Seems kind of risky to me.

Risky?

Leaving the land of Virginia, UNC, Duke, NC State, and Maryland where all of those teams likely recruit much better than VCU, for one of only four schools in Texas that have decent basketball programs and a PLETHORA of talent to be recruited. His style of play also will make recruits jump to play for him at the major state school.

I think the risk was higher to stay at VCU and have to battle through the huge dips in successes and fighting against all of those ACC teams for recruits.

I like Shaka Smart, and I think he's a good coach, but I don't think he'll ever succeed at Texas. It's a cultural misfit.

Just MHO, of course.
