Running game looked strong last night

We should start the game running to get line in rhythm. Just as important as quarterback. And it gets him in to game as well

When the line just pointed forward and ran straight, everything worked well. Moved the ball down the field pretty easy. I'm sure it will improve when Taytum comes back.

But I hope DSK gets the ball more. He ran well. Plus there were some some plays he was putting his body on the line. Laid some solid blocks. You got to reward that kind of thing.

FB Recruiting Visitors this weekend

Will try to add to this tomorrow but right off the bat was told that tons of UK's commits will be in attendance.

Jermiel Atkins told me he will be there.

2027 offered OL Brady Hull will be there. He's someone UK seems to have a great shot with.

2026 tight end Sam Hamilton from Ohio has an offer and says a bit that he's getting there right off the bat.

Drew Otey is a 2027 corner with P5 offers and he's in attendance.

Will update as I get updates. Also would expect some guys to just make their plans known on social media.

I feel good about our WRs

The transfers have talent, the group seems better coached, and they look like they took S&C seriously this off season. I think they’ll get open against most SEC DBs, and the additions and Brown can all make defenders miss in space. Another healthy sign is if Key is your 3rd or 4th best receiver then you got a good group. His ceiling is too low to be a team’s 2nd best receiver.

Kentucky Blue Light (Club Blue NIL Beer)

Hello, friends. As some of you may know, I am the founder of Gravely Brewing in Louisville, KY and have been a member of HOB forever. We even had a subscription (technically, my father's) to the print version of the The Cat's Pause before HOB existed. I was born in Lexington, raised in NKY, went to UK, and have since settled in Louisville. Since starting Gravely in 2017, we've hosted loads of UK watch parties, alumni events, bracket buster fundraisers, and more... YET, I could never figure out a concrete way to tie our product to an effort that supports UK beyond one-time events.

Enter Kentucky Blue Light, a light lager clocking in at 4.3% that's full of flavor while remaining incredibly crisp and refreshing. Designed for tailgating and watching games, I guarantee it's a brew you're going to enjoy. The greatest thing about it is that we did this in collaboration with Club Blue NIL, meaning proceeds from every unit or pour sold are going directly into the NIL. Easy (and rewarding) way to support the cause!

As for Club Blue, they've been a great partner to work with thus far. I feel pretty confidently that Club Blue will eventually become "the" NIL for UK Athletics and hope this co-branded beer and state-wide retail exposure helps solidify that as it's hard to compete in the new age of NIL when there are a half dozen collectives running around diluting the concentration of funds.

The plan was to go live on Monday but, of course, a leak occurred via my distributor and the fans found it and KSR was quick to pounce so today's the day. And some will ask why not a brewery in Lexington, to which I would say it's the University of Kentucky not University of Lexington! Lexington, IMHO, actually has a better craft beer scene than Louisville but I guess my blood is a just smidge bluer than the brewery owners in Lex 😏

PS. During this entire process, I think posting this info on HOB was one of the things I was looking forward to the most! Hope ya dig it! 🍻

Patterson and RBs

Amongst all the good stuff we saw last night, I have to say that I was happy to see Patterson look like the potential real deal for the future. All 3 backs are small but Patterson looks like he has a pretty good base for his size already and on 2 or 3 runs already showed the kind of moves you need to make plays.

we really need Chip back as all 3 of our guys are woefully small. Sumo is a good player but can't take a heavy load and Wilcox flashed his speed but doesn't seem to have much shiftiness or vision, about what we expected.

I am really excited about Patterson potentially growing into that feature back role, he at least looks like he could be a Ray Davis type one day.

Football ***** UK Football Practice Notebook - Aug. 28 *****

Hello HOB. Good Wednesday afternoon to y’all. I’m heading back over to campus for today’s practice report. It’s another scorcher today in LEX with heat index currently at 102. Fortunately, the forecast for Saturday is much better in terms of temperature, low 80s around kickoff, but a chance of some lingering storms from the afternoon. But I digress…. We’ll have defensive players and coaches meeting with us today, along with QB Brock Vandagriff, who is unable to do interviews on Tuesdays due to a class he takes in the evening. We’ll probably have him on Wednesdays during the season. Practice wraps up around 5:30 ET. Stay tuned for the latest news and notes…

DC BRAD WHITE Q&A:

* On new SoMiss QB from FSU.. Good player. Did some good things when Travis went down at FSU. Tall. Can see over pocket. Scrambles well. A big challenge for us.

* On any motivation from having lost to So Miss before… None. No looking back. Most of staff were not here, no players were here. Focus is on now, focus on us.

* Long, the new OC at SoMiss, is a seasoned play-called. Notre Dame, GaTech, analyst at Tennessee, assistant for Petrino. Unique looks that we probably haven’t practiced will come up. Have to play to our rules, disciplined.

* Vocal leader on D? We’ll see. Right now, shared deal.

* Experience is great, but doesn’t always take the anxiety away as a coach. Bottom line is you have to live up to it, rise to the moment.

* On Rayner being an “OR” with Pop on depth chart… Don’t read too much into it.

* On other CB spot across from Max… Trust multiple guys, maybe one guy separates during course of the season. Again, don’t read too much into it.

MAXWELL HAIRSTON Q&A:

* Excited to go show what they can do.

* Deepest the CB room has been since I’ve been here.

* On SoMiss… They have a weapon at WR with No. 1. Moves around a lot. Motion a lot.

* JQ Hardaway has really put in the work. Loves seeming what he’s done to get better.

* Defense is very close. Tight group. Everyone has a voice to speak up.

*****

BROCK VANDAGRIFF Q&A:

* Different feel going into a season as a starter, but tried to prepare the way he always has at UGA.

* Barion has really matured, even between spring and now. Leading the young guys in that room.

* On what he’s most eager to see Saturday… Just to go hit someone else. (Laughs) If these plays work.

* Very confident in this O-Line.

* Excited for people to see Demie, and QB loves a back who can catch like he does.

* Hasn’t told the coaches this yet, but he probably won’t sleep at all the night before the game.

*******

JJ WEAVER Q&A:

* Excited to go play. Feels like he has a lot to prove.

* On what he’s eager to see Saturday from the D… Getting more sacks. That’s the big focus.

* Pop is a “headhunter.” Cleans everything up behind the DLine.

I call BS on Tubby Smith ?

Hey I get that we all love Tubby and he is certainly a great ambassador for us. However in his interviews about Coach Pope and especially Cal he makes the remark that Cal left the program in good shape ? By what standards are we talking about, he left without a single player intending to return to U K ! He hadn’t sniffed a run in the Big Dance in years and failed to win the SEC regular season or tournament in years. I suppose one could say we wasn’t on probation but isn’t that about it ? We had been reduced to a very mediocre basketball program at best. He failed on many levels to adapt to the modern style of basketball and wouldn’t adopt the use of analytics because of his own arrogance. I think Tubby is a class individual and was certainly one of the best in game coaches I’ve ever seen. However to say he left the program in good shape is a threat ? Your thoughts ?
