Shaedon Sharpe eligible for the 2022 NBA draft

If both UK and Sharpe knew he'd be eligible for the draft, and still came to UK, I almost feel better because why even come to UK for 3 months if you knew. If he's already projected top 10, being at UK 3 months will have zero affect on that. Why have practice limits and school work like college players do. Just go prepare for the draft if that's the plan all along.

4-5 months of college is pretty fun

This is a win/win gamble for Cal IMO.

1. He stays and UK gets a guy who is the number 1 recruit in the country and who has a half a year of practices with the team under his belt. So, he should be even further along than almost any other freshman in the country in 2022/2023.

2. He leaves to the NBA draft. Well, UK still got him for the second half of the season, where they could use him in practice, a luxury no other team has. Now our guards and forwards have increased competition every day, which only helps them to improve for this year and beyond. We have an open scholarship, so we didn't waste this on him when we could have used it on someone else.

3. Even if he doesn't log minutes in a game, Cal and UK will still claim him if he does well in the NBA. They'll still prop him up as someone that Cal helped to mold into a better player. That can only continue to help us in recruiting.

I just don't see the downside other than it just being a buzz kill that we as fans don't get to see him in games.
Comebak, I usually love your responses.

This take is not one of your best.

The QB that went to Ohio St. early never played a snap for Ohio St and has already left, supposedly he got over a million dollars, you gotta roll the dice with these kinda players. I still think he will play this year.

Coming to KY is getting him NIL money. KY’s Basketball program is supposedly making the most NIL money of any team in the Country. Obviously he wanted some spending money before the draft.

Hilarious, I said it many times. The NBA will make an exception and find a way to draft this kid. They make the rules, so they can create a loophole if they want.

I was told I was wrong and I didn’t know what I was talking about. Welp, I was spot on.

Now we have Kyle Tucker saying this was always known. Really, that's news to me, everything that has been said up to now has been that he is not eligible for the draft.

Well for Ohio St fans at least he left because the guy in front of him ended up being a stud . If Sharpe leaves it doesn’t seem like we have anyone that plays his position that is as good as him .

NIL money is peanuts compared to what agents and managers get these guys. He didn't come to UK for NIL money, he would have gotten 5-10x that amount had he just signed with an agent.

Board meltdown on something that hasn't even happened. Lighten up folks, it's not the end of the world whether this 18 year old plays here. It's not like it's costing us any huge amount of money or a lost scholarship. If he plays he might be really good, if not then we just don't have him.

Well this is news I serioulsy didn't expect. Thought the rule would prevent it.

Be shocked if he played now. Too much to lose at this point. But let's be honest, we seen our share of freshman, even great freshman. Would you really want him thrown into that environment last night or Saturday after being here for like two weeks?

Players play, yada yada yada. I think that environment would have swallowed him up. Just hope this doesn't distract us from where we are now. Next year just got a little tougher though.

Oh well, a bird in the hand.....

Is anyone irritated that Cal intentionally hid this from fans?
Absolutely, I am! That has me convinced more than anything he never plays in a game for us.
BS like this can really cause team turmoil!
I could not practice with a teammate that never plans on playing in a game to help our team. I’d flatten his ass every chance I got in practice.
Maybe that’s why Cal only has him doing individual workouts 🙄

This guy was the best NBA prospect at EYBL in the deepest HS class in 30 years according to NBA scouts. Imagine Anthony Davis enrolling early in 2010 and then leaving before that 2011-2012 season.

It reminds me of the time my daughter had her first breakup when she was 14. The world was ending. She couldn't go on. She'd never like another boy again.

He making a million dollars or more without the agent fees . That’s not chump change

You're wrong, if he DOESN'T play here then Cal DIDN'T recruit a number 1, and Cal's entire philosophy and modus operandi at the University of Kentucky is shattered.

ESPECIALLY if Cal knew about this and deliberately kept it hidden. Now he's a shyster and a con artist. A liar.
