Beating Duke was more than just winning a basketball game.

Don’t get me wrong, I wanted to beat Duke as much as anyone in the BBN. What I didn’t expect was that rush that I haven’t felt in a while. That rush was a feeling of shared pride that we as a part of BBN had lost over the last few years. The joy I felt as we won a game that in the past few years we would have lost down the stretch or even more likely would not have even been close to winning ran over me. I had forgotten just how much Kentucky basketball had meant to me for so many years, and how it always changed the way I felt and how a good win always had a positive impact on my mood. I want to say a big thank you to Coach Pope, the entire team, and the coaching staff for giving me something I have missed so much.

Our defense and Mental Toughness Won This Game

UK used their halftime well..

Had a gut check, chance to slow down and realize "Oh OK, this is why playing at Kentucky is deferent". Lol

Got a better flow on offense, started attacking more.

Substitutions were good, used depth well. Realized this wasn't Chandlers game. Did give Robinson alot more minutes than probably deserved but he still played solid D regardless of disappearing on O.

Got more physical on D, which helped Duke get beat down physically.

We have guys experienced enough to know how to be in shape for major college games early in the season.

We have players that know it's a 40 minute game and know how to lose, which knowing how to lose helps you handle a lot of different aspects of a 40 minute game.

I’d like to share some embarrassing quotes from myself from back in April

Pope being hired was a chance taken but if you read the tea leaves of his career good enough, you could see there was coach who knew the game inside and out, and who turned a no-name basketball school into something without needing five-star players.

The latter of which is a testament to his ability to coach players into something great. I think everyone here was skeptical at the very least but some knew that he could be a great coach given the right environment.

Player of the game

Can you believe several IDIOTS were comparing him to Wheeler in the game thread
This is hard to believe. Until he throws a ball over the backboard on a layup then I wont even go anywhere near saying their name in the same sentence. Butler is a damn good to great defender. More like a Dominique Hawkins perhaps? Hard nosed player on D who can score when called upon. Butler is a pleasure to watch!
