who sold their 2012 championship ring?

I'm disappointed to hear that a former uk basketball player with a uk degree needs money.

Was Always under the impression that if you played bball at uk you'd never have to worry about a job or money in this state.

Has that myth been busted with this news?

That would mean the pawn guy paid $125. I doubt that's accurate.

I don't know for sure but I've pawned many items and rings that have no value like silver and gold or diamonds fetch little return. They don't take many risks on could go for items, unless its a super bowl ring or what not.

No kidding. In state kid. Played four years. Got a degree. Won a title. Lived the dream.

Not like he's someone like Hami Diallo who just used us for a semester and went pro like he planned since middle school.

Exactly. I used to work in a pawnshop. Jewelry is bought by weight. He might get a little more because of it being UK, if he sold it in Ky. $500 is the absolute most he would've been paid. The $125 estimate earlier is probably closer to the number.

Lol I had a post deleted the other day as well. Pretty shocking, considering it was in response to a dbag Duke fan.

Snowflakes are very fragile. All our mods belong to dook. :) Don't taze me bros.

Your reply to the girlieguy could cause physical and mental damage for years to come.

It isn't just jewelry, though. I mean... It is in the literal sense, but it isn't. It's the type of ultra rare sports memorabilia that people have proven they'll pay for. You don't just sell a championship ring for less than I spend at the comic book shop on a random Saturday. Hell, I've got a Venom action figure that I paid more than that for. No way I believe a former UK player would sell his ring for that low a price knowing there are collectors all over the state who wouldn't hesitate to pay a thousand or two.

Unless he just wanted rid of it.

Pawn shops don't care. People are there to get cash in hand, in a hurry. I bought a authenticated Babe Ruth autograph for $300.

I agree with your premise and argument. Just that a pawn shop knows people need money and pay according ti the scrap value of said jewlery. Unless this one specializes in memorabilia, then I could see closer to 500. Maybe because hood himself.sold it the guy knew the risk was a low as it got for a counterfeit and he had absolute proof where it came from.

If it sold for $5,000.00, my guess is he sold it for about $3.000.00

I'm a big fan of Pawn Stars.

No way. The shop had no idea what auction price would be and there is nothing to compare a previous sale to. If he went to Rick Harrison the absolute most he would have gotten was 800. He would have said this is a niche item. Not real gold or stones. I have to pay an auction and advertise it. Pay my employees and it will sit. Its the best I can do lol.

People no one purchased that ring for 100-500 dollars lol. Championship rings are extremely hard to come by. That pawn shop was probably in Kentucky and knew what they had. They more than likely squeezed some juice profit out of it.

Hood is a moron. And I hate saying that, but besides selling it (which is dumb), they could have marketed that correctly and made a hella lot more money. Had I known, damnit. People who will pay more never saw it.

Y'all hate on and tear down half the players, how on earth would this be true? Sheray Thomas pays for every beer he drinks in this state.

The only people who that applies to are UK legends.

How has your life changed since Jon Hood sold 1 of 2 2012 championship rings he has? Personally, I have lost my faith in humanity and lost a lot of sleep. Things will never be the same.

Wow, Tinky's not very smart apparently. He could of mentioned it on his facebook or twitter, then listed it on ebay and made bank .

No other pawnbroker operates like Rick Harrison, he's the fairest one out there. If they get someone else's opinion on an item's worth, the customer isn't going to hear that conversation. If you ask $100 for your item and they look it up/ask someone and get an estimate of $10,000, that customer is leaving with $100. Pawn shops generally give about 25% of what something is worth.

Maybe Hood didn't want the public knowing he sold it, the pawn shop offered like 500-a grand and he thought that was good enough, thinking it would just stay in some small town pawn shop.

Only reason I can come up with for why you wouldn't sell it online. That or he didn't know how eBay works or didn't want to mess with shipping it and PayPal and all that and just needed cash in hand.

Ya I don't get it. Hood is younger , and not an idiot . Even people my parents age understand eBay... he could have prolly gotten $10,00 PLUS (honestly probably a lot more ) if he had sold
It himself/ on eBay or louisville/ Lexington / any city in Kentucky Craigslist
