State of 2025 Recruiting

There are a multitude of reasons for our OT set backs and as we know it’s a premium position. The passing of JS (RIP). LC departure (Rams came calling it get it). EW abrupt departure (Alabama came calling I get it) Lost the Vandy transfer (Alabama needed a OT I get it). Hastily had to hire an OC and OL coach with no real collegiate connections (spring ball just around the corner I get it). But it is ZY job to get connected with guys and develop them for our OL to be successful. Optimism is there for him with the addition of Christian and Bowles that they like what he is selling. It will be interesting to see how that position group works out this year. Here’s hoping he is very successful.
And it is fairly obvious now that Yenser and Marrow are focused on 2025 OTs Tucker Kattus and Rafael Greene from Cincinnati, both of whom have already UVed UK multiple times and shown high interest. It is a lot to hope for, but I think Yenser needs them. I can't find 2025 OT prospects with UK offers who seem more likely than Kattus or Greene to end up at UK, although maybe we should also keep an eye on Sandale Jackson out of Cleveland and Ameer Yasin out of Tallmadge.

Greene at 6-6 320 has the size we are looking for to start out with. He is currently a three star that will need a couple of years to tone his body up. Would like to know about his quickness and athletic ability. Kattus also currently a three star at 6-5 285, his body is already very stout. Will just need to get weight up about 35 more pounds. Both being from Cincy have to believe we would have a good shot with these two especially with Marrow involved. Would like to see at least one highly ranked OT in this class with a higher ceiling.

With Marrow involved, we may get Tucker Kattus and Rafael Greene. I expect Kattus at Kentucky because his brothers Josh and Justin are already Wildcats. Greene made it known that he likes our coaches. Both need couple years in our program to get ready to play, but we need them.

It begs the question, can Yenser recruit top OL players outside of Ohio and Kentucky without Marrow helping? Can Yenser recruit McRoy and Daniels? Yenser needs wins of his own.

The recruiting progress Coach Marrow has made in the Cincinnati area since 2014 has been impressive. To a large extent, his success has been built at Lakota West, Moeller, and Winton Woods. But I know of 15 UK offers to 2024 prospects in the Cincinnati area, and most of them don't attend those three schools. So looks like Marrow is diversifying and proliferating in the Cincinnati area now.

Tenser is in over his head

He will be gone soon
Yenser was UK's primary recruiter for Koby Keenum. So far, he has whiffed on 2024 recruiting, but the signing date is still 5 months away. On several occasions, I have expressed an opinion that "the book is still out" on Yenser. It can reasonably be argued that Yenser's 2022 troubles had to do with losing Luke Fortner, Darian Kinnard, and Dare Rosenthal plus the neverending struggles of Coach Scan. After all, that's a lot of baggage for a first year OL coach to handle. So far, it is a small sample. So when you definitively declare Yenser is "in over his head and will be gone soon", I think you are way out on a limb there. I won't be surprised if you turn out to be right about this. But I also wouldn't be surprised if Yenser and Coen turn everything around and score big this fall. We just don't know what kind of impact Burton will have as our C and Ford and Cox will have as our OTs. Not to mention that Devin Leary does not stand in the pocket indecisively for long periods of time without getting the football out of his hand. I don't know this yet, but my suspicion is that our offense will be improved and Yenser will receive some of the credit for it. But OTOH, if our OL blows a bunch of assignments again, then you will soon be compared to Carnac the Magnificent.

I know Yenser was listed as the primary, but I was told by someone that knows, that srake worked hard to get Keenum. I was even told about his and Drakes calls before the MSU visit. Drake is a lot pf the reason Keenum is here

First of all, I am a fan of Jackson and hope he stays on our staff for a long time in one capacity or another. Great player, leader, high football IQ, good communication skills. Your source could be right about Keenum.

No primary recruiter works in a vacuum. Recruiting is a team effort. Often, when a secondary recruiter makes a call, the primary recruiter is visiting or talking with another prospect. Big Dog is primary recruiter for Johnson and Selm, but Yenser helped with both. Woodward is primary recruiter for Lafontant, but Yenser helped. I point out that Yenser was Keenum's primary recruiter because it is the only recruiting win Yenser has had as a primary. He was also the primary recruiter for Ramsey, but Ramsey is a no-show so far. My opinion is that Yenser has not proven himself yet, but hasn't had enough time to prove himself or fail. Last year, he was a first year position coach for an OL that just lost Fortner, Kinnard, and Rosenthal, and he was saddled with Scan. Maybe Yenser helped to make Scan look bad, or maybe Scan made Yenser look bad. IDK yet. This is a big season for Yenser. That's all I am saying.

As of now, here are 2025 instate prospects reportedly holding UK scholarship offers-

Austin Alexander, LB, Union
Aveion Chenault, WR, Lexington
Brock Driver, LB, Danville
Antonio Harris, slotR, Louisville
Montavin Quisenberry, slotR, Danville
Makhi Smith, DB, Versailles
Isaac Sowells, OL/DL, Louisville

Alexander, Quisenberry, and Chanault appear to be hard takes. Their offer sheets are already fairly impressive. I am not suggesting the other four players are not takes. Maybe they are, we will see. That may depend on the status of out of state players at their positions on UK's 2025 board. I know the Big Dog has already given attention to Sowells, who reportedly holds two SEC offers now.

The Big Dog will have two big battles on his hands to keep Alexander and Chenault at home. We are still nearly 19 months from the signing date, but at this point I think the Big Dog will prevail, and both players will choose blue and white. IDK, but it's possible that one of these two could even become our first 2025 commit.

Still just spitballing here, five out of state candidates to possibly become our first 2025 commit would be QB Stone Saunders from PA, WR Quinton Simmons from Cincinnati, OL Tucker Kattus out of Cincinnati, OL Rafael Greene out of Cincinnati, and LB Dante McClellan out of Canton. Coach Coen is recruiting Saunders while Coach Marrow is recruiting the other four. I believe we will eventually sign at least a couple of these five.

Saunders is commiting in August. He will be UK's 1st '25 commit. Hopefully it gets off to a fast start and keeps rolling

He wasn't overly fast, but great change of direction & acceleration. Would think that would translate great to an edge rusher.
He was good with the Seahawks. I don't know much about his nephew but sounds like he is going to be good

Saunders will be a huge start to the '25 class. Would love to lock down the younger Kattus and Trevin Wallace's brother Tavion. Also would love to see a push for Moe William's son Amaree but that may be tough. Kid is an elite elite talent.

Week away. Anything can happen but UK is in great shape
Judging by the prospect's lavish public remarks about Coach Coen and his offensive system, I am feeling good about this one. The relationship between Coen and Saunders' father is the clincher. Looks like Saunders may well become UK's first public 2025 commit. The beauty of this is that an early commitment from a headliner QB typically supercharges offensive recruiting for a class.

I feel good about Tucker Kattus and would be kind of surprised if we don't get him. UK has to be considered the favorite. Tavion Wallace and Amaree Williams will be tougher, but UK is in the hunt for both. Another to keep an eye on is OL Rafael Greene out of Cincinnati.

Everything I see now is looking favorable for Stone Saunders to become the first commitment in our 2025 class in early August. As this thread shows, I am not alone in that thinking.

Here are some other names with a pretty good chance to commit to UK fairly early in the 2025 recruiting cycle IMHO. I am not necessarily predicting all of these prospects will end up at UK, but UK's recruiting momentum is strong with them at this point.

Sam Afari, DB, W Chester, OH
Austin Alexander, LB, Union, KY
Mason Alexander, DB, Fishers, IN
Aveion Chenault, WR, Lexington, KY
Rafael Greene, OL, Cincinnati, OH
Justin Hill, LB, Cincinnati, OH
Sandale Jackson, OL, Cleveland, OH
Tucker Kattus, OL, Cincinnati, OH
Dante McClellan, LB, Canton, OH
Quinton Simmons, WR, Cincinnati, OH

I have not included Amaree Williams or Tavion Wallace on this list. Expectations are high among our fans because Williams' Dad played for UK and Wallace's older brother is a current Wildcat. UK's coaches will recruit both vigorously, but both are being offered by a majority of SEC programs and will be difficult to sign. If it happens, it won't be quick.

With GA and Michigan in his top five that will be a huge get. Would ensure us having at least two very high ranked QB's on the roster at the same time. Probably been a while since that has happened.

Supercharged offensive class has a nice ring to it.

Excellent news.
Well, we know getting a guy like this out of CA is a long shot but it says something that he is interested enough to visit. Also, maybe he is a guy that might want to play semi pro football and not worrying about staying close to home. Just good to know our recruiting is seriously hitting the whole country and making some headway.

QB Stone Saunders out of Harrisburg, PA, became the first commit to UK's 2025 recruiting class today. Saunders reportedly holds at least three SEC and six B10 offers and is being recruited by Coach Coen.
Had Boley stayed in the ‘25 class, would any of you take him over Saunders? I wouldn’t. And Boley is great prospect. Phenomenal actually. But Saunders is legit. The kid’s film is really impressive. I mean really impressive. Especially considering he was a Sophomore. Gatorade Player of the Year in Pennsylvania…as a Sophomore. Kid is the real deal. No doubt about it.

All I know is, our chances of having a SEC caliber QB for the next years is at about 100%.

Being interesting if UK goes after Corbin's QB Kade Elam who would be 2025 recruit. He committed to UL for Baseball in his Freshman year. He has been to UK Camp and supposedly really shined. The kid got a rocket of an arm and is or will be a 4 Star QB

They plan on taking 2 qbs. Saunders is on board with that also.
