Who stood and kneeled for the anthem?

so I should be allowed to go to an NFL game with a big "LOCK HER UP" banner and expect not to be assaulted or denied entry? Or would that be generalized as "oh there are always agitators but the majority are peaceful.... haha I love that one. Abortion is murder, Where was Obama during Benghazi? Let's really have some political discussions...... at a FOOTBALL game lol

If you think people can’t express their views the way they want to then you’re wrong. If you think it’s ok to call people “Sons of B****es” for expressing an opinion then you have very bad manners and are probably not very intelligent, but you’re not technically wrong.

If you don’t like it being expressed at the beginning of a football game that’s ok. If you don’t watch that’s fine too. If their boss wants to fire them that’s fine.

We need to stop thinking what we like and agree with is absolutely 100% perfect and right and everything is wrong and disgusting and has no place in society. I really have a hard time looking around and seeing so many people that feel entitled and willing to trample all over the opinions and rights of other Americans. This is not a left or right thing either as both sides are all too willing to trample rights to suppress opinions counter to their narrative.

They weren't called SOB's for expressing an opinion, they were called an SOB for not standing for the national anthem, which is my and many others opinion of them.

Why didn't the players protest something a little more sacrificial, like their over inflated pay check to a good cause? Oh thats right, they'll need that money because they have 8 kids with 7 different women, lawyers on retainer for domestic abuse and court fee's for future bankruptcy....smart fellas, smart.
In the long run, they;re doing more harm than good. The average fan that supports is pissed off enough to not attend another game, cops are even more trigger happy and the majority of vets are disgraced.

Is this the official topic thread for the ongoing Anthem/protests?

I have to say, as a Trump supporter, and STILL a Trump supporter.. He really needs to just keep his mouth shut. Name calling? Pulling the 10-year old "You're not invited to my birthday!" move on the Golden State Warriors? As the president, you have to be above this.

I can't say I wasn't embarrassed over the weekend. He's doing a good enough job IMO, but bickering with athletes, glorified performers? Really dude? Someone needs to approve/disapprove of his twitter/public reactions before he really shoots himself in the foot.

WWJCD? What Would John Calipari Do? He wouldn't even address this stuff. He'd at most, make an ever so slight "check yourself" remark, be complimentary otherwise, and focus on his own people and business. He's above it. He's a leader and runs his business to near perfection.. I'd like to see more of that from Trump. Just pay no mind to athletes, media, and outside noise..

Nothing more to add, but thought this might be funny. (might not be. YMMV)

Keep tellu
It wasn't that long ago that most Americans were horrified at the fact that in the Soviet Union and other communist countries, alegance to the state was mandatory. Now our POTUS says athletes should stand for the anthem or lose their job. Wow! Just....wow!

To be fair, those same people used to think Russia supporting you and helping you win an election while tampering with our voting machines was a bad thing, but now it isn't because emails.

We've really come around on that big, cuddly bear.

The rules are found on pages A62-63 of the league’s game operations manual:

The National Anthem must be played prior to every NFL game, and all players must be on the sideline for the National Anthem.

During the National Anthem, players on the field and bench area should stand at attention, face the flag, hold helmets in their left hand, and refrain from talking. The home team should ensure that the American flag is in good condition. It should be pointed out to players and coaches that we continue to be judged by the public in this area of respect for the flag and our country. Failure to be on the field by the start of the National Anthem may result in discipline, such as fines, suspensions, and/or the forfeiture of draft choice(s) for violations of the above, including first offenses.

This is the NFL's rule on the behavior during the national anthem, approved by the NFLPA.

Also...

Goodell hasn't always been so supportive of his players engaging in free speech on the field.

  • Last year the NFL barred the Dallas Cowboys from wearing a decal on their helmet honoring the five police officers killed in a domestic terror attack.
  • The NFL also banned the Tennessee Titan's linebacker, Avery Williamson, from honoring 9/11 victims by wearing cleats that read "9-11/01" and "Never Forget" on the 15th anniversary of the terror attack.
  • The NFL fined Robert Griffin III $10,000 for wearing a t-shirt during a press conference that said "Operation Patience." (The shirt was created by Reebok and players are required to only wear clothing sold by Nike.)
  • RGIII also ran into trouble with the league for wearing a shirt that said "Know Jesus, Know Peace."
  • The NFL has banned players from wearing Beats headphones on the field (doing so violated the league's deal with Bose).
  • The Steelers' William Gay was fined for wearing purple cleats, which he did to raise awareness for domestic violence (an issue Goodell claims the league takes seriously).

Also was a time when supporting communism was bad, now you’re applauded as a progressive thinker.

There was also a time when calling everyone who voted left of totalitarianism a communist was popular, Senator McCarthy.

But we outgrew that about sixty years ago. Please try and keep up. There are intrinsic communist and socialist concepts in our government, but intelligent human beings can discuss complex issues with nuance and understanding instead of wielding a big America hammer to anyone and anything they disagree with.

Just like we aren't a full democracy or we aren't fully capitalistic, anything short of being an anarcho-libertarian means you're going to end up a hypocrite somewhere along the line if you just call everyone a communist.

Have you even given one thought to what Kaepernick started kneeling for and why the others are kneeling? They want recognition brought to the fact that people with black or brown skin are seemingly being gunned down and treated unfairly by the police. I don’t think their chosen method of protest is effective and I think it is somewhat disrespectful to troops, but to call them an SOB is to show contempt for their existence by claiming their mother is a b**** for even giving birth to them. I think all Americans can do better than that. I believe that you are capable of intelligently considering their point of view and respecting their rights. I believe you are better than that, unless for some reason you think people like them don’t deserve the same rights that you do. If you think that then that is an internal problem with your heart and mind.

On top of that I am ashamed that our President whom I voted for either thinks it is appropriate to talk this way about other Americans or is using this type of language because he thinks enough people out their will respond favorably to it. If it is the latter than we have a lot of racists left in our country and the athletes are absolutely doing the right thing.

"How come Rosa Parks is protesting by doing something that law says she shouldn't do?! Doesn't she have any respect for America and the police?! No credibility! If she wants to protest, she should do it by following every rule and order of society."

Only now the folks on the left actually carry Communist flags, and wear clothes with pics of communist dictators while protesting about "oppression".

Now we simply accuse everyone right of center as Racists, homophobes, islamaphobes, misogynists and so on. We've really come a long way.

We are trying to keep communist and socialist concepts OUT of our Govt, try and keep up.

Did you really just shame Bill for "SOB"?

Cool.

Edit: I misread your OP. I won't edit out my initial stupidity.

I don't think you believe those folks represent the left any more than those wearing swastikas represent the right, but calling anyone who disagrees a communist or someone who hates America is exactly that same kind of divisive speech. Which is why it's an awful idea for the president to behave the way he does.

Listen, I don't have anything against protesting, I think it is incredibly disrespectful, and counterproductive to use the national anthem as your vehicle to do that. You are not going to draw people to your viewpoint by immediately turning off the population.

I do think cops should be held accountable if they abuse their power. However, I also think the african american community needs desperately to look inward as well.

I don't think Trump should've said what he said, but that doesn't mean his point was wrong. He wasn't showing contempt for their existence, it was a figure of speech, and it wasn't directed at every NFL player. How did son of a bitch become racist? If I think someone should stand for the national anthem or face consequences, which apparently the NFL rules committee thinks so too, I'm a racist?

Where did I call everyone on the left Communists? I was specifically pointing to the ridiculousness of Kaepernick wearing a Castro shirt, and college kids supporting North Korea and waving Soviet flags at college ralleyes.

Wanting to force nationalism is so ironically un-American.
I don't want to force nationalism in any way, I would PREFER reasonable thinking and consistency and not divisive actions with no real goal in mind. But good cliche though.

Gone are the days of proper protesting.

Steelers are a no show for anthem. .. in Chicago.

Are they specifically protesting what you're breathlessly wanting them to protest?

Tomlin says no.

Something was protested in Chicago...
One guy stood. Former military guy on their team. Good for him. Not even a Steelers fan myself. I hope fans stop going and watching. I know I am.

Your response to "patriots" supporting a president backed by Russia was that it used to be a bad thing to be a communist but now it's good. That's all you gave me. If I misrepresented that, I apologize.
