Shaedon Sharpe eligible for the 2022 NBA draft

I have no idea he is staying. Lol. But the others are absolutely certain he is leaving. So they have absolutely nothing to lose right?
That's fair.

I just think it's a risky game to bet accounts on speculation.

I hope Sharpe plays this year. I have my doubts we'll have him beyond April of this year. I hope I'm wrong, however.

1) I can’t give an answer I feel confident in. This time yesterday, the primary thought was that he wouldn’t even be eligible for the draft, and we were either going to see him play some this year AND next year, or at least just next year. Gun to my head? I’d say he probably doesn’t play, but I don’t feel confident about that.

2) Ultimately Sharpe decides if Sharpes going to play.

3) No, I don’t think it means Cal got “suckered.” Why do you think it’s just so implausible that this recruitment started off like a totally normal one, then the possibility of going straight to the league came up, and Cal took a gamble that an ultra talented player that he’d already invested effort and tike recruiting might opt to play? You can keep acting like there’s just no way that could happen but at some point you should probably explain why, and your explanation shouldn’t be “you just love Cal!!!!!”
You recruit a player to come here and play correct? If I am the coach and I tell Sharpe I am playing him tonight and he's thanks but no thanks, then there is a problem.

Since when do payers decide whether they are going to pay or not? If he is just using UK for NIL money until he gets drafted and has no intention of playing, then Cal got taken and should have known better. Thsi re-class talk came up pretty early in Sharpe's recruitment.

Then word started to come out he might join this season. Any coach that has any sense, would have said, are you coming to play? Are you planning to enter the draft aftetr the season? Not sure why this seems to hard to grasp.

If he said he is coming and doesn't want to play this year, and will consider his options after the season is over regarding the draft, then Cal should have said, young man, we would be glad to have you but if you are not serious about playing this year and are going to leave without playing, I don't think this will work out.

It is a risky game. But that’s what makes life fun. Putting your money or in this case, a person’s account, on the line for something he or she is absolutely certain will happen.

Sharpe is a top 10 pick, for certain, in this upcoming NBA draft barring some wild combine or injury. There’s no way the NBA is going to rule him ineligible because of HIGH SCHOOL CREDITS….Irish come on. This isn’t your first rodeo.

Cal knows it Sharpe knows it we know it. Of course he is leaving and won’t be back next season.

And are you telling me Calipari will allow a top 3-10 pick back to UK for an entire year? This is getting absurd many are all over the place trying to lend credibility to this. We were lied to with at least 90% certainty.

BBN seems interested in this kid.

Ya think it would be a bad idea if Cal never plays the kid?

I have clearly said I have no idea if he stays goes. Absolutely no idea. And if these posters are absolutely sure he isn’t coming back, they aren’t risking anything. Agreed?

minus 1 semester of an unused scholarship what does UK/Cal have to lose taking a chance on him

First of all, Sharpe is a player on UK’s roster. He doesn’t make those kinds of decisions, the coach does. If he refuses to play he should be kicked off the team immediately to set the table. If you come to UK, accept money and scholarship, you will play or be shown the door. What the hell are some of you drinking to think players dictate scholarships and playing time? You are totally drunk on John Calipari. It’s a joke.

second, it might have been a primary thought, but I said weeks ago we do NOT know if Sharpe is eligible for the draft and just the fact that he chose UK over Duke tells me something isn’t right. So some of us are way ahead of you.

You need to evaluate your positions better if you’re going to play this game.

See what? See a Kentucky player being drafted in the top 5 picks and a kid that they all want to aspire to be, the #1 ranked player. Hahahahaha I mean if they come mid year then Yes, NIL deals are wonderful, do you have one? Stay in the lodge, practice with one of the best teams in college and use their facilities, do you use them? Have a front row seat to every game and learn from a Hall of Fame coach, do you do any of that? It helps UK because it DRAWS in other studs, those studs will play, Sharpe's situation is unique. YEP, I can see you clearly don't have any common sense
My goodness. YOu really have no understanding at all as to why this is bad for UK now and in the future.
UK signs the #1 recruit. He comes to UK. Never plays and then leaves for the draft. How great that will be. The next #1 does the same thing. Boy, this will really get things going in the right direction.

Ha. That’s a lot of damn drama.

My wife tells me the boards and my friends discussing sports are the equivalent of her on the phone with 4 different women over the span of 6 hours discussing weekend shopping and England royalty princess Diana whatever shit.

I still can’t figure out women’s obsession with the royal family. They were trying to enslave our asses and your great great great great granpa died making sure it didn’t happen.

purely off topic of course.

I don’t believe he has played yet because he isn’t in game shape yet nor has learned yet what is expected of him on offense and defense. It was clear Saturday he wanted to go in the game Saturday but Cal sat him back down. By all appearances, Sharpe seems like a good kid and has assimilated to the team. It will be interesting to see how his playing time evolves over the coming weeks. Just my opinion of course.

I remember when a few of us said years ago “where does this end”

I remember stating I could see a time when players sit out for no reason and Calipari let’s it happen.

Here we are. And those of us who said it were told were nuts. Now the excuse is “we can’t make them play”. These guys are totally drunk on Calipari and it’s why their positions are literally all over the place. They’ll move where he tells them to move.

He 1000% has to play this year, then.

How many projected top 10 picks have we had return? I'll answer that for you -- zero. If he doesn't play this year, we won't see him play here ever. IMO
Yes, we won't see him play here ever. Apparently he's a lottery pick whether he steps on the court this season or not. So why risk playing? Emoni Bates scored 6 points tonight in a loss to SMU. Why take a chance on having similar games and falling in the draft?

More of the same from Cal. Untrustworthy used car salesman.

It does make you wonder

Even if he plays this year Calipari lied which, doesn’t really matter to me. What matters is if he cannot be trusted to put UK in the best shape possible. And I don’t believe he is. He’s balancing his NBA gatekeeper rep against coach K and Duke and trying to win for Kentucky at the highest level as a secondary goal.

This will continue to get worse if people do not push back hard against this idea. If the fans and administration take a collective shit over this, it will stop. If we go along with it, it will get worse.

That’s my point. It’s worth it to us that nobody accepts this, especially if he doesn’t play this season. He’s leaving, that’s for certain.

Well, @MdWIldcat55 and his brigade of shiny happy people are already circling the wagons in such a way as to declare that if Sharpe doesn't play, it's not because Cal didn't try his best to convince him to play.

In their equation, there is no chance Calipari knew that Sharpe wouldn't play at all. It's an impossible scenario for them, and yet it's the most likely one if in fact Sharpe ends up not playing here.

Also can someone show me where we know for a fact Sharpe wanted to play at some point this season and Calipari said no? Something besides words out of Calipari or Sharpe’s mouth?

MDwildcats55 also said he did not care if Calipari loses, he will support him to be the UK coach regardless. He’s the biggest tool on this board and he’s gone mad because he used to be a legit poster. Calipari has rotted the guys brain.

Well I guess I will have respectfully disagree it is certain. But the good thing is, we will know at the end of year. Don’t have to worry about conjecture- he will either leave or stay. There is no in between. Lol. If he does leave, I will be the first one in line to say that is total bullshit- with one exception. If he plays this year and helps bring home a NCAA title, then I’m good if he rides off into the sunset.

We win the title this season and I don’t care what happens for the rest of Cals tenure barring crazy losing. He won’t be here much longer after that and the negatives won’t be remembered, only his two banners.

Wonder if his people will let Cal play him?
Why would they, if he is projected as a top 5 draft pick based on basically potential, why in the world would you let him play. Suppose he looks bad or some flaw in his game becomes evident, down goes his draft stock. I will be stunned if he every sets foot on a college floor. The only proviso I would add is if he really is so good that he would stun the scouts with what they see that it might elevate him to a top 1 or 2 pick, but why take the risk with literally millions of dollars at stake.
What has UK gained if he leaves without ever playing? Where is the upside of this for UK?
There IS no upside for UK, now the better question is what is the upside for Calipari, sitting in the green room with another lottery pick another notch in his NBA gun. Why can’t people see this. He TOLD us many times THIS is what he lives for now.

I already have a bet with Tankcat on here about UK making the Elite 8 or better. I can’t remember the amount of money we bet but I’m sure he does. Ha.

I think if Calipari lets the guys play to speed for 40 minutes it’s an elite 8 / final four type of team all things considered. Will he let them? I don’t know. I’m not a fan of playing 33 minutes and stopping.

what have they lost?

it is a gamble well worth taking considering all you are wagering is a 1 semester scholarship and the rewards could be huge

look at the resources spent on players that never commit to UK every year
at least with SS we have a chance of him playing maybe this year, maybe this year and next year, maybe just next year

in life, nothing ventured, nothing gained

My friend, this team has played faster than any team since Monk and company. And that’s a good thing. Even with the slow down period it’s better than the trip to the dentist we have been subjected to the past few years.

There is NO chance he'll play and Cal knew it and lied about it.

It's amazing the pretzels you Cal nut huggers will twist yourselves into in order to excuse his failures.

The truth is that if anyone on this board or their son was a lottery pick they would have to take the money and run rather than risk injury . Disappointment for UK fans but when Sharpe came no one thought he could go pro in 2022.
Now he can and no one in their right mind can Fault the kid for making the Only reasonable business decision one in his position can make .
