I don't see how anyone could be 100% satisfied with the hire . I like Pope's messaging, fans and school first. Love it. Love his passion for UK. But if passion and taglines won NCAA titles we'd have 200 of them. We're banking on this guy being our Hurley. He has 0 NCAAT wins, he coached at a midmajor and then a religious school. Unknown in recruiting circles. We very much have a guy who is learning on the job still. And when you look at the optics around his hire. With the swim team scandal coming out right after Pope was hired. Implicating Mitch Banrhart. It just screams a safe and panic hire for UK.

People laugh at UK and aren't afraid of us anymore. The popular narrative even if it's wrong. Is we got turned down by everybody and had to scramble and hire a former player.

Your job in recruiting is to persuade a player to come play for you. The elite recruiters can get kids in insane circumstances. They get it done. They don't make excuses.

He was hired 45 days ago. And he didn't have a staff/roster until a week in.
It's still way too early to say if he's an elite recruiter or not.
Nothing he can do. If he wants to go pro then all kentucky can do is congratulate him and find somebody else. But it will be counted as miss, which is stupid because you can’t miss on somebody if there weren’t an option(assuming he stays in the draft).
They got somebody literally 2 days after Mahaney who is just as good as he is if not better. Laneir they tried and he went to the school that got him out into the portal to begin with.
He can be the most elite recruiter in the country. It doesn't matter anymore. It's about what size bag you can provide. Anyone suggesting anything else is living in a fantasy world. Or more likely, they just don't want to face up to that's why we are not landing the elite players.
If one stipulates standards then it is a license to toss reason out the window allowing one to chalk up such trifles as free will and even physics (given the opportunity and runway) as "excuses".
