unless there is a rule in place to keep kids from leaving, doesn’t matter. Kids will leave when they want
I support 18 yr olds making their own decisions. I just don’t think they should be able to keep a team to scramble at the last minute on a change of heart. That’s unprofessional

Sure, but there still isn't anywhere TO go to for those lower recruits. Some other league or expansion would need to happen. I guess greater emphasis on euro leagues?
But the minutes we allow kids to go right out of HS, I think the college game will create a bit of a buffer as a result. Yes, we won't have the superstars, some could argue the game will be watered down in some way.
But guys like Juzang, and Matthews, and Lee, and Green.. they all left because of higher recruits coming in that were better. You won't see the transfers and there just won't be enough professional spots for these lower recruits.

Top 20 guys don’t stay 2-3 years. Need to be 50-70 guys for that.

I hope it's good news, but for some reason, this situation reminds me of a player declining that he will reclassify for months before he finally does it.
Clarke could say he's not leaving, like posts such as that, and do other things to make it seem like he's UK bound, but still opt for the G-League, anyway.
To be fair, I'm not saying that he's staying or going, but I wouldn't trust what he likes/retweets/says until he actually steps foot in Lexington (assuming there is a basketball season).
If there's no college basketball next year, there's no gleague and no nba, and we wouldn't have an nfl or college football season. Espn would be dead. Sports networks would be dead in the water.
If these kids can get this money up front, they should take it and run. At the very least they could invest in a down market and watch it ride back up (if there's a market left).
There's no reason other than greed and power that we won't have athletics next year. If they don't start opening things back up, the least of our worries will be sports. We won't be having elections either. .

its not semantics. the entire premise of being a college athlete is that you are in fact NOT A PROFESSIONAL. if you expect them to act like a professional, pay them like a professional. cant have it both ways
Positive out of this is. If he does come to Kentucky. We know we are getting a stud player. Which I believed the whole time but this just solidifies it even more.

Gotta love college b-ball in 2020 smdh. I’m all but checked out at this point. If this happens, Boston won’t be far behind. Can we even field a team next year? JFC
I would almost expect it to be honest.
Can't keep going over hypotheticals until something happens. I do think this could be the type of event that wakes up the NCAA to figure this out and save the college game from collapsing. Either figure out a way to pay college players, or just let the top recruits go, and focus on a way to retain players for more than a year.
Rod Strickland is the operations manager for the G Leagues Professional path. He is just doing his jobs and he didn’t gun for our players. He talked with several of the top recruits one of whom was Clarke. Misleading tweet. Everyone knew Green was going straight pro whether it overseas or G league. They reached out to Clarke yes. You don’t think others haven’t tried to give him money before? 500k and a shoe deal is a strong ass offer but I think he stays with UK. I do think 5-6 others will take that path.

So, there are no restrictions on "recruiting" players to a pro league? If they're even talking to a pro team's employee about the possibility, they are NEGOTIATING not recruiting, and that's already going to end someone's eligibility.
The only way this ends well for the NCAA is if they let the kids get paid by the teams while they are in college. They can be drafted and still play for their college team. They should have done this long ago, but just didn't want to lose the tax protections of amateurism I guess
By the way, Cal better have somebody on the phone that lets Clarke and Boston know that Kentucky matches any offer. No hesitation.
