KENTUCKY HC JOHN CALIPARI Q&A:
* To come off the game in Chicago, the enormity of it, to get home at 4 in the morning and play a team that was going to play a lot of zone, I loved how the guys responded. Zone forces you to pass the ball, and these guys passed it to each other. 26 assists. Making 3s. Tre in the middle. A little bit of a slow start to the 2nd half, but Reed and Rob were tremendous.
* A couple too many turnovers tonight, but still a relatively low number. Trying to make the hardest play.
* Learned how good Tre could be in the middle of the zone when they played in Toronto.
* On taking a ton of 3s in Chicago and making a ton of 3s tonight... because I've got good shooters, I have skilled players.
* A couple of guys on this team are going thru that tough process of dealing with expectation. And a couple of guys who are playing with house money, just playing.
* On Rob's 3 straight turnovers... Had to take him out. He said he didn't walk. I said you walked AND took two extra steps. I'm not gonna quit coaching that kid because he's got a chance to be really special.
* On whether DJ is pressing with the Wagner legacy... He's had it on him all his life. Every guy like that has had to deal with it. Own your performance and learn to get better. Get out of your own way. Talk more. Do other things to help the team. But that's part of coaching here. There's a lot at stake for a lot of these kids and their families. I can't do it for them, but I can put them in a position where they can do their thing. Best thing is these guys want to be coached, and they're locked in.
* What's crazy about this team right now is they're having a couple of guys not play like they're capable of playing and still don't have the big guys.
* St. Joes has everyone back, including the preseason player of the year in their conference. They shoot 35 3s... if they hit 20, you lose. We're going to have to be more locked in defensively. Hard game.
STONEHILL COACH Q&A:
* On Reed Sheppard... Saw a bit of him thru his AAU days and on film from the games this year. He was one of our keys. We knew we had to stick on him, but it's hard when they have so many weapons. You can't guard everyone.
* On having played UConn and UK... (Same exact score) They're both incredible. You have speed, athleticism on UK, more size with UConn. UK will get better when they get some of their size back. "It would be a fun game to watch, I'll say that much."
