!

I have no faith that Clarke/Boston/Fletcher/Jackson are anything different than the low skill/high athleticism recruits we see every year

Great posts tonight. I agree with this totally. I do think they will be better then this crop.. but we do this as fans every year. Maxey was our return-to-form PG. Whitney and Brooks are the wjngs weve been missing. I mean, FFS, you had fans touting Dontaie Allen.

I would not get overly excited for this class or any class. Not when they only play 1 to 2 years.

The analogy holds.

I am not comparing them as coaches. I’m speaking to how fans behave in regard to coaches. Surely you understand this?
If Cal had Marvin Lewis’ post season track record he would have been gone by now.

Still plenty of season left. The next forty games will tell us a lot. Go Calipari.

Great post

Gotta be honest and I never believed I would say this. I have lost interest in UK basketball. Hell, I forgot the game was coming on until I got an alert on my phone. We can't get to know these guys before they are out the door. We are told we have to watch mediocre ball until February. I for one am tired of it. I love Cal, but he has under performed here

For me, this quote is a lot truer than I wish it was. I respect Cal and I think he's a wonderful asset to our Central Kentucky Community-but I am fighting losing interest in the program and I have been for around a year now. Kentucky Basketball has been a huge part of my life for close to 60 years, and I feel like if it slips away one more important thing to me will be gone forever. Still, I feel no real connection to the program or the players, and looking around at many of my family, friends, and colleagues, I think that feeling isn't totally isolated.

The idiots are out tonight.

Congratulations to the CLOD. Great loss tonight guys.

@JRowland i just reported this one in - I’m not involved but more name calling and personal comments from some of the same cast of characters we were talking about. They need to be shown the door if they can’t discuss without the condescending bs they seem to only know how to do. Thanks

I don’t think it will either. After the Wisconsin loss the program under Calipari just hasn’t been the same.
I think Calipari was all or nothing with the 38-1 team. After that loss i don't think his heart has been in it. It's as if it really doesn't matter to him anymore. His goals have seemed to be more about number of wins, number of draft picks. Getting titles has clearly been second seat. I mean, do you ever see him sit a guy for not running a set play? Has he ever been ecstatic about winning the SEC tournament?

It isn’t. It’s the same with a lot of my family and colleagues and we have always been DIE HARD. I think you can think Cal is a good guy and as a UK fan, want change. Ppl will say we aren’t true fans or whatever, but it’s the TRUE fans that are hurting the most right now. It isn’t about a loss tonight. It’s about a trend that we keep seeing, that no one, including our well paid HC is fixing. It’s not even fun to watch anymore, win or lose. Remember the UK/IU game n 2012? THAT was fun b-ball.

It’s unfortunate that people act like this. We somehow live in a world where if your opinion differs, you’re immediately put into a category and scolded. It’s very sad.

agree. The staff here was clear bannings would start. Listen, people are going to let off steam. We were hot garbage tonight, and it’s going to happen

do I think cal is about to be fired? No. I disagree with the OP but we can talk about that without calling him an idiot. The extreme positive tails of our fanbase in a lot of ways are far worse than the extreme negative. At least the OP is upset and talking about basketball. Bass just added a bunch of personal drivel and that crap has to stop. The staff here seems to agree

HE lost that game for us though. I think we all saw that. He was more concerned with gettin guys drafted than putting in the players that would’ve won that game.

Tonight sucked.

But this thread needs balance.

Just a bit of balance. Just a bit of optimism.

We must turn to Super Ginger to save us from the bleak darkness, gentlemen.

It isn't as fun to watch. I've seen lots of losses, close losses, bad lossess to terrible teams, close losses to great teams, lopsided losses and cheered and destroyed furniture with the best of them..that's not really it. The crowds at Rupp are almost surreal in how many empty seats are everywhere, and we can talk ad infinitum about big screen TVs, ticket prices, but if the product was a little more fun, people would show up to watch it.

Watching tonight was kind of like having a favorite pet euthanized, sad, but you were also glad it's suffering was over and it couldn't wet the carpet anymore.

We've won the most games since Cal has been here, and his championship win rate is still higher than every UK coach except Rupp (barely).

I just lost a beloved dog in august and I’d rather watch UK lose a 1000 games than watch him die again, but while a lil harsh, I get your point.
