Rupp Rafters All-Time MLB Draft - Completed

Really a steal at pick 18... most consider him the best pitcher of all time.

Only knock on Walter is he played in a white only league.

Wiki says his fastball topped at out 91 but for that time it might as well been 100.
Mine throws an 89mph sinker that you won't even swing at. I heard that somewhere.

This guy should not be here.... I'll go Stan The Man Musial!

@Cowtown Cat OTC
In his 2000 Baseball Abstract, the father of sabermetrics (Bill James) named Stan one of his ten best baseball players of all time. In one ten year period, James has Musial rated the best player in the NL 8 times, second one time and in the Navy the other time. Stan played all three outfield positions and first base.
Edit to note, James also had Stan rated in the top three defensive outfielders in the NL in his first 2 years. Stan doesn't get enough credit for his defense in his early years.

I've seen Stan as high as 5th in the top 10 lists.

FYI now that we are past two rounds the draft will go to 4 hours to make a pick... as stated in the Original post.

Please check as often as possible.

Oh yea, the all time hits leader is straight trash🤣🤣
He's not trash, far from it, it ain't all or nothing.
But the all-time hits is largely a function of longevity, added in with being a good hitter, and one who played on good teams getting him lots of PA's.

I would have projected Rose in the 3rd-5th round. Gwynn in the 2nd, but could see him going late 1st. Like you said career .340 hitter (well .338) in modern era is impressive. Rose only hit .338+ twice in 24 seasons (.304 career hitter, .310 if he stops chasing the record at 40). So for the modern era no-power pure-hitters, I'd have to rank them Gwynn, Boggs, Rose, Carew (even though stats put Carew ahead of Rose). Not sure where I'd put J.Robinson in there, maybe right after or before Rose. Now I'm not factoring in defense, which I don't think any of these were great, but not bad either. Rose does offer the flexibility 4-5 positions, 2 for Carew.

I’m shocked he’s still available, so I’m taking Steve Carlton who is the second best lefty behind Randy Johnson and 4th all-time on SO list. Since I am a firm believer that pitching is important, I’m going to go ahead and take the best reliever to ever pitch, even though I hate the Yankees, give me Mariano Rivera. Back to @jcrow10

Good picks but don’t you dare hate on the nastiest lefty of all time Sandy Koufax.
