I just spit my taco 🌮 out damn u!Are you retarded?
Wait...some people don't understand what plus minus is?? Oof...it's the most overrated stat in basketball anyway! Just ignore it.
It's been brought up here so much lately because our favorite player happened to have the best +/- score in the nation. That made us think it's really important. But now that he's had a negative +/- game ...well, not as much.Yeah it's weird how much it's been brought up here lately as if it has any meaning.
The best way I’ve seen it used is with groups of players. You may look at when 2-3 guys are on the court together or even a particular group of 5. It’s still valuable for individuals but there are a lot of parameters that need to be set before hand. It's been brought up here so much lately because our favorite player happened to have the best +/- score in the nation. It's certainly an imperfect stat, but it still is useful because:
--you know how some players help their team win through ways that don't get measured in statistics? Plus/minus helps identify who they are.
--you know how teams often just seem to do better when one player comes and worse when he goes out? Plus/minus helps identify who they are.
Five minutes of zone defense probably wins this game.Edwards had a lot to do with the loss. And not having DJ didn’t help. Shep did his usual awesome job with some of the guys blowing past him, but damn he was all over the place.
There has to be some credit given to UNCW. They balled. And some credit (negative) given to these refs. They were pretty horrible.
Not sure what Cal could have done differently today, and I’m as skeptical about his dumb ass as anyone. But we came out lethargic and Edwards sucked. Badly.
And their next game they'll hit nothing and lose. That's how this goes - these teams walk into Rupp and unload like a Top 25 team, then waddle back into insignificance.Cats played poorly but the two guys for them made tough shot after tough shot
At what point will our fans finally realize that it is our team's total lack of preparation and game management that allows these teams to beat up on us at Rupp??And their next game they'll hit nothing and lose. That's how this goes - these teams walk into Rupp and unload like a Top 25 team, then waddle back into insignificance.
This metric has some merit, but widely over-valued for the most part. It really needs A LOT of context to go along with it. For example, if Reed checks into the game along with Rob, and a struggling DJ and Edwards leave the game, that context matters. There’s no calculation. +\- is simply how the score changes when you’re on the court.
If Reed plays 1 minute and we go up by 5 in that minute, he’s +5. It doesn’t matter if he has 20 points and 15 rebounds or if he has zero’s across the board.
If he plays 20 minutes and during the minute he plays, we are a net negative 20, then he’s -20. Doesn’t matter what the rest of his stats are.
He could play a minute , Reeves hit 3 3’a and Reed is +9. That’s why the stat isn’t the end all be all some have made it out to be.
Sure. This metric has some merit, but widely over-valued for the most part. It really needs A LOT of context to go along with it. For example, if Reed checks into the game along with Rob, and a struggling DJ and Edwards leave the game, that context matters.
But if Reed checks into the game for Adou, and a struggling DJ and Edwards stay in the game and continue to struggle, that matters.
If Reed checks into the game alongside Joey Hart, Jordan Burks, and Brennan Canada but has to play against Kansas' starters - that context matters and will most likely impact Reeds +/-
It doesn't just matter that Reed (or whoever) is in the game. It matters WHO ELSE is in the game just as much. Not just for Kentucky, but for the opponent as well. If they sub out a couple of their studs, or one of their studs gets in foul trouble or whatever, this will definitely have an impact on the metric.
He has hated us for years. The stat keeper is taking shots at Reed because he hates Kentucky fans.
LOL!The stat keeper is taking shots at Reed because he hates Kentucky fans.
For the life of me, I can't grasp the thought process. Lost by 7. Reed plays all but 50 seconds. Reed has a +/- of -9. Sooooooooo, even for those that don't math all that well, I figure it's fairly easy to understand the Cats were +2 in those 50 seconds. What’s the question? They lost by 7 and he played almost the entire game. Did people expect him to be in the (+) column?
People are grossly misunderstanding this stat this year. What happened?
I'm just choosing to believe this is satire. No! sheppard was easily the best player on the floor! Look at the box score!
No way he deserves a minus 9!
This stat will be gone with the wind soon enough.
How Dillingham was -7 with his line and Shep was -9 with his is laughable.
Too much emphasis put on PT.
Its absurd.
That's the ONLY way it can be used effectively. And you have to play around with lineups a lot to make it work. It's just a horrendously overused statistic for an individual in basketball. The best way I’ve seen it used is with groups of players. You may look at when 2-3 guys are on the court together or even a particular group of 5. It’s still valuable for individuals but there are a lot of parameters that need to be set before hand.

Not 6 baskets, it was 6 pointsWe lost this game because Edwards and Dillingham were a combined 5 of 23. Not because Shep gave up 6 straight baskets; which Im calling bs on Cal saying too!
