Guess got to have something to try to be positive about.People talk about potential on here all the time.Well,he's a candidate for that

So many bigs in the portal early.Ware,Edwards,Aziz,Cisse and Cal did nothing and now this is where we are......
Won't be surprised if Burks ends up a big time player wherever he ends up and just a matter of when. Would love for it to be instantly, but if you have to wait 1/2 more yrs, it's worth bringing in now. Guys who can do guard things at 6'10 have higher upside, which attracted G-League already. He's a guy who is a potential steal and worth investing in IMO.
Hart is an interesting player. Like what I've seen but know little of him. Like that he was a Big 12 recruit or someone Dawkins felt could help a team competing in Big 12.
The one thing you are looking for at this stage is material and while the Vets will be more of the must produce and they are still hoping to retain Reeves and add 1 or 2 vets---these are damn good guys to bring into the fold. Justin Edwards having to compete in practice against a 6'10 kid who can light it up--he led the OTE in scoring at 27 ppg. Big time college recruits/NBA prospects were littered in that league. This isn't some guy who played in a 1 stop sign town against 5'8 guys and dominated. He's got upside/talent. Now throw in the fact he's not seen as the "savior" or anything and it's a good addition this time of year.
Guess I'm not understanding the disappointment here. If people were saying these guys were instant All Americans who will dominant CBB....and no need to even look at older players...I understand but we're talking about good players who signed with respectable programs in Power Conferences or in case of Hart was moving to a Power Conference and are willing to compete and play a role.
Khalil couldn’t shoot like this guy can, and this guy looks like he is more fluid in his movements with the ball, I could be wrong but Khalil was stiff as hell and couldn’t shoot
From what I saw he couldn't shoot at all.
Kaluma would be an amazing get. I’d take him over Livingston, for sure. Bring Reeves back too, and a couple fillers and we’re in really good shape.

He looked good to me, I’m as frustrated as everybody else but with hart/burks and the rest of the freshman we don’t know what they are they haven’t played yet. Those two are adds and Kentucky needs them for depth now they have to go get experienced portal players for sure

If I had a choice, I'd go Kaluma. Nothing against David Jones at all, but I like the guy who came from winning program.

Because guys like this don't stay around our program long enough for the "when" they are a big time player. I wish they did, but I could spend the better part of a night telling you names that didn't. And a handful that did. For every Shai Gilgous-Alexander, I can name you several Juzangs.

Guys like Wildcat 1987 don’t want anyone other than on paper 5 stars on our roster.
God forbid UK took some multi year developmental guys to be a core. And don’t even consider some instate or tri state 3 star locals. Get back into Chicago, NY and Cali, Get those one year mercenaries! That’s what wins for UK! Remember 2012. Still would have won without Ky’s Darius Miller… correct?

Bradshaw will see some time there and there are a few options that are out there who have been mentioned that are young-may see a Grad Transfer targeted. Not a Portal guy but a guy who decides he wants to play another year and hasn't made it public yet.

I’d lean Kaluma as well. The bama guy I know says it’s them or Texas, have no idea if he is correct or not
Kaluma or jones, can contribute they have problems but they have played major mins and will help if Kentucky can’t get them

Since you are clearly the scarecrow from Oz and have no brain I'd encourage everyone else with brains to read my post on the scarecrows thread about how I only would recruit local super talented guys like Shep, DA and Miller that can help win at UK.
I dont believe in a team of 8 to 9 players from KY or 8 to 9 from a few regional states winning in today's basketball world. No other successful program is doing that.
Juzang is a guy I know personal info about due to knowing a teacher at his school who knew he didn't want to go to Kentucky. If you remember they were pushing hard for Jaden McDaniels and then Justus pivoted and convinced Cal that Juzang would stick. Cal liked Juzang's game/talent but said he'd heard he didn't want to leave Pac 12/LA area. Justus assured him which to be fair--Juzang's dad wanted the "Blueblood" National hype more than Johnny. Juzang almost split at December that year and if you remember he came back from break and was sick as a dog to the point he had to be quarantined from team. (he had Covid btw) So Juzang was heading back to LA-UCLA the second season ended if they won a NC and he started. He didn't want to leave home. Remember Jemarl Baker? Think he's on his 5th school now. Maybe just his 4th.
Key to this landscape of CBB is trying to find guys who you can develop but be prepared if they leave and they are going to leave-they leave everywhere. It sucks for those of us who grew up with a different game. It sucks for those of us who would handle the Portal differently. But it's where we are. For every "Duke kept everyone......" well they sucked Mgbako's **** for 2 1/2 yrs and he split the second Filipowski returned. Texas lost their top 2 recruits in Holland and AJ Johnson to pro basketball in the Spring period. That is brutal. Awful things happen because many players goals don't align with fans.
If I have a chance to bring in a 6'10 guy like Burks--I'm all for it. Don't care how many stars he has--if he can play. Also this is where John Welch is going to get to prove his rep and turn him loose. I don't know Welch but I don't have to. If Jerry West, Pat Riley, Hubie Brown, Larry Brown, George Karl, etc...all swear by his player development abilities and ability to take guys and work--then this type of material is what I want to give him. The biggest thing lacking in most programs is player development. UK took a hit with Payne's departure and they thought Jai Lucas would be like his Dad/Brother and he was terrible in that area. Antigua is solid with big men but Welch is legendary in NBA circles for being able to work with players. He's also been hired by Agents to get guys ready for the NBA workouts and combine, etc...So here's where that hire comes into play. Not just with the 5 star guys we know but guys like Adou Thiero, Ugonna, and someone like a Burks if you land him.

Well Kaluma is the one I'd rather have personally, so that is excellent.
Get Reeves back, land Kaluma and Burks, and 1 or two more and you'd have almost all of your scholarships full and a an extremely versatile and offensively empowered lineup.
You're going off on a tangent. I'm telling you it doesn't matter if Cal signs a guy like that because he doesn't utilize them. And you can't in good conscience tell me that he does. I'll name you several guys who could have helped but never got PT. Hopkins, Juzang, Matthews. Just this last season Reeves didn't get much PT until Cal had to play him due to injury. Cal doesn't use depth. That's what I'm telling you. Can you deny that?
You can play Edwards at the 4 spot if you wanted. Not ideal but he could do it if you had to slide Bradshaw to 5. That's where you prefer to get a Veteran too-that PF/Combo forward spot. Kaluma would be ideal here.
