Shaedon Sharpe eligible for the 2022 NBA draft

He needs to play or be released from the team if he has no intention of playing. Imagine if Oscar or Tyty said, “we’ll think I’ll sit for the rest of the year, coach. Prep for the draft.”

Hes on scholarship, he’s taking advantage of facilities/coaching, getting NIL, and more college tail than he can handle I’m sure. Lol. He needs to play and should’ve been already getting worked in. This would’ve never been acceptable in fans eyes before Cal. And yes, 💯 Cal and Sharpe knew the deal from the get go.

But hey, it’ll count towards another draft pick for the resume and another player we never knew who we are supposed to care about in the league.

At home against MSU next week or at home against Vandy the following week are the key ones for me. If we don't see him in either, then I for sure don't think we see him this year.

If he doesn’t play this year, he’ll never play for us. Anyone that thinks he’s here next year is severely delusional.

We aren’t going to be the top program when Cal leaves. We’re closer to becoming Indiana than becoming what UK was. Duke is going to become the new top program. And some of these guys will say that’s fine because it doesn’t mean anything. YOU JUST HATE CAL!!!!!
Duke is the top program. If you go around America you'll notice it's hard to get people to talk about college basketball but when it comes up only people Sent to talk about duke. If you bring up Kentucky they just say 'yeah they are good sometimes. But the hate or talk they have for Duke is ND and Bama football. BTW around 2005 or was UK as even with that. But duke is the biggest brand.

One of you guys who keeps acting like this situation is so clear cut and there’s just absolutely no imaginable way that Cal might not have been 100% certain that Sharpe was always going to be eligible and was never going to play might want to ya know, explain that argument at some point instead of just repeating it as fact. There are people *still today* arguing that it’s not a lock.

This is a result of ESPN, east coast media and ACC alum talking heads making it the case.

I’ll be honest here
I really don’t give a shit about a player who has not played for us. This doesn’t affect my life in any way, except maybe enjoyment of watching him play (assuming his game translates to the college level) UK can afford to let this kid ride the bench and do whatever…doesn’t hurt any of us financially and at this point I think it would be a detriment to to team If he came in and started taking minutes from someone who earned them
If Cal knew he knew. I’m not naive enough to think he is totally innocent. My thought is Cal got him here more to keep him from going elsewhere, where he might be convinced to stay
next year

I'm actually pretty bummed out about this.

I thought if he played this season we went from very good to great. It's disappointing. Just because he seems like that marquee player we haven't been getting in recent years.
It's just more proof that the NBA draft takes priority at this program and that’s a total slap in the face of the BBN

I remember the same stuff was said on this forum about Diallo. That he wouldn’t be back. And there is not one poster on here, not one, that knows Sharpe is declaring for the draft this year. Yet the drama and great gnashing of teeth has reached a fever pitch. It’s comical.

Diallo should’ve played that first year as well imo. If I remember correctly his draft stock and feedback wasn’t great and he returned.

Once again, you have no idea if Sharpe leaves after this year. None. Zero. And neither does anyone else. And Diallo meltdown is similar in that no one knows what each individual in either case would do in January of those years. Yet the assumption on here by a lot of posters is Sharpe is gone.

Diallo was NEVER projected to go in the top 6.

EVERY kid that has been projected to go that high has NOT been allowed to return to UK OR Memphis. Dejuan Wagner comes to mind because Cal uses his situation as his reasoning behind URGING kids to go to the draft if they are projected that high.

You know it's the truth. That is WHY a lot of our fans believe Sharpe NEVER plays at UK. You have to admit that it's DEFINITELY reasonable to feel that way no matter what has been said up to this point by the kid or Cal.

He tried pretty hard to go though.

Do you recall @Louis_Skunt 's crazy rant when Diallo waited until the last minute to announce he was returning to UK?

Big difference between Diallo and Sharpe though, Sharpe is generational, Diallo was just an NBA prospect.

You seriously think a top 5 pick will turn down millions to return to UK?

I’ve not seen Sharpe play even in a high school game. But apparently he will be a top draft pick no matter what. However, Sharpe knew when he came to UK he was draft eligible. And has still stated he planned on returning to UK next year. Now I have NO idea whether he leaves after this year or not. But not one damn person on this board knows either.

What did you expect him to say?do you really believe he would come out and say he was leaving?

He wouldn’t have to say anything. But if you are that sure he is leaving after the year, how about we have a little fun with this. If he leaves after this year, I will delete my account. If he stays and plays next year, you delete your account. Put your account where your mouth is. You game?

No offense but you are really naive.Would you turn down millions to play for UK?I know I wouldn't.

Drama queen alert
No, it's called the truth and if you were an actual fan, you would know that thousands of UK fans will spend their last dollar just to watch UK play.

The fanbase is what makes UK the program it has always been. The sooner you understand that, the sooner you will understand what's actually happening here.

If we don't mention the stuff that needs to be said about a situation where we need to say something. Then what does that say about us when stuff that needs to be said that needs to be said doesn't get said but at the same time actually gets said. I think in the end it's not what is said but is not said. That's it.

I get it, but we're just using common sense. This kid is not going to turn down lottery pick money to play college ball.

I'm just reassured to know - thanks to some of you wise ones - that UK is still "bigger than any one player."

We were bigger than Delk in 1996. Didn't need those 7 threes in the title game as a program, but we did need them to win that game.

We were bigger than Davis in 2012. Didn't need those 13 or 14 shots he altered shots as a program, but we did need them to take down Kansas.

We were bigger than Sheppard in 1998. Didn't need those three point curl shots against Stanford to define our program's greatness, but we needed them to advance to play Utah.

Yep, the program's still bigger than any one player.

But is the program bigger than any one player in any one particular game where we need that player to win it all?

This is why you add guys like Sharpe. The program is bigger than him, but not to the degree that our prestige matters much when we're down 67-66 in the Final Four and need a stud to go get a basket with 15 seconds left in the game.
