Cal needs to bring on an experienced x's and o's coach where he is lacking. Not necessarily Larry Brown but someone like Brown was for Penny at Memphis, Phil Martelli in Michigan and Gene Keady coming back to be an assistant for Steve Lavin at St. John's.
John Welch in a way is that 'offensive coordinator' he wanted. In Welch's first season, the offense changed drastically, and fans were happy to see Kentucky score like they have most of this past season. No Cal team has ever hit as many 3's as this one did. 2nd highest scoring team this year and #1 in 3-point percentage in all of College Basketball. Cal's teams used to be really good on defense. What has happened lately, in particular with this bunch is beyond me. Needs to bring someone in and be willing to listen. No more 'yes men' and Cal Boys that are loyal to him that bring nothing more than an empty bench seat.

It's really not that different as you make it out to be. They are called assistant coaches and a smart coach surrounds him with coaches in areas they are lacking. You bring in someone like Welch who changed the offense. Don't need the 'coordinator' title to fill the role in basketball. For the record, it was Calipari who reportedly asked for these positions for coaches on offense/defense in the past. Not just message board fodder. Calipari needs someone that can teach defense where this team was really struggling this year. Also, someone like Robic in the past that was beneficial to him with game prep, breaking down film or get someone like I said that is older and experienced coach that can join to this staff. Don't give Cal the choice with his staff to shake it up if you are Mitch like he did with Tubby in the end. If he doesn't like it, he can leave.
