This is really bad and no other way to put it.He's leaving without doubt and so much for our great class. This might cost us a championship next season. It reminds me of the time my daughter had her first breakup when she was 14. The world was ending. She couldn't go on. She'd never like another boy again.
I know this is going to sound harsh, but this is one stupid post. In NO way will UK see anything positive from this if he never plays here! Helping in practice? Are you freaking serious? Cal and the program will look like patsies which is exactly what they will be if he never plays. You can’t claim anything positive about signing the # 1 player if he never steps on the floor. This is a win/win gamble for Cal IMO.
1. He stays and UK gets a guy who is the number 1 recruit in the country and who has a half a year of practices with the team under his belt. So, he should be even further along than almost any other freshman in the country in 2022/2023.
2. He leaves to the NBA draft. Well, UK still got him for the second half of the season, where they could use him in practice, a luxury no other team has. Now our guards and forwards have increased competition every day, which only helps them to improve for this year and beyond. We have an open scholarship, so we didn't waste this on him when we could have used it on someone else.
3. Even if he doesn't log minutes in a game, Cal and UK will still claim him if he does well in the NBA. They'll still prop him up as someone that Cal helped to mold into a better player. That can only continue to help us in recruiting.
I just don't see the downside other than it just being a buzz kill that we as fans don't get to see him in games.
I'd love to see Cal just walk up to him in the middle of one of these next few games and point to him and tell him to go in. Be interesting to see the reaction on Sharpe's face. What BS.Cal has to play him now or we will never see him play at UK.
He making a million dollars or more without the agent fees . That’s not chump change
When you put it this way .This guy was the best NBA prospect at EYBL in the deepest HS class in 30 years according to NBA scouts. Imagine Anthony Davis enrolling early in 2010 and then leaving before that 2011-2012 season.
Sharpe will play here next year IMO. A hole at the SF spot if he does leave? Livingston, Wallace, Frederick, Toppin, Brooks. Believe we will have a more than serviceable wing group next year regardless1. This was not a shock to Cal....but he let Sharpe come on board anyway. And Cal has an idea of Sharpe truly plans to come back for 2022 - 23 collegiate season. All the other sideshow blurbs are Cal baloney....plain and simple.
2. Here is the rub for UK fans....
- We are never building for a title but for the year we are in. Can the current team win it all w/o Sharpe. Maybe but I'd say Saturday will go along way toward making that call. So if we arent' a solid favorite...we need Sharpe right now
- And then on to 2022-23 team. We have probably lost the #1 player and SF player to play alongside of the Fr next year and holdovers like Collins, Ware, Hopkins, etc... We thought Center was our main hole left to fill...now we have a hole at the SF spot as well...and we've not gotten other top wings in that class as we took Sharpe's commitment and thought we were done.
If we come up short with this year's team and now next year's team will have holes....fans are going to have their reactions and i hitnk they have a very good reason to not be happy.
negative nancy here they comeHe won't play until he's drafted by a team. NBA GM i mean coach cal never had plans for him to play. Hopefully well be a top 20 team next year. We lose a lot once again and restart
You honestly and truly believe that Sharpe, being projected as a top 5-10 pick, and eligible for the draft, will return and play here next year? Really?Sharpe will play here next year IMO. A hole at the SF spot if he does leave? Livingston, Wallace, Frederick, Toppin, Brooks. Believe we will have a more than serviceable wing group next year regardless
Jesus you’re brainwashed. Give me one reason or example you have that leads you to believe Cal will encourage a top 5 pick to come back?Sharpe will play here next year IMO. A hole at the SF spot if he does leave? Livingston, Wallace, Frederick, Toppin, Brooks. Believe we will have a more than serviceable wing group next year regardless
Did having him prevent us from recruiting another elite SF?Board meltdown on something that hasn't even happened. Lighten up folks, it's not the end of the world whether this 18 year old plays here. It's not like it's costing us any huge amount of money or a lost scholarship. If he plays he might be really good, if not then we just don't have him.
Me either. Some people act like this is new.I don’t even see how this surprises anyone?
Shit on the fans. I always laugh at this ''but the chidins! oh god save the chidins!'' this guy is getting a porsche and millions of dollars for sitting on the bench. He's a paid professional. What do you think will happen if he gets to the NBA and sucks? Who will be there to protect him from those NBA teams fans on twitter? You?If you want to know why Cal and UK tried to keep this quiet, look no further than this thread. People already have him out the door and bad mouthing the kid because of what they think will happen. I hate to even think about what the kids twitter feed will look like. For all the good in our fanbase, comment and personal attacks on the kid/Cal are really detrimental to the program. These types of reactions are exactly why UK would take all the steps to keep this information quiet and they should. None of us on the thread has any right to know these things. If we hear them fine, but we certainly do not have the right to hear them. This isn't our information. It's the kid's and the university's to do with as they choose.
It already came out.Not going to lie, if it comes out that Calipari knew this and deliberately held this info from the fanbase, I'm going to be absolutely pissed off. You've essentially allowed this kid to pretend to be a student for a semester, use our facilities free of charge, and for what?
this guy is the most negative and bashing of the head coach that is on here.Find a new team
People can't be this stupid.Of course he will leave and for millions so would I.You honestly and truly believe that Sharpe, being projected as a top 5-10 pick, and eligible for the draft, will return and play here next year? Really?
How interested would you be if you were a projected top-ten draft pick even though you’d never played a single college game? And how do we know he has no interest of playing here? He might not, but how do we know yet?
So, just let the inmates run the asylum? Yeah, that’ll work out well in the long run.But there is still a chance he does end up playing, and it is worth taking the chance on a talent like him if you have that chance.
If anyone is irritated, they shouldn’t be. For starters, the details of Sharpe’s educational record are none of our business. Is anyone irritated that Cal intentionally hid this from fans?
Going through that with my daughter right now. Crazy kids.It reminds me of the time my daughter had her first breakup when she was 14. The world was ending. She couldn't go on. She'd never like another boy again.
What he should be doing is recruiting the best players to win college games. So you're saying he uses all the available resources to recruit the best players he can. Good for him. It's delusional to not recruit or take a kid like Sharpe even if he goes to the draft. Worth the shot.
People can't be this stupid.Of course he will leave and for millions so would I.
That cool plaque of all the UK players in NBA jerseys will look sweet with a pic of Sharpe in a magic jersey. Coming to you in 2022-2023!What he should be doing is recruiting the best players to win college games.
What he has been doing, is recruiting the best players that he can get drafted. There's a big difference.
A professional athlete is different than a college athlete. At least those fans, will post on twitter about things he did on the court. They won't post on what they think he will do in the future. He is also from Canada so he isn't getting a porsche or paid millions of dollars for sitting on the bench. Fans like you really do make us all look bad. They don't owe you a damn thing. Do everyone a favor and just STFU! If you don't like things, root for another team. I can promise you that no one will miss your dumb ass.Shit on the fans. You?
TOTAL. BS.If anyone is irritated, they shouldn’t be. For starters, the details of Sharpe’s educational record are none of our business.
Secondly, Cal is legally prohibited from sharing that publicly unless he first received written permission that explicitly authorized him to do so. So even if he wanted to make it known, Cal’s hands were tied.
