State of 2022 Recruiting

Rock, do you expect Key to announce for us this week ?

If it happens, it moves us into a “tie” for 19th on Rivals with BC, each with 1,500 points.

I put quotation marks around the word “tie,” as BC has 21 commits, and only three are 4 Stars. Key would give us our 16th commit and our 7th Four Star.

At an average star rating of 3.46, we’’d then be 16th.

I hope we find a way to sign 21, and drop our kicker out of the computation. We’d end up Top 15, if the final five names are the more prominent ones mentioned the last page of this thread.

No. Some rumors that Alabama had something they wanted him to fulfill academically that he had not done. Again, that is NOT verified.
I heard the same, but not much more than chat room speculation that can't be confirmed from a reliable source. I'd say that rumor is fairly likely a planted save face rumor for Bama to avoid the shame of losing one to UK.

Ya'll are wearing out Rock_Cat78...

Should all pitch in and send him some bourbon or something?!

Go CATS!

I'm in for it!

Rock_Cat, do you need a McKenna 10yr? Friend has an extra he'd be willing to part with if ya like.

Much like Cal when he backs off a player, Saban is probably not going to get burned by dropping out of this recruitment. He must feel he's more trouble than he's worth.
Nothing wrong with UK rolling the dice though. He's by far the highest ranked WR that has shown serious interest in UK and honestly if this kid was an honor student we would have no shot.
How do you know he isn't an honor student?

Because I read a football forum that he wasn't and everything on that has to be true.
I've only seen it one place and that was a Vols site. I haven't actually seen it on a Bama site, but admittedly I haven't spent too much time looking for it.

I mean, we had a decent year last year. We're obviously accumulating a lot of talent. Our problem this year is at the LOS - most of those guys are Fedora holdovers and/or from Mack's first class which was not as solid as the last two. The '20 and '21 classes will be really good. They're just young and inexperienced, especially with the Covid year, so they're not getting a lot of burn right now.

The brand helps, but Mack has also recruited North Carolina really well. Greensboro isn't that far from Chapel Hill. Guys like Shaw can stay close to home and play with everyone he knows from high school ball. Same goes for Rice. They've known each other since they were like five or six years old. And Lynchburg isn't too awfully far. We'll probably end up with six of Virginia's top eight recruits. Good players want to play with other good players.

You think that they would want to play for good teams as well. Hadnt seen you posting too much the last couple months like you was preseason when unc was ranked.

What do you know about the ILB Martin who I understand is a 4*. He visited over the last home game or two

We don't but I would doubt it.
BB seems to be a bit of a late bloomer so idk how good he was as an 8th grader or frosh. If he was a stud then and had his head on right, he probably wouldn't be playing at Pearl-Conn.
It would be like Micheal Bush or Rondale Moore playing at Central.
Central has a nice program but they don't have many d-1 kids.

What does playing at a small school or being a late bloomer have to do with academics? Is he a late bloomer? Could it be the reason he is rising late is due to the fact he is at a smaller school with less eyes on it. Or that covid wiped out the camps and he didn't get seen? Or could it be that is where he lives bad his mom kept him there? Lots of reasons that have nothing to do with academics or talent. Damien Harris was from Richmond but his mom chose to take him to Madison Southern. He still became the #1 RB in the country

So you can only sign 25 recruits and add 7 portal players? Or you can sign 32 total regardless but only 25 count? So potential 32 HS kids as an example?
No 7 have to come from the portal not high school the portal number is limited by the number of players that have left your team if 5 went to the portal then you could get 5 from the portal

I know this is the rule but there has to be some grey area in it. Penn State currently has 26 commitments and seem to be recruiting other players. Last year Bama signed 27. I've seen others do this too

seems like the blue bloods do this a lot

Will do. Should know this afternoon.

@Rock_Cat78. how do I get it to you, sir? Are you near Lexington?

Nashville area high schools recruit like hell.
Same for Louisville or any metro area.
Don't understand the DH analogy. Richmond/Madison is not a metro area.
If DH had grown up in Louisville, he would have been and Trinity,St X or Male.

You doubt it without a single shred of evidence and it seems you discount the fact that he goes to a highly academic magnet school. I'm not saying he is because I have no idea, but it's frustrating when people make declarative statements, especially derogatory ones, without supporting their thesis.

Do you realize how many football players Pearl-Cohn has sent to D-1, and even to NFL???

You may want to read up on this high school's football history. (Past & Recent)

Not every high profile kid goes to a big school. Damien was recruited and his mom chose to take him to a smaller school. Richmond/Berea have had several kids recruited to Lex Cath/Christian, one just grad FD. Goodwin is a Louisville kid, that ended up at a small 3a school in Indiana. Yes it was the relationship with his trainer that got him and was prob best for him. There are lots of other reasons kids don't transfer to the high profile schools. Trinity recruited WanDale, on the high school forums most expected him to go, but he stayed at western hills. Weaver went to doss. Casey left trinity and went to Ballard.

Highly academic is really not a true statement. It's a middle of road at best Davidson co public school. It's a lot like Lou. Central. They would be 2 or 3a in KY.

All I have to say about the Brown issue of whether or not he will be on campus if he signs with us. Just look at Stoops track record how many players have we signed since he's been here that haven't made it on campus? Probably could count them all on 1 hand.

UK just picked up a Crystal Ball for Elijah Reed (Pleasure Ridge Park) by Josh Edwards with a confidence of 7. Somethings may have changed in the background and he may have a committable offer.

Yeah, mainly because people like you got all salty because we took that top RB you offered. Weird how I don't remember you talking so much last year.

I'm here all the time. I was on HOB which is the paid site for several years. Decided to join the ranks again on the Lair board and dredge through the B.S. on here.

I certainly don't get salty over losing a recruit. I'm confident in our RB room as it is.

Your team wasn't all that last season either. After we finally fired Gran and Hinshaw you can see what we are capable of.

And it's only gonna keep getting better.

When I go over to the unc board and gloat then you can call me out

Lol. Might wanna make sure you can beat our little brother by at least a FG before you gloat too much.

And yeah it's pretty obvious you're salty over our recruiting. But honestly you're probably never going to recruit as well as us. We have a strong brand in-state (NC typically has more HS talent than KY), and historically we've had the better program. Congrats on the hot start though!

ETA: BTW YOU'RE the one that started the thread about the RB. So, it's not like I was off topic or derailing a thread - like you just did tonight.

UNC fans thought they had a Heisman QB and a playoff team. But those delusions were destroyed by week 2. Week2!!!

VT, GT, and FSU (the 3-4 triplets). ‘Yikes!!! 3-3 in the ACC. The freak’n ACC.

Seems like a bad time to go puff your inverted chest on an opposing fan site.

Might want to read up. I'm not the one that started it. Just facts bud. Like I said, congrats on the hot start, and good luck rest of the way!
