The defintion is a sports statistic used to measure a player's impact, represented by the difference between their team's total scoring versus their opponent's when the player is in the game.

Basically if you come in and cost your team points, each player on the floor will be negative that point total for while you are in. Vice versa, if you come in and your team goes ahead +5 or so.

There’s no calculation. +\- is simply how the score changes when you’re on the court.

If Reed plays 1 minute and we go up by 5 in that minute, he’s +5. It doesn’t matter if he has 20 points and 15 rebounds or if he has zero’s across the board.

If he plays 20 minutes and during the minute he plays, we are a net negative 20, then he’s -20. Doesn’t matter what the rest of his stats are.

There has to be some credit given to UNCW. They balled. And some credit (negative) given to these refs. They were pretty horrible.

Not sure what Cal could have done differently today, and I’m as skeptical about his dumb ass as anyone. But we came out lethargic and Edwards sucked. Badly.

The calculation is based on the actual score when the player is in the game. Example: Reed starts the game and the score is 0/0, Reed leaves the game when we are down 7. Reed is then -7 in the efficiency rating. Reed comes back in after 1 minute and plays the rest of the first and we fall behind by an additional 1 point half the half. Reed is -8 at that point in the game.

The efficiency rating is determined by scoring differential while a player is in the game

Your team could be losing by 100 points and the coach puts a player in the game in the last seconds of a game. The player hits a 3 pointer as the horn sounds. The player’s efficiency rating is +3 even though the team loses by 97 points

Nobody played great D today. The team was flat and threw a clunker. Couldn’t get defensive stops down the stretch, couldn’t get any offensive rebounds, no second chances. Too many fouls, couldn’t hit point blank shots right under the basket. Outside of Reed, 3 point shooting was non existent. Defense missed Wagner. This loss was a team effort.
