Sources Say Live Now (Jaxson decision countdown)

Good post until I saw “bridge year”. If you’re afraid of a KP situation, how confident are you in Pope, really?

It’s because of the way Calipari left and how long Pope had to build his roster. Had the transition been different things might have been different for a guy like McKneely or even Lanier. But recruiting is a game of relationships and with the NIL the way it is I never thought this season would be a title year.

Just listen to some of this stuff. I realize a few in this thread are trolls but there’s also a few that are real fans who believe Pope should have built a CHAMPIONSHIP ROSTER in A MONTH on this job. It’s not even close to being realistic. Fairly stupid honestly.

I don’t know if Pope is going to work, I think chances are he will. Highly intelligent guy with a blue blood and a winners pedigree. But I do know I’m not making a decision based on his inability to perform magic and get McKneely or Lanier on campus. Just too much working against that.

Thanks to the obvious trolls. Hopefully this lets the normal people here know for sure who is a troll and put you on ignore

Yea for sure. They’re outing themselves. One of them has 3 accounts at least and has been caught making the same typo mistakes on all 3. I’m literally going ignore in the thread because there’s no way an actual knowledgeable person would have those opinions based of what we have to work with this offseason.

I’m as die hard, win or die, gtfo of that seat type as anyone here. But even I can’t get there this offseason. If someone is then they’re probably one of the Arkansas / Tennessee / UL trolls that we’ve seen a spike in lately.

Focusing on the positives:

G Butler- played for a national title in ‘23.
G Kriisa- played for a 1 seed in ‘23, starter/double digit scorer in the Big 12 last season.
G Oweh- starter/double digit scorer in the Big 12 last year.
G Brea- last year’s national leader in 3 point shooting percentage, double digit scorer on a NCAA tourney team last season (and won a tourney game).
G Chandler- former 4-star, 21 year old Freshman who has grown 2 inches while on his mission.
G Perry- Mr. Kentucky basketball and state champion.
G Noah- runner-up in state, losing to Perry’s team, was committed to a SEC team.
F Carr- starter/double digit scorer in the ACC last year.
F Almonor- starter on a NCAA tourney team in ‘23 that won two games including one against 1 seed Purdue.
F Williams- 3 time CAA DPOY.
F Garrison- starter in the Big 12 last season.

Just about everyone of them can shoot and pass, which is critical in Pope’s system.

We may lack a sexy superstar type, but I am okay with that. Those types didn’t get us very far the last few years.

Pope wanted all the players on our team and yet here are people not thinking they are good enough

With Robinson Pope sees the potential if he gets more efficient and that’s fair. But it’s still a risk , he’s a take but not a savior.

We don’t need a savior. Just one more good player
Do you have any eligibility left?

I agree. I think he did a pretty good job given the time and circumstances he had. I think next off season when he's had a full year to recruit, and demonstrate his product on the national stage, is when we will get a more accurate picture of how well he can recruit. Plus, he's not done yet. There is still a couple of college guys left, plus foreign players and there always seems to be surprises we know nothing about. I have a feeling we will get one more really good player before it's all said and done.

Are you actually this desperate for attention or can you just not help but pick an argument with every poster on this board? Asking for a friend.

Yes because everyone has to share your opinion or they are a troll. You have gone downhill Morg.

Like it's your f'ng money. Sit down.
Davis or Mahaney I could see but I don't think Osobor is that level of a difference making upgrade in this system and roster over Williams and Garrison to be worth the spend.

I think he will have big numbers but I also think they will feed the crap out of him too.

Osobor handwringing smells of wanting bragging rights from pointing at a ranking rather than what one anticipates he would have added.

It isn't like he is skilled enough to generate offense out of structure, he is a reliable post scorer so valuable but limited in what he can do and realistically could be surpassed by Garrison by the end of the year.

Popes offense doesn’t need a guy who can create, the offense and the system create the looks. It’s nice to have a guy who can create and I want a wing who can score but the offense doesn’t necessarily need it. Osobor would have been nice but that price tag ridiculous
I disagree. Every offensive system can be defended properly if you have the right coaching and personal.
While the current roaster is well build under circumstances it still has holes at 4 and 3.

There are teams that we are going to have to play that have superior talent: Alabama, Florida, Duke…

Exactly man. How about at least allowing him to recruit a kid for a few months, after recruits have seen him at UK for at least 1 game. Maybe let him have time to even give a pitch or one thing lol.

Recruits will have a better idea of what we are given some time. This is just how it was going to be.

McKneely a wiff? So absurd. Like I said I’m usually one of the first that will pull the plug on a UK coach. We’ve got too many records to uphold we can’t exactly screw around. But sanity is sanity.

Carr is not a hole at the 4. Saying that is crazy . And Owen and Noah are capable. If Hayes , Barkley and a slew of 6’5 guys can play the 4 well it’s possible for those 2 also

What hole do they have at the 4? Carr is starting. This offense schemes guys open, it’s not guys beating there defender 1vs1. There is a good YouTube video that highlights pope and fruegers offense. It doesn’t hurt to have a guy who can get to the rim but the offense itself gets people open.

If we don't add anyone I think next season will be eye opening for certain people. It will be interesting to see if anyone changes their opinion.

Key word there is “think” nobody truly knows. But what a lot of us are tying to say is the roster is better on paper than some are acting like. I also don’t think they won’t add anybody.

The handwringing for 41% FG and 30 % 3pt FG against power teams is crazy people. Like to have him for potential but he’s not a savior
The staff is working hard with Bamba and Wells (if he opts out of the draft) so as long as we get Robinson or one of them, we're still golden

Robinson is loyal to Pope, Kansas wouldnt have a prayer unless Pope didnt want to pay the NIL
Idk man, seems like you wanted him?

If you are trying to build a winner, you need winners, which is why I would love to add Poplar. He was a starter on a Final Four team in ‘23. So he has four NCAA tourney wins on his resume. I would take Robinson because he played for Pope, but Poplar is a proven winner and I think that’s an overlooked stat.

Pope is high risk high reward. If he works, we’ve got potentially our modern goat who’s a UK alumn and champion. The chance of that doesn’t come around that often and we have it. Given the state of college basketball, and our timeframe after a guy like Calipari who always leaves programs in rubble, this is a good opportunity to see what can be made of a guy like Pope. It will require some patience and a little understanding in the early throws.

I’m not speaking to the rival fan trolls littering the thread, but to the real fans that are concerned. Pope was a good move / risk just be patient, if it doesn’t work we’ll be ready for the bigger hire the next time around. If he does work he never leaves until retirement and we have our guy. Chill out and let this unfold over the next 24 months.

Are you a fan of Watkins from FSU. I saw where Kentucky might have interest earlier this week from a nba guy
